   Nice find in San Juan. Renzo con Micha was the standout dish with yellowtail marinated in citrus and smoked yellow aji chile sauce, two kinds of corn (steamed large kernel “choclo” corn and crunchy roasted corn), creamy sweet potato, and topped with Korean chile pepper threads. The main dish we ordered (Tallarines en’Callao) was a very small bowl of unmemorable noodles dripping in an overpowering sweet/salty sauce with barely detectable chopped seafood mixed in - hardly worthy of its spot as the most expensive main dish on the menu. Go for the Peruvian ceviches, small plates, and drinks.

   We were looking for a last-minute reservation last night, and was lucky to discover this restaurant. While we lived in the general area for six years and dine out frequently, we never heard of this restaurant. We read the reviews and it looked very interesting so he's decided to try it. We're very glad we did. This is a Peruvian restaurant with some Japanese influences. The restaurant is located in an area of Santorce where we saw a reasonable amount on street parking as well as a pay lot right across the street. You can dine on the front patio or indoors. We opted for indoors as the humidity is starting to set in. The indoors is very nice, and the air-conditioning is very effective. The menu layout is a bit confusing, but with the guidance of Caroline, our very talented waitress, she correctly guided us through the process. The first part of the menu I would describe as the small plates. They are meant to be shared, but the portions are not that small. Because we wanted to try a fair selection of their food, we had ordered four small plates, and share them all. Each was uniquely delicious. Most of them consist of raw fish and seafood but it's not like sushi or sashimi. Its Peruvian. Each one was a work of art and delicious. After four of these small plates, we were definitely full, but we wanted to try one of the main courses which was a duck dish over really good rice. It again was excellent. You can't go wrong going to this restaurant that's for sure. If your experience is like ours, it was excellent from start to finish.

   Creative and delicious peruvian/japanese dishes. Menu was a little complicated but we sorted it out and everyone enjoyed their dishes. The tiraditos which I guess are like ceviches and seem like appetizers on the menu, were quite large and big enough for an entree. The only one I was underwhelmed by was the Viajando a Puno, which didn’t really look like the photo on the website and didn’t taste like much.

   I came in with my boyfriend while we were traveling through San Juan. We were late to our reservation and they still sat us down. We had an amazing experience! Richard and Edwin were phenomenal and very personable. The drinks, the food, the desert, everything was absolutely delicious! I don’t usually write reviews but this place really took us by surprise. The flavor explosion with every bite cannot be described. We will come back and will recommend to everyone.

    Mother & daughter early dinner. Delicioso! Cheviches and tiraditos very good, noodles seafood warm dish not so because way too much sauce and too sweet. Will definitely go back for cold dishes.

    Food was extra yummy. Super fresh. The Renzo con Micha blew our tastebuds away. A spicy yet balanced Ceviche. Nigiri de Camarón was really good too, and Paseo por la Amazona. Cocktail: Espíritu Libre 💯. And the matcha tart is a staple at Sur, once you try it you will know why. Service was great; we sat at the terrace which was really nice, much less noice.

    We were a big group of 11 celebrating my niece’s BDay! Server Sebastian was very caring and patient with our big group. For most of our group was their 1st experience in Sur are were unfamiliar with the menu. Sebastian was very helpful and thorough explaining the options, that was very important to us because of significant allergies within our group. Food arrived and everyone was happy and amaze at the presentation, flavors and creativity. Let’s not forget the amazing crafted cocktails prepared by the barmen Edwin & Richard.     This place was amazing! Such an amazing combinations of flavors, it is like Sushi turned up to 11. Each dish seemed better than the last. Even desert was this cool ice cream that was a combination of sweet and savory. I wished we lived here so we could go back.

    A fusion of Japanese and Peruvian seemed surprising, but we're always game for a new experience. The waitress explained everything and gave great guidance on selections. Everything came with an appealing artistic presentation. The standout was the Tiradito Caliente with squid and scallops. The combination of flavors and textures was a fabulous. We also tried several cocktails. The Espíritu Libre was refreshing without being too sweet. I would definitely return.

    We are on our honeymoon and had our first dinner at Sur Barra Nikkei and it was the best dinner we have ever had! It was quite an experience letting the chef surprise us with 3 appetizers and 2 entrees to share! Truly unforgettable!

    Amazing food with incredible choices! Very creative and delicious. Most highly recommended. The server was very helpful in describing the dishes. Ambience is not very upscale and music was loud i trial my, but they turned it down when we asked.

    AMAZING- highly recommend. Went here last night for our first dinner in PR. My husband and I shared 4 appetizers and one main following the chefs recommended courses and basically just got what they told us to eat. Similar to omasake. Ricardo was amazing, the food was amazing. We’ll probably go back before we leave. PS. I’m gluten free and there were plenty of options.

    We dined at SUR Barra Nikkei while on vacation in San Juan. The experience far exceeded our expectations. The food was interesting, creative and delicious. The menu is unique and highlights Peruvian Cuisine with a Japanese twist. The paseo por La Amazona and the Lomo Saltado are must tries. The cocktails were also interesting and tasted great. The server was knowledgeable, friendly and took the time to explain the art and influence behind each dish as they were served. Overall it was an excellent experience and this is a can’t miss dining spot if you come to San Juan.

    Outstanding! What a delightful evening! We ordered cocktails, and then left the ordering up to our knowledge guy behind the bar, Richard. He led us on a delicious culinary journey from beginning to end. Sweet potato threads topped with cilantro rice and spicy tuna got us off to a great start. An interesting cold mushroom dish, followed by ceviche with corn two ways with sweet potato, then quinoa crusted mahi mahi. Not to be outdone was the dessert! A matcha tart served with black and white sesame ice creams paired with a Japanese matcha IPA. Great combination of sweet and salty. A great foodie destination!

    Japanese Peruvian cuisine is a favorite of ours, but this is really at another level in creativity and spicing. Wonderful to have it at a casual neighborhood place, dedicated to the food and drinks in a committed but unpretentious way. We’ll be back!
