Henri Brasserie Française is a grand restaurant, the likes of which only appear once in a decade. Set in the landmark Birks Building located in the heart of downtown Montreal and connected to the new Hotel Birks Montreal 5-star Hotel, Henri presents a cuisine of today, inspired by the timeless traditions of the grand French brasseries. Our gourmet and comforting dishes created by our executive chef, Romain Abrivard, showcase the finest Canadian and Quebec seasonal products from coast to coast. You will be charmed by the enchanting atmosphere of this spacious and bright Montreal dining room with its 19th century French décor. The owner, Jean Salette, made sure to preserve the finest details of the historical heritage. He surrounded himself with a remarkable team including the renowned restaurateur, Imad Nabwani as General Manager. The service and ambience were first rate. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and took the time to answer our questions related to some of the menu choices. His wine recommendation to match our entree selection was very impressive! Our group of 6 ordered different items from the menu. No one was disappointed. The tournedos rossini and the monkfish were the favorites!

An impressive brasserie dinner with friends from appetizers of headcheese or radish salad through various fish options or frogs legs in butter & garlic to the dessert finale of floating island or a pear mousse or a generous cheese selection. Thank you Simon our indulgent server. Henri is worthy of the high standard of the new hotel.

Excellent restaurant aux allures de brasserie française d’inspiration art-deco. La carte donne très envie et il est difficile de faire son choix. Le serveur a été un élément important à la prise de décision, grâce à ses conseils experts, avec un vocabulaire pointu et une belle connaissance des produits. Quant aux plats, un vrai régal ! Une cuisine très fine, avec une base traditionnelle de la cuisine tricolore mêlée à de l’audace dans le choix des ingrédients. Je recommande fortement !

Menu vraiment trop limité, c’est vraiment dommage pour un aussi beau resto et ce bon service. Je vous suggère soit de changer de menu et enrichir le menu soit changer de chef!

First time in Montréal and as the restaurant was in the Birks hotel we made a good choice.
The food was excellent, the staff was professional and friendly. We enjoyed a nice evening and will recommend the brasserie to friends who will visit your city.

This was our first visit. Very warm atmosphere, esp. for such a vast space. Server, from Breton, was professional, attentive and friendly. Food delicious and well presented. We would have expected it to cost more than we paid. We'll be back!.

The service was a tad abrupt and the 1 hour wait between breakfast and brunch kitchen switch was not ideal but, really nice decor made me think of Paris. Found was impeccable. Will go again for sure

Très beau décor. Très bonne ambiance. Les tables éloignées les unes des autres donc on peut discuter sans avoir à écouter les conversations des autres.
Pour moi la nourriture était correcte sans plus. Mon conjoint a par contre adoré les assiettes qui lui ont été apportées.
Les desserts, eux, fabuleux!
Bonne expérience en général.

C'est un resto haut de gamme et non une simple brasserie ce qui explique les prix élevés. Les plats sont exquis . Accueil chaleureux . Service enthousiaste et souriant ce qui est très très apprécié. A recommander. Nous y retournerons !

Décevant. Je m'attendais à beaucoup plus de ce nouveau restaurant dans ce nouvel hôtel. Le menu du midi très ordinaire et les plats choisis TRÈS ordinaires. Le service était correct et sympathique. Je n'y retournerai probablement pas.

Samedi soir...le chef n’est pas là mais personne n’en fait part. Chef absent injustifiable dans cette catégorie
Son remplaçant stagiaire a très mal préparé mes cuisses de grenouille, cuisson, sauce. Gaspillage
Personne autour pour vérifier mais assez peu de monde
Plateau de fruits de mer à la française beaucoup trop copieux pour entrée et excessivement cher mais bon
Il fallait suggérer de ne pas prendre autre chose ensuite. Gaspillage
Dommage car venions avec invitée de Los Angeles française pour un seul restau à Montréal
Première expérience à midi était meilleure au printemps
Français très déçus
Aurions nous du aller au Roselys ou autre brasserie élégante du plateau ?

Was quite happy to finally try this restaurant.
The place is laid out in a very typical Chic French brasserie style. The noise level was low ( a rarity nowadays).

The food snd service were disapointing.
First, they changed personnel between appetizers and main. The waiter cones in after appetizers to ask whether we would like dessert . Then we wait more than an hour for mains. When they finally arrive, the pork dish ( called côte cochon) is surprisingly dry, and tasteless. The cauliflower side dish is basically a mac & cheese with cauliflower. The appetizers were both bland despite their beautiful preparation (beet salad and poireaux vinaigrette). The dessert ( le Caramel tonka) was original and quite tasty.

Of note, there are no wine options under $65.

We were told there were computer issues which may have impaired service but I stand by my evaluation of the food.

The value , considering the setting and large team, is actually acceptable.

J'ai pris le repas de cavatelli aux crevettes et j'ai été complètement bloquée de l'estomac tout de suite après mon repas. Est-ce la fraîcheur des crevettes? Je ne sais pas, mais clairement quelque chose n'a pas passé.

Le service, par contre, a été excellent.

Superbe restaurant au décor classique mais actuel. Le service et l’accueil ont été chaleureux et professionnel. Nourriture savoureuse et bien présentée. Bon choix de vins au verre. Allez-y!

The only hic was that when we finished the brunch; our empty plates remained on the table. Our waiter left once we paid our bills; no other waiter came to clean the table while we were enjoying our birthday desserts. A part from that issue, we will come again!!!!

Hard to describe a complete dining failure. We arrived and were seated for our reservation. For 10 minutes we were left with only the wine menu. The menu is limited and shockingly expensive. When I ask about specials, we are told that the best way to experience the skill of the kitchen is to try a meal for 2. My friends chose a la carte 2 pricy meals. Before our food comes the waiter lets me know that the kitchen is closing and would we like anything else. Of course not, I say. The beef at 56$ is decent, but the halibut smells like fish from across the room. It suddenly dawns on me that our “meal for 2” is served only as a chunk of duck, and I panickingly call the waiter who confirms my fears. “That’s why I asked you if you wanted anything else.” My fault for not understanding. Fortunately the kitchen makes some fries, some steamed veggies, and some awful gratin of pasta and cauliflower to eat with the ordinary but large slab of duck.
My friends couldn’t finish their meals, the water remained unfilled, and the wine was self served, but there were some good points. My friend loved the space, the staff were great and generous with taking photos, and the service, although disorganized, was friendly and st least one waiter was always eager to direct us to good dining experiences.

This is a beautiful restaurant. Unfortunately in the year it has been in operation ot cannot seem to find its identity. The menu changes constantly resulting in favorite dishes being deleted from their choices. I find it is a fish heavy restaurant for a French Brasserie. I will be going back for drinks but not for the food. It’s unfortunate because the restaurant itself is spectacular.

Very nice meal, the food was delicious. The ambiance could be improved by turning down the level of the of background music and by a better choice of music. The more jazzy music playing in the washrooms was far superior to the 'techno' noise playing in the dining room!

Service was great!

Mentioned on OpenTable I was there for my birthday. It was not acknowledged at the restaurant. And I was there ON the day of my 50th birthday. Kind of a BIG DEAL!

We had three appetizers, two main courses, a glass of wine, and two cocktails. $210. Nothing was great, just good. Expected more.

For such a classic and beautiful venue, the food should be up to par. Disappointing because when we go back to a restaurant, it’s mostly for the quality of the food!
