   Overall food was really good. Ambience wasn’t what we envisioned for a Maui restaurant. Area was a little run down and underwhelming. Service was adequate. I’d go back for the food but the rest of it would keep me from doing that given all the other options out there.

   My wife and I thought we would try it out as we are avid Mexican food fans and looking for something casual. Overall it seemed to have good reviews. We really wanted to love this place but the food is seriously not great and the menu is surprisingly limited. Started with chips, guacamole and salsa. Chips were ridiculously over fried and a good portion burnt. Guacamole was okay but the salsa was simply bad. Obvious they use Tabasco or Cholula in their salsa as the taste was unmistakable and overall was without substance at all. I ordered the 5 star enchiladas, as called out on their menu. If these were 5 stars it was Out of 20. 3 corn tortillas with chicken inside and golden over like a taco and covered with a bland verde sauce and cream. It was soupy looking and just plain flavorless. Service was really good however and very prompt and super friendly. Other than this, a very poor experience. Sorry guys, I was just hoping for something more.

   It's not fancy - but we had a delicious, memorable evening at Hungry Coyote! It's in a strip mall near the Lahaina outlet stores. Very casual! Servers were friendly and attentive. My wife has a sensitivity to onions and garlic - they made her a version of their fresh catch Mahi Mahi special that was perfect. Plus guacamole with onion salsa on the side so she and I could both enjoy! You bring your own alcohol - I brought tequila and they mixed me 2 perfect tropical margaritas. We took a cheesecake home with us for dessert. Our dinners were among the best we've had in Lahaina and we'll be back for sure!

   This was a gamble that paid off! The food was great. Everything was made in-house and you could tell. They only lost a start because we were charged for an additional hot sauce that came when our meal was ending. Overall it was really good value. I had the burrito bowl with fish and my husband had a burrito with fish. My bowl had great presentation!

   We went back for a second time. Booked through open table and was supposed to receive a free appetizer, the restaurant didn't understand or redeem it. That was fine. I guess the second night we came the ladies were having a ruff night, because the service the first time was amazing. The food was so tasty and we were really impressed.

   This was a huge disappointment!! We read positive reviews, but the food was just miserable! Almost inedible! The decor was terrible also, it did not seem Mexican—disjointed. We had reservations for our family of 8 for another night and cancelled it. It’s surprising that Open Table would include this place in its list for Maui reservations. You could eat outside next to a strip mall parking lot. The menu was quite limited and it almost seemed like the food was made elsewhere and heated up. Don’t waste your time or $$!

Our menu states please tell us if you have any issues or concerns so we can correct it. Your family ate all their food and never once said there were issues when asked by the server and manager. We strive as a small, family owned business, to serve fresh local HAWAIIAN/MEXICAN infusion, as our web page and menu state. We are a local eatery, not fine dinning and YES Karen we make all food from scratch in house.

    We were burned out by some of the expensive places on the water and this had a lot of 4-5 reviews so we decided to go. We saw that it was BYOB so we stopped to get some tequila on the way for margaritas. As soon as we pulled up, we were disappointed. It isn’t on Front St so we thought it would be a little quieter, but it was in an old rundown strip mall. Our server was very nice, but there were some mixups on our orders and the food was just ok. When we saw the bill we were shocked! Given we were just paying for the mix for the margaritas and two of our kids had kids meals, it was more expensive that any other place we had dined (including popular places on the water!). My husband had a salad w fish, my son and I had tacos, two kids had quesadillas, plus one margarita each adult and 3 kids lemonades plus chips and guacamole and salsa. We added up our bill and it should never have been that high. We brought it up to the server and she made some adjustments but we still don’t know how we were charged what we were charged. If it were half the price, we might have been ok with it being a so-so place. We would never go back.

Once disappointed, it is difficult to turn tourists around. Anthony Bourdain sat on stumps and ate in the direst of situations, but found the joy in the people and their food.     Ok, honest review. This is a hole in the wall GEM! If you have spent any time in Mexico, not tourist Mexico but real Mexico, this is the food you have eaten. The authenticity just pours off the plate. Enchiladas with flavors that are so spot on you think you are in Chihuahua. The Barria Tacos are Mexican street food at its best. Oh, and the corn! Perfect amount of acid to highlight the freshness. This place is not fancy, it is not tourist, it is just good. Bring your own Tequila and they will knock you out some great Margaritas. Have fun!     This place is surprisingly small (8-10 tables) but the food is amazing. Because it’s so small, the menu is limited but what they give you is SO GOOD! Blue corn tortillas either enchilada or taco style, filled with fresh ingredients and topped (on the side) with this VOLCANO HOT sauce. The had a local musician strumming her guitar and singing gently which just added to the ambiance.

    Restaurant is in a run down strip mall. Music is really LOUD! Food was mediocre at best. Waitress was nice. They charge for chips and salsa. Definitely not worth the price. I don’t know how they have 4-5 star reviews.

Our locally sourced food is made with love and we get it, not everyone understands Mexican infusion. Everyone charges for chips and salsa, but we give free refills. Our prices are based on costs for Maui and comparable to any other restaurant or local eatery. Our guests give 5-stars because if they have an issue they tell us and let us fix it, not slam us anonymously on social media.

    This place had a lot of good reviews so we were excited to try it. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. The food itself was pretty good. I had the fresh catch tacos (mahi mahi) and they were very good. Everyone else had the beef tacos and they were fine but not great. That said the ambiance was nonexistent (inside had a strange smell - like cats maybe?) so we sat outside which was basically sitting in a dingy parking lot and our table was right next to an alley. Service started our friendly but after she took our dinner order we never saw her again. We read the reviews so brought our own tequila and they made us margaritas (ok, a little on the sweet side) but never offered us another one. The person who brought our food was not our server and took no notice of our empty glasses. After everyone had finished our meals we waited 20 minutes for someone to bring us our check (we saw other tables being brought checked but not ours). Finally I went inside to pay and they seemed very frazzled and kind of annoyed. For 2 adults and 3 kids (4 of us had the 3 taco entree at $28 a pop and my younger son had the “kids meal” which was one tiny taco, 2 margaritas using tequila we brought ourselves and 3 cans of Pepsi) our bill was almost $200 with tip, which seems kind of crazy for what it was.

Our Chef was making BEANS, they have a gaseous effect. You choose to use Venmo, but did not know how. We are never frazzled with guests, happy to assist.     The seafood paella was full of seafood and delicious rice and sauce. My husband had the mahi-mahi special and it was tender and delicious. The Verde sauce was very good.

    i've been to this restaurant many times. it's been great & reasonably priced. my visit with my grandson yesterday was disappointing. the guacamole was salty. the ceviche i've ordered before is usually delicious. i could not find any fish in it at all. i asked the waitress who brought it to the attention of the chef/owner. the waitress returned to tell me that whoever cut up the fish cut it so small you couldn't see it. they asked if i wanted something else i declined. they did not take it off my bill, i would have been happy if they added fish to the dish but that wasn't offered. sad i like this place.

We most often use fresh Mahi, but the fishermen have only caught Ahi. It is typically cut smaller and there was plenty of fish in our mix. I was not there during your visit, but would have happily taken off any entree you were not pleased with. Please come back, as my guest, and I will make whichever dish you would like to try. I will use comments as a training guide our kitchen staff and teenage program.

    We loved our meal at Hungry Coyote. Authentic Mexican food was enjoyed by all 4 of us. The service was outstanding and it is a small but comfy spot. Just a heads up that there isn’t a liquor license so there isn’t alcohol served but if you bring your own tequila, they’ll make a margarita for you.

    Funky little place in a strip mall that we really enjoyed. Staff was VERY friendly and efficient. Food was delicious and very reasonable. Limited menu so not your standard Mexican menu but both our meals (cerviche and coyote bowl) were outstanding. One important note : no liquor license so it’s BYOB with no corkage (they charge a small amount if they mix a margarita with your tequila); there is a liquor store in the mall you can use and they’ll refrigerate it for you. A nice change from the Front Street places.

    People were super. Food was below average. Feel bad leaving this review. I hope the owners and management see it though. Advice to their management, please go to other reputable Mexican restaurants, eat the food there and compare to your own. I have had better food from food trucks in the past and would expect more for the price we paid. Even worse is the owners defensive response below. I understand negative reviews hurt your business but please improve the quality to improve your reviews.

We are friends with our competition. They come here on their date nights and enjoy our food. Hungry Coyote receives many 5-stars each week and we are often told "This is the best meal I have had our entire stay" Chef's apron says "Your opinion was not in the recipe" rightfully so!

    I thought the food was very fresh. It was more expensive than I expected. Most Mexican restaurants do complementary chips and salsa, but this one does not. One of our guests ordered a steak and he hated it. It was prepared sous vide I believe and he was not expecting that preparation and thought it was horrible. My husband tasted it and thought it was fine. The people who work there are fabulous. So nice, so accommodating, kind because they hire people with disabilities.
