A fancier version of a Greek restaurant, but a nice surprise
We ordered sea bass baked under the sea salt. That's our favorite whenever we go there.
The minute we walked in, it already felt like We were back in Greece. The music, the restaurant staff, the ambiance was so inviting. It was perfect!!! The food was absolutely delicious, very flavorful. The restaurant really stuck to authentic Mediterranean cuisine. Thank you for a wonderful dinner. We’ll be back again soon.
Went here for a birthday celebration. The service was incredibly slow or non existent. Could not find our waitress all evening and finally made a comment. It was frustrating and was really looking forward to having dinner here.
Great experience, great food & service.
Great service snd delicious food in a stunning setting evocative of Greece.
Hydra is a beautiful restaurant with a great vibe! Our drinks were on point and my dessert was wonderful! But unfortunately our main dishes fell short. I ordered the Lamb Loin. I regret not taking a photo of my food (I never do this!) I didn't realize my dish was off until it was too late. I received a dish with a pile of meat on a bed of french fries with about a tablespoon of sauce and no graviera cheese to be seen. The first few pieces of the lamb loin was stringy and tough. My meal was very bland and tasteless. My husband ordered the Lamb Chops and it looked beautiful. His side dishes were very flavourful but his lamb chops were quite fatty. He ended up cutting off quite a bit of fat. Our server checked on us late into our meal and I felt it was too late to send mine back. And we were hungry! Overall, our meals were not worth what we paid and were were extremely disappointed. Unfortunately, we will not be returning to this restaurant.
Still quiet with Covid, but the food was excellent and the service was very strong.
We had such a fantastic time, the food was outstanding. Highly recommend the variety of dips for app, baked fresh fish and the Bougatsa for dessert- oh Mama!! the Bougatsa is something else. Steve Bath was our server and he was such a professional, thank you for a great time!
Pretty good. Oysters were mediocre. Dip was good, lamb was good, Baklava was excellent
The first impression at Hydra fell short of basic expectations. The hostess couldn't find our reservation, and we didn't have anything other than water to drink for a half hour, after trying to order two different bottles of wine that were both out of stock. The bar manager and our server made it right, but the floor manager was rude and argumentative. If not for them and the amazing food, we wouldn't consider going back.
Service was disorganized. Hostess seemed new, confusion on where we would be seated even when the restaurant was 90% empty. Took very long to get the bill and more confusion when we asked for the machine to pay with card, the servers had to go back got the kitchen to ask for help but didn’t come back with the machine. Food and cocktails were average. Ambience was nice though.
Overall it was a very disappointing experience. Service was poor, at best. There was confusion when we showed up for our reservation and where we would be seated, with the host running back to the kitchen twice to sort that out.
Then we ordered some cocktails, one which was recommended, and they both were not worth drinking.
When it came to the food, on three separate occasions the server came back saying they ran out of the item at lunch.
We were eating dinner so if you ran out at lunch, why wasn’t that communicated before we ordered it for dinner?
Then when we asked for recommendations after we discovered that we couldn’t get our original items, the server recommended the highest priced items on the menu. Not sure if this was a coincidence or planned? I don’t mind paying top dollar for an excellent meal, but it felt like we were being treated like tourists.
Another item was the way the grilled whole fish dish was served. During the Covid times we are living in, the restaurant thinks it’s a good idea to have a server debone the fish table side without a mask! We don’t want someone breathing all over our food just before we are going to eat it! That really killed our appetite.
On that note, none of the staff were wearing masks, I know it’s optional, but the majority of restaurants we are going to are making staff wear them.
I would be hard pressed to recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food taste, drink flavors and service were
subpar. Very poor experience.
Great happy hour!! Oysters were excellent. Good service. Nice decor.
We really enjoyed the food and service. The tsaziki was amazing!
Definitely the most elevated Greek food in Vancouver
It was much better than I expected. Food was amazing. Service was good too.
Awesome awesome food. Cool decor. Loved it
Sides and appies were good. Service was slow for an empty place and disorganized. Fish was rubbery and salty beyond the point where it was edible - had to be sent back. 3 people were left without a main due to the major screw up with the fish, and we felt the restaurant didn't compensate fairly for how major their screw up was.
Go here if you want to pay fine dining prices for amateur performance.
Very good Mediterranean grilled fish. Nice sides, excellent service. Never been here before and would definitely go back.
Great service and food
Everything was wonderful! The service was empicable, the entrees were art! It was all fabulous.
Thank you so much for a wonderful evening! We will definitely be back!
This is one of the best restaurants in Vancouver. Our server, Zoran, and the GM, Cindy, were so wonderful. The food was also so delicious. Hands down the best baklava I’ve had in Canada. 100% will be coming back and having this restaurant as our regular spot.
Amazing oysters and really nice ambience!
The food was absolutely delicious and the service was over the top. Zoran and our waitress were very professional and made our dining experience very enjoyable. We will be recommending Hydra to all our family and friends.
Beautiful ambience with exceptional service and delicious food! The crystal stemware was gorgeous and made our drinks even more special. Even item we ordered was beyond yummy. We shared the signature lamb platter and it was more than enough for 4 of us, and we came home with leftovers. The souvlaki was also amazing.
It was our first dine-in experience since covid protocols were lifted and I would highly recommend this place.
A night to be remembered! The restaurant itself is gorgeous. The food matched the aesthetics. We had tzatziki, spanakopita, tomato salad and lamb chops. Every dish was delicious. Our hostess Claire made our night very memorable with her attention. The cherry on top was finding out she treated us the wine as we were celebrating our 21st anniversary. What a generous gesture! That’s hospitality at its finest. Thank you Claire! Can’t wait to come back once the dining restrictions are lifted.
The food was good, the service was good, the safety protocols were good. No one was blown away by thier meal but everyone was happy with everything ordered. Nothing was bad! Would go again.
The family style platters are delicious and the portions very generous. The Lamb was cooked to perfection and I highly recommend this dish
Service was amazing! She went above and beyond for us.
If you read all the other reviews on this restaurant, they are all true. Our sever was nice and it was his second day, so we just sat back and enjoyed the evening. Don’t go here if you’re in a rush.
Great food and service
Highly recommend this place safe and spacious. food was awesome and got the best service
Great menu, ambience and service combined with a fantastic wine list
Manager and team do not communicate affectively.
Resulting in my fiancé’s credit card information paying for another bill. Upon my inquiring the manager was very combative and argumentative.
My fiancé wanted to surprise my family and I by calling in to pay for our dinner. Instead, we had to stay around for another 30 mins to wait for the manager to figure out what happened (which he didn’t) and I ended up paying in cash.
I called the manager yesterday after seeing the charge on my fiancé’s card, and he said he would issue the refund immediately. It’s been over 48 hours and it has still not been posted and we have not had an email reply from them at all.
We came here with the kids to try the DOV menu. But we ended up ordering a leg of lamb platter with appies instead. The food was delicious and the lamb was cooked perfectly. Even our kids, aged 8 and 11, were asking for more. Then we were curious about the fish, so we ordered a fish platter as well. We had it baked with the sea salt. They brought the fish and cut it at our table. Since we had looked at the DOV menu initially, I had my eye on the Greek Donuts for dessert. Unfortunately, it wasn't on their regular dessert menu. Our server was kind and checked if we get it anyway. So we ordered that as well as the Bougatsa! We were beyond satisfied with our whole dinner experience!
I can't wait until COVID is over. I'd love to share a few platters with all of my family at Hydra!
Not worth it if you are looking for fine dining. We were seated very close to a server traffic area which was uncomfortable— someone was constantly moving behind me. Food was meh—nothing compared to other Mediterranean places we have tried. We were excited to try their dine out menu but was quite bland. Ambience was okay and our wait staff was nice.
A beautiful dining experience! Great food and wonderful service. We really enjoyed the meal!!
