   We picked this on a whim and could not be happier. Absolutely everything we had was delicious, servers were attentive and they went above and beyond to make it an enjoyable experience plus ensure we were satisfied. For example, my date ordered a drink he didn’t particularly like and they happily switched it out for no charge. Will definitely return if I am in the area again!

   We made a reservation for an outdoor table. They originally sat us inside but then moved us outdoors when we mentioned it. We were not greeted by a server for 20 minutes after that, which made us miss the window to order brunch. We waited an additional 10 minutes but the server did not return. We ended up leaving to go to another restaurant.

   Il Piatto is an enchanting place. We sat outside and while the street traffic was very evident, it is still a comfortable place to have had lunch. My partner’s poached pear salad was wonderful. My seafood pasta was equally good. My rose was great, but the amount was less than I expected. All in all, we had a wonderful and peaceful lunch that capped our visit to the Renwick.

   The food was wonderful from the appetizers through to the desserts. The food was beautifully plated and the portion size was not overwhelming allowing us to enjoy the range of the menu. Our waitress was attentive and very patient with our group.

    Wonderful food, wonderful service. The weather was perfect on the patio. What made this an experience we will remember is our interaction with manager Jose. He treated us like guests in his home rather than customers at a restaurant. Well done everyone. We’ll be back and looking for that crème brûlée cheesecake.

    We needed a nice place for a party of 10 for a work-related lunch. Il Piatto was perfect — great food, really pleasant atmosphere and the service was truly great despite our large party. Will return with my husband soon.

    Jose and the team bring out the best customer service excellence. I have been coming for the weekend brunches but the dinner experience was amazing. This is definitely one of DC’s hidden treasures.

    There’s something off about the indoor seating here. There are too few tables and too close together, with some small booths. They didn’t seem to have the back dining area open for the timeframe we went for Mother’s Day, which made it even more “tight.” Food was fine, English muffin for eggs Benedict were hard as rocks however. Service was good, but they left a few random dirty plates on the table the whole meal. Overall would still recommend with above caveats.

    Rigatoni Alla Panna was excellent! Perfectly flavored, light and creamy sauce, delicious. Chicken marsala and ravioli were also very good choices. Service was fantastic, too. Location is so close to White House, very comfortable neighborhood to walk around, easy to get to.

    Alberto, our waiter gave extraordinary and professional service. He also recommended a delicious Barbera Italian wine. Appetizer, pasta and entre courses were outstanding. As well as desert! Eileen, the GM was very attentive! We will return.

    Hostess was RUDE… our one waiter was fantastic! The occasional waiter was asked to fix our wobbly table— he gave an eye roll and a condescending answer. Our regular waiter fixed with no problem. Food was delicious.

    The cocktails were terrific and a highlight of the meal along with dessert. The initial starters were a tad bland and so was the food I had, but my companions had better meals (the short ribs and the lamb) so the evening was a success. Definitely recommended if you're down near the Whitehouse.

    Three friends and I had lunch at Il Piatto. Two of us had the Express Lunch and two ordered off the regular menu. The food was good but not exceptional. The portions were normal and not conducive to leftovers. The service was outstanding. It was too cold to eat outside, but the restaurant's outside patio was lovely, although it's on a busy street (16th Street). The Happy Hour menu looks interesting.

    The food was terrific and all I’d read about in other reviews. One dish arrived somewhat cold but the flavors and textures made up for it. The dining room is so loud - no joke! We sat at a two person table along the window facing out to the patio. The entrees and apps were amazing and our beers and cocktails were also good. We didn’t feel rushed and were seated timely for our reservation.

    Food was good but subpar service made the experience less than memorable; drink refills/water were painstakingly slow, the bread didn't arrive at our table until after dessert and general service by our waiter was so slow that other staff came over to assist without us asking.     They treated us like royalty. We were there to celebrate our anniversary and they acted as excited as we were. The pastas were very good. The personal attention was off the chart. The cocktails were also very good-recommend the Passion Guru and the Piggyback Old Fashion.

    But for the service, I would give this place 5 stars. The outdoor dining setting is very attractive, comfortable, quiet in the middle of the city. The food is excellent: buratta and proscuitto, rigatoni, seafood linguine (outstanding), cheesecake delicious. Skip the so called panna cotta - it was more of a gloppy overflavored lemon mess. Good drinks and bottle of Chianti. Very reasonable pricing. They seem to have a management and training challenge. There were plenty of servers and busboys and food runners. But our otherwise fine waiter was also serving inside, and we did not see him very often and if we needed something in the interim (pepper, salt, a drink order corrected, plates for shared food) no one seemed willing to help or they heard us out and disappeared without returning. There were a lot of "standing around" staff who seemed clueless about what they were to do nor how to respond. And we weren't the only ones waving our hands. Twice our food was delivered to the wrong table. There was a manager, perhaps, who was efficient if with a sour disposition (maybe it was a bad night for her) who did bring salt and later the check when the waiter was not to be found. No one said thank you or good night. They can fix these things with half an hour's training of the busboys to constantly scan the guests for needs, and perhaps the manager can muster some charm. The garden is great but next time we will try having dinner at the attractive bar where presumably you can easily get the bartender's attention if needed.
