We were a party of 4. The 2 who ordered the salmon were very happy with their meal. One had the short rib sandwich which was OK. The 4th had the flat iron steak which was a big disappointment. 5 slices of steak with a sprinkle of lettuce for $30. They were quick to tell us that there will be a new chef and new menu next week. Still deciding if it is worth a trip back to see the results.
I just want to say that the staff was very accommodating, quick & friendly. I had a filet mignon and it was delicious. The music was good. It was a very energetic crowd. Overall the experience was great. I would come with my friends again and would recommend the Horseneck to others. Thank you,
Great food, great vibe. Live acoustic music on Saturdays is amazing. Waitstaff is very attentive and friendly. Love coming here—will come back many more times!
Birthday celebration. I reserved a high top by the bar confirmed it twice the day of. when we arrived the hostess told us there was a private party and they could only give us a booth. We sat at the bar instead. The high tops were r even occupied and we were there til closing. We go here often love the food music and the bartenders are the best!!!
I have been going to Horseneck since it reopened after it's original incarnation as Desi's. For the longest time felt that both the service and the value were outstanding, but the last few times I have been there, the4 prices seemed to have jumped exponentially, and the service was ok, but clearly the young server did not know her food, or her menu.....
Our first visit to the tavern did not disappoint. The salads we had were outstanding and our appetizers served as our entrees. More than generous. It’s a little pricey but high quality and very attentive service. The patio was delightful and not very noisy.
We thought our waitress Sarah was exceptional.. I’ll be back. Susan Haberman
I found the food a bit high priced for the quality. There was no side dish plated with the main course and the main was $30. Then the side cost $8. Nearly $40 for a smallish portion of 2 4" long parcels of sole stuffed with crabmeat alone on a plate with butter sauce---and a dish of mashed potatoes on the side. Too much money as the service was not top-notch and the food itself was unremarkable.
I was underwhelmed
Did not think the food was very good - ordered a cheddar/bacon burger and for $18.00 was not very good. I asked for medium rare and it came through well done and the bacon was burnt crispy. Not a
The atmosphere is very nice and drink prices are reasonable, the service was excellent - nice pleasant folks. Would not recommend !!!!
I drive past this place a lot and decided to give it a try. Not sorry we did. Service was excellent. The place was just about empty being a Saturday in the summer, still we were greeted by very friendly staff. I could see this place being busy on a weekend at any given time. Our drinks were really good but pricey. We started with the lollipop chicken which came crispy and with 2 dipping sauces and blue cheese with celery. We were gonna just have burgers but saw the special menu and changed our minds. My wife ordered the crab cake entree special and gave it a 7 out 10 stars, there were 2 cakes and a salad, she enjoyed the salad and said the crab cakes were better than most bars but not as good as 5 star steak and seafood houses. I had the lamb special which had 3 pieces of lamb cooked perfectly, mashed potatoes and carrots. When I worked at a catering hall I used to man the carving station and do the lamb and looked forward to that but that has been about 20 years ago. It had been awhile since I had lamb so my first bite was WOW. We will go back for those burgers.
Overpriced. Apple strudel best part of meal one was enough to share with four people. Ashley new server very efficient friendly and a pleasure to have serve ud
Interesting menu, not loud, some music by the bar. We arrived just before Happy Hour ended, so we took advantage of their happy hour and appetizers.
Always have good food and great service!
Just an overall very nice spot to get a couple of drinks and a good meal. Pretty place that feels both sophisticated and comfortable. Atmosphere is somehow good for both a big group and couples. Food is not necessarily inventive in a foodie sort of way and won't blow you away but menu offers good variety and nearly everything is good to very good. Good choice of cocktails and wine as well. Service is extremely friendly and customer focused.
Wonderful meal. Salmon dish was my choice. Beautifully pan-roasted. I love the venue but the lighting is a bit too subdued and it is loud when the bar is full. Given the quality of the food, those concerns can be discounted. Highly recommend.
Food was above average. The one complaint is that we ordered 3 small plates and one entree to split and all of it came out at the same time which made us rush to eat all of the hot stuff before it came out.
Drinks were great. Enjoyed the flights of wine and bourbon. And the acoustic musician who came on at 9pm was great.
Love the music on Thursday -Saturday nights.
This place is tucked away in a small shopping center in Caldwell, NJ. If you drive up Bloomfield Ave. heading towards Verona you could easily miss it. You don't want to though. The food was excellent. Find it!
Nice atmosphere, good service, good food. Fresh octopus, mussels and the crab cakes were excellent. Not a place for casual conversation, very loud and live music, but pleasant just the same. We’ll definitely be back.
Horseneck Tavern is relaxed, comfortable and the food is very good. Both the fried burrata and the grilled octopus are excellent appetizers, amidst other, more standard choices (which are also good). Among the main courses, you can't go wrong with the burgers or the steaks, but I prefer to try some of the specials, which vary from day to day.
The dining area is quiet, except of course when there is live music in the bar (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights).
Celebrating a birthday. Great food & service. Highly recommend. We will be back.
Perfect spot to relax with friends; very attentive staff without overdoing it. Bar area very attractive, but the booths allow you to settle in. Portions are large, so not hard to share: the Pork Slider app and a Salad would satisfy two. Excellent onion rings! Menu has something to suit everyone's taste. No issue with Parking and handy for Montclair, Verona, Caldwell, Essex Fells, North Caldwell, and West Caldwell. Sometimes you just want to chill with no pretension. This is the spot.
Had a very nice birthday dinner here. Great as always
We really enjoy our food and the service (Ava) was excellent!
Great dining experience, staff was excellent. Food was good, a bit pricey, however all fresh and nice small option menu. A la carte menu was a bit confusing since main course came out with side and still ordered a side. Went for Valentine's Day dinner, was nice to "dine" and not be rushed. Chef came out and asked how everything was, which was nice. DH had the Lamb and really enjoyed it, I had roasted chicken, it was chicken (should have ordered the Sole). Drinks were good and dessert was excellent!
Lovely dinner to celebrate a 40th birthday with family. They were even able to make two little boys happy with a Bavarian Pretzel from the appetizers, a children’s menu & delicious warm cookies for dessert.
Lovely spot/great food/wonderful service. The portions are large, so be mindful of what you order. A salad and another appetizer (pork sliders) was too much for me. Consider sharing! Our group had a nice cross section of the menu: risotto with shrimp was excellent; the onion soup was a meal by itself; the clams and pasta were excellent. Everyone was delighted. We will be back.
Great atmosphere, live music at the bar. Food was good, service was great
Food and service were good. Drinks are pricey and sides are a la carte. It was more expensive than I thought it would be.
Good place. Food was very good. Service was good also. They need to add more tavern food to menu.
We were a party of 6 on NYE and had a 9:00 reservation we all had a drink at the bar before we were seated Trevor the bartender was his usual friendly self. Our waiter was attentive and courteous and accommodated the special request made regarding the one menu item we ordered. The other young person helping him made sure our water glasses were never empty but when it came to clearing the plates from the appetizers he was acting like a madman rushing and taking plates with food still on them without asking if we were finished. At one point my wife told him to slow down. This was following him spilling salad dressing on the arm of one of the people seated at our table. There were special offerings for NYE and we all ordered from that menu. Four of the six ordered the Osso Bucco which was good. The taglitelle with lobster, lump crab, shrimp and caviar had generous amounts of each and was throughly enjoyed. The last entree (special order) was sent back and graciously taken off the bill. We had desserts and coffee too. The affogato was made table side and when it was passed over to the table our waiter spilled it on one of the diners. Following dessert we were engaged in a conversation with someone from the kitchen who inquired about our experience and once we explained what happened he gave all three couples a 10% card for our next meal. We love this place and come often for happy hour and were there for NYE 2018 but this year was a much different experience which could be the result of the recent change in management. The live entertainment added to the evening's experience but could have been better. All things considered NYE 2018 was by far better than NYE 2019. We will go back soon with our 10% cards and see if things improve.
Excellent service! Great food! Very nice atmosphere! The staff that tended to us on NYE was friendly and attentive....excellent! Every time I go there, I’m always pleased with everything. Looking forward to my next visit.
Very happy to have Horseneck Tavern available in our area. We were happily surprised by the overall high quality of food, service, decor and ambiance. They have a covered patio for warmer times and a nice bar with good TV viewing to watch sports, while also have a quieter and upscale dining room. Food is eclectic with a wide choice and specials so that eaters with varying tastes and sizes of appetite will all find themselves satisfied.
The service at The Horseneck Tavern is great. When we had a couple of questions on the drinks, the head bartender came over personally to understand the question and help us out. Just typical of the type of service to expect. The entertainment was also great fun!
This is the fourth time I've visited the restaurant. The food is always good, and the service is great. It's a very attractive restaurant. My one concern is that the prices are a bit steep compared with local competition. Horseneck also had a great private recipe beer, and our waiter informed us it's no longer available. That's too bad as it was one of the best anywhere, in my opinion. Please bring it back!
Meal was sent out without everyone's entree. Side dishes came out with appetizers and they forgot one entree altogether. Oh, and couldn't get a drink refill for 30 minutes. Not good. Won't be back.
First time and very happy to have a high quality restaurant open in my neighborhood. Food, service and ambiance were all very good. I’ll repeat and they also have brunch. Recommended
Always a great time. Live music on Friday evening outstanding
Food, cocktails and service are lacking. Hell they didn’t even have enough menus printed for a half full restaurant.
