Hogtown Smoke on Colborne St.
Southern-style barbecue dripping with flavour rules at this downtown smoke house, the standstill evolution of its wildly popular barbecue-on-wheels and beaches predecessor.
Here, Pit Master Scott ' Hogfather' Fraser & Executive Chef Sean Simons take enthusiastic customers on a ride through the expansive wonders of smoking, grilling and saucing with stops along the way at pulled pork, brisket and baby back ribs meaty enough to shame a caveman. The addition if a custom built wood fire grill behind glass expands their famous menu to include steaks, seafood and fish.
Everything is cooked a long time here, but your patience pays off in spades. Guests dig in with both hands, their collection of spent napkins growing in direct relation to their enjoyment of the meal.
Amazing brisket and smoked meets
Table was given to another who did not have a reservation, bills where mixed up with another table. When we notified the manager, nothing was rectified and panic ensued. Not one to complain usually but the service was terrible and managers/owner were unable to resolve anything. Food quality was very good and the chef came to ensure we had the right food. From the time the first bill was given to when we were able to leave was 45 mins. Unacceptable and not worth the stress. Food was good though so maybe take out is the better option.
Been here a few years ago and it was a great experience. It’s gone downhill since. Very loud, service was sub par, and food was so-so.
We had a great time. We enjoyed our experience and our food.
The food was good! Especially the mac & cheese which had a delicious smoky flavour. Their BBQ sauces were also delicious.
5/5. The food was fantastic and there was a great selection of beers. Great service. Would definitely recommend to family and friends and will certainly return.
15 minutes before we were greeted by our server
15 minutes to be brought two cans of beer
30 minutes for our food to be brought out
Witnessed multiple tables be sat only to walk out after not being greeted for 10-15 minutes.
Food was good but service was terrible.
Our server was excellent and was very accommodating to our baby - he played with her and changed the tv channel to a kids channel (from sports)!
Great wings. Service was good and
No complaints . Would go again for sure.
Food was great and prices for downtown Toronto were great. However for only having two tables of people the service was very slow, waiter only came to our table once and it took a long time to get the bill.
The decor and vibe are all BBQ joint. The service is pretty good and we were sat quickly and orders taken promptly. The food is good, not the best BBQ I’ve had in Toronto, but definitely delicious. The pricing however is a little steep for what it is. There is MUCH better value at other BBQ joints in the city.
Decent looking restaurant, all the elements you would expect of a smokehouse. Not the most extensive menu, but the side ribs and brisket were good (back ribs were the special of the night and they had run out of them by 6:30 pm).
Service was terrible. Slow, confused and little knowledge of the menu or drinks available. Mass confusion at payment time.
Lots of great BBQ in this city to choose from, Won't be going back to Hogtown Smoke though.
Great place for a heavy meal of meat, that makes you want to nap after. Thankfully, I had a server who was familiar with the ketogenic diet, and was able to point out everything that was safe for me to eat like; brisket, pulled pork, and ribs without sauce. Every bite was full of flavour that I could only dream of in my everyday life.
OK food, very friendly, informal service. Restaurant very quiet, though we did visit on a Sunday evening.
Ambiance and options were good and service was fine, though having to ask more than once for water for the table even after having been served our meals was a bit annoying. Portions were large, but quality was a bit disappointing. Poutine was uncommonly lacking seasoning and pulled pork was dry. Chips were very good.
Saw this restaurant on the TV show “ You gotta eat here !” After eating there , I agree ! Great food at a reasonable price. Generous portions and superb BBQ/ Smoke house taste ! I will definitely be back and I’m bringing more friends with me !
Excellent Food - great service! Perfect casual Lunch experience! one of my favourites in the city!
Great smoked BBQ ribs!
When I visited they had a mouse problem in the dining room and kitchen, I really like this place I hope they have addressed the issue.
Good food excellent service good ambience. Craig was amazing. The wings are some of the best I've ever had.
Carne molto buona, ottime salse, affumicatura perfetta consigliato
We were the only ones there but the food was awesome
Ottimo cibo americano Tex mex. personale cordiale
Shockingly bad. The server appeared to be stoned - I am not kidding. She ignored my party for 20 minutes even though the restaurant was empty, and in spite of my repeatedly making eye contact with her. I had to go walk over to her and ask if she would take our order. She then competely forgot about the order of one of our party bringing it a doggie bag as we were preparing to leave. Then - she ACTUAL|L|Y CHARGE|D ME for the forgotten meal. I just paid it as I was in hurry to get back to work (we were massively late at this point) and, given she was high as a kite and no manager was visible, it would take forever to get this take care of... so in disgust I paid. DO NO|T GO HERE!!!
Service was ok. Food was better.
First time at the Hogtown Smoke. Got there on a Sunday. Seated ourselves. Waitress was very friendly but looked like there is only her working. She was running around trying to do almost everything. Ordered drinks and food as soon as she came by.
Drinks came when the food came.
Food was pretty good. Brisket was excellent.
There was another guy working but he was very busy with takeout and UberEats etc.
Waited a long time to get the bill and finally just went up and caught the guy to pay instead of waiting longer for the actual bill to arrive at the table.
Overall experience was ok. But would highly consider takeout instead of eating in
Brisket (in sandwich) was excellent. My sides were chips and I ordered an extra coleslaw. Chips fair; coleslaw was crisp but dressing was tasteless. Dining partner had fries which were very good.
A REAL Smoke House! The food had great flavour, service was exceptional! My 'dark and stormy' had just the right amount of lime. Only complaint was the beer was flat. Maybe time to clean the lines?
The BBQ was awesome - get the brisket, it's tops. I was disappointed they were out of the short rib but I'll definitely try it next time. The service was excellent: attentive and friendly without being overbearing.
Great food, for the price it was a good meal. Service was also good
I would say appetizers are a bit overpriced for what you get. $18 for 4 jalapeño poppers that are not all the same size. Side ribs were awesome though. Mac & Cheese was okay. Wouldn’t order again. Overall food was good though.
Great smoked pork and cornbread!!
I’ve been here before but this time ribs were burnt and really dry
Was fantastic to try something new and experience such great BBQ. The restaurant was dead at the time but the food was amazing.
Relaxed atmosphere. You notice right away the staff enjoys working there. Good BBQ food, with a nice smoke flavor.
We came to this location for it's "bucket of chicken" which was recommended by Glen(part owner). Previously, when we came at 6:30pm it was sold out. He told us due to the method used in making the chicken they can only make a certain number of buckets and we have to come REALLY, REALLY EARLY. So there we were on Friday, June 28, at 3:30pm. The place was DEAD except for 5 other people. The person who served us said "You could've just called it in because we would've put a bucket on the side for you." The place was so dead that the bartender/wait staff kept our friend entertained the entire time because she had nothing to do. The bucket of chicken cost $35.00 with 2 sides, and it was nothing special. I thought we could taste a HUGE difference between KFC, Popeye's and Hogtown. Not really. It was a different coating but not anymore moisture than the others. As well..... Glen promised that if we didn't think it was the best chicken we've ever tasted, our beers would be on him. Well.... that didn't happened either. So overall, we wouldn't rush back for the chicken but maybe the other smoked foods on the menu.
BBQ brisket was great, baby back ribs also great,
Corn bread was not available
Chips were better than the fries!
My son and I really enjoyed Hogtown Smoke. The food was delicious, the service was excellent and the value was great, especially on Rib night. Very good smoke ring in the brisket and it was so tender. They use old school smoking methods and it shows. It’s a must try for anyone in Toronto!!
Awesome experience. Wait staff was super friendly and helped out a lot with the menu. Ambience was really cool and unique. Food was incredible and perfect for sharing.
