   The food is always excellent, the service was a bit slow but understandable if not many staff are available. The front door is a problem for people with mobility challenges, there should be some kind of automated system that could help everyone enter easily.

   All in all it wax great BUT YOU NEED TO FIX OR GET A BETTER WHEELCHAIR RAMP AT THE FRONT DOOR AS IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE CODE AND MY WIFE HAD TROUBLE GETTING OUT IN HER POWER WHEELCHAIR

   I never write reviews but I felt the need to this time. I was with my girlfriend celebrating her 25th birthday. We went to the spa and had dinner, wanting the full idlewyld experience. The spa was very nice, however the service at dinner ruined the entire experience for us. I do not recall her name, but she was an older lady with grey hair. I am unsure if it was our age, race, or what it was, however we were treated incredibly poorly compared to the customers around us. First and foremost, it took 20 minutes for us to even get water and 30 more minutes to get bread, we ordered an appetizer and it did not come out until we almost finished our dinner when she realized we never recieved it. Her justification was that another table had the same meal as us, and made me feel as though she was blaming us for not speaking up. We had to ask for more water despite her walking around to her other tables with a pitcher refilling their water, ignoring us. We were not offered dessert, despite wanting some for my girlfriends 25th birthday celebration (not expecting free dessert, simply the option to have dessert), but instead had the bill thrown at us, rushing us out. I kept count and for every 3 times she spoke to the tables around us, she spoke to us once. We both felt incredibly uncomfortable and wanted to leave and I felt horrible that I booked this restaurant for my partners 25th birthday. At the end of the dinner I felt obligated to tip well despite the poor service in a hopes of not confirming whatever sense of stereotype she held against us. I am a server myself and if I ever made my customers feel this way I would quit. I truly wish I could write a better review, but the service absolutely put us off and made us never want to return.

   Although the dining room has lovely charm and character it is becoming worn and the chairs uncomfortable which makes the enjoyment of the meal less. The server we had was above excellent. She was a long term employee and gave very specialized service. We were there as our daughter was taking us out for my birthday. I have enjoyed lunch there before but not dinner. The menu is not extensive but everything we ordered was delicious. We did not try their wine selection.

    Amazing food and service!!! We went for Sunday Brunch for our first time with my daughter, and had an amazing time. The server was not only pleasant but very helpful and made sure we had a great time. The food - outstanding! We can't wait to come back for a dinner out back on the beautiful patio this summer!

    From the free parking to dessert this was the perfect dining experience. Everything was excellent. The server was attentive but not intrusive- she allowed us to enjoy our wine without rushing our starters. This was a great dinner.

    We had a fantastic meal at Idlewyld. Our server Katherine was top notch - she made us feel very comfortable and we didn't need to ask for anything. The meal was absolutely delicious from start to finish - best beef tenderloin and scallops we have ever had. We wish Idlewyld would do a price fixe menu like Elmhurst. Some of the appetizers on the menu seemed more like a meal than a starter.

    The server was excellent, did not hover and recognized we had two elderly ladies with us that needed extra care. Love the atmosphere, very soft background music and you are able to talk and hear each other at the table. The food was picture perfect, fresh and absolutely fabulous! Parking is easy. Might fix that ramp at the front door as it has a couple of 'lips' in it that made it hard for my 94 year old aunt with her walker.

    Great evening out with my family. I had the beef tenderloin and my family had the salmon. Both incredibly delicious. Server was very friendly and helpful with suggestions. It's a beautiful restaurant but noise carries, so not for quiet fine dining (unless you're the only ones in the room).

    Amazing brunch for my mom's birthday. As someone with celiac I was totally comfortable eating there, and the gluten free substitutions were excellent! Our server and the kitchen staff were very knowledgeable about gluten free/celiac requirements. The food was all amazing! Will definitely be back!

    Had the salmon and seafood linguini.. both excellent! Lemon crème brûlée was the perfect end to the meal. Catherine was extremely pleasant and did an excellent job of taking care of us on our 50th anniversary.

    The ambience at Idlewyld is romantic. Being a party of two, we were seated in an appropriately intimate smaller room. The high ceilings, quiet volume level in the room, distance from the street, large windows, intimate lighting and presence of many solid wooden antique furnishings all created a lovely feeling of being on vacation, far removed from the cares of our daily life. The wait staff were cheerful, friendly and generous, responsive to our tastes; for example, when they saw how much we enjoyed the 18-year-old balsamic vinegar and olive oil bread dip, they brought us more bread and topped up our dip as well. The staff were the opposite of snooty, assuaging my perennial minor fear of being looked down upon by the staff at a classy restaurant. The cocktails before dinner were really excellent, and did not skimp on alcohol content as so many Canadian establishments seem to do. (We can't rate the cocktails for 'creativity' because we weren't interested in ordering 'creative' cocktails but rather, old classics.) the white wine was gorgeous. The portions of food were very generous and were delicious, with some impressive creative flourishes that worked (like the dusting of cumin atop the salmon). It was super easy to reserve our table; Idlewyld has its website well in order. And we didn't even have to present our confirmation number upon arrival; the ugly high-tech security-paranoid modern world is left outside the door of the actual establishment. If the paintings on the wall had been restful pastoral landscapes and/or still lifes to fit with the feel of the house, and if the music had been perhaps some chamber music set on a low volume, it would have been a near-perfect dining experience. But the 'woke' and modern world can only be kept so far at bay, I guess, even for Idlewyld. Still, if you're interested, my vote is for classical music coming through the speakers in such a dining establishment!

    The food was amazing. The service was okay, but there were a couple of things. First, there was a delay in someone greeting us. Okay no worries we can wait. When some one did acknowledge us, they seemed a little flustered. Which was odd because we had a reservation and it was not busy. We were seated and that was fine. While waiting for our server, we could hear employees talking and complaining very loudly in the back kitchen area. So much so that the lady who seated us commented to us that they were loud and she went into the kitchen to ask them to be quieter. A few minutes later, or service brought us our appetizers which were not actually for us were for another table. Again no issue, just awkward. Then as we were served the correct food, again we could over hear loudly the two employees bashing another worker. Saying she was lazy, never cleaned never looked after her responsibilities and were displeased they have to work with her… Having worked in the service industry I know it can be frustrating working with people. However, this really wasn’t the time or place to be venting. And it was again awkward for us to over hear that since they were talking loudly and close by. This was not the professional experience I had the last time I was here and made this experience a bit disappointing especially since we were here to celebrate a birthday. Overall, it was ok. Not great and we will look else where to celebrate our milestones.

    It is a beautiful venue and the food was absolutely fabulous, unique, delicious and wonderful presentation. We loved it and would definitely go back. We have a special event coming up and will definitely come to Idlewyld for it.
