YEAH WE KNOW THE MARGARITA, IT WAS INVENTED HERE! For 125 years, Hussong's Cantina in Ensenada has been known as, "The bar that built a town" frequented by gunslingers, movie stars, revolutionaries and it has even seen a horse or two darken its doorways. The Margarita was invented at Hussongs back in October, 1941 by bartender Don Carlos Orozco. He concocted the perfect mixture of equal parts Tequila, Damiana, and lime, served over ice in a salt-rimmed glass for Margarita Henkel, daughter of the German Ambassador to Mexico. Not too many people know that, but it's the truth. The story is on record in the Ensenada Historical Society and was verified by Margarita Henkel herself a few years back. The Hussong's family still owns and manages the cantina in Ensenada and in keeping with the Hussong's tradition, we serve The Original Margarita hand-shaken with only fresh ingredients.

Took an incredibly long time just to get our food order taken, drinks were given to us wrong. And I also asked for a dessert to be brought out for a birthday celebration and for it to be added to the bill and that never happened. Mediocre at best. Most likely will not return.

For the price, it's definitely worth it as I think they are on the cheaper side for dining out compared to some other local Mexican restaurants. Portions were pretty standard size, just enough to eat there and not much for leftovers. Overall I'd definitely go again !

Food and service was exceptional for our group of 10 that were there to celebrate my birthday. I loved having so many delicious vegan options to choose from. I even got to eat cake at my Birthday party. Not something I get often unless I make it vegan myself 😃 Your chips and salsas are the best in town. Highly recommended!

I rate this place high because of the vegan offerings and the food tastes great! That being said, I messaged the restaurant and put ample notes in my reservation. Mostly, they ignored them. They did message me back, but mostly to tell me outdoor was unheated, and that an onion allergy is hard since most their food has or adds onions to the food. I asked if there would at least things he could order sans onions at least, and they could accommodate that. Nothing said to the birthday girl, allergens having to be specifically asked about even though I had already listed them all. I honestly felt the point of a special reservation was for the attention to detail regarding the meal, but I don’t understand what the point is when it’s ignored. This is still a lovely restaurant, and I would recommend it, but more as a casual thing where you don’t need to consider reservations.

To me this is the best tasting Mexican food. The reason why is because it has the origins taste of all Mexican food but perfectly puts their own twist on it. Therefore, it doesn't taste like you've had the same Mexican food at all places like I feel like sometimes Mexican food has because like there's salsa is sweet but smoky, the red sauce is like also tangy but smokey. And then they're green sauce has this beautiful Tang.

The chips that come with the salsa tasted generic and stale. I ordered my salad with the ceasar dressing but came with the jalapeño vinegrett. I cannot eat spicy. The chimichunga was to come with sour cream and only has a little drizzled over the top. More would have been extra. The extra cost of the carne asada fajitas was more than stated in the take out menu and when pointed out, was not compensated. Our waitress was not very friendly

It’s in a busy shopping center so parking may take a minute. Service was good- had a neighborhood feel to it. Not as large inside as I imagined. A few high tables, regular tables and some outdoor seating. Went for taco Tuesday and just missed happy hour but you can get taco Tuesday menu for an extra hour after happy hour ends. The shrimp taco was my favorite. I love they have pitchers of margaritas. We tried regular and it was just okay. I would definitely go back and try other food items and different margaritas.
