We picked Il Canale for dinner this week after having walked by people enjoying their incredible pizzas dozens of times. We had to get a pizza which was amazing! Also enjoyed a very fresh salad-I highly recommend the lemon dressing. Lamb chops and a side of spinach rounded out our meal. All portions are large enough to share; we left happily full. The service was friendly and attentive. We will definitely go back!
Excellent family dinner.
Giovanni did a great job. Salad - fresh! Enough to share. Fried calamari was fabulous. Pizza margareta was delicious. affogato and cannoli desserts were yummy! Great wine too.
Bruno is the best!!! I swear your pizza tastes better every time I go. Grazie amici
Great service and even better food. One of our favorite Italian places to go to!
Very quick to seat guests. Child friendly. Our waiter was exceptional. He was very friendly and interacts well with everyone on the table. Food was delicious. We come to Il Canale from Maryland because of that
Our server Bruno made our night! Not to mention the authentic Napolitano pizza! Yum!!!!
We ate outside on the upper terrace. I had not realized that this existed. Il Canale is actually a much bigger restaurant than you would imagine from the street. The terrace was quite pleasant, and when we passed through the restaurant on the way out, I was struck by the noise. I was glad we had not been inside, because conversation would have been difficult. The food itself was unexceptional. Not bad, not great. They mixed up my wife's order and brought her a salad with salmon rather than chicken. I was under the impression that il Canale was the best of the three Italian restaurants in this block of 31st Street, but I actually think they are all rather similar. In terms of wine, the Prunicce Tuscan red blend was excellent.
Glad we made a reservation for our Friday evening dinner, because it was crowded and there was a line waiting to get in! Our server, Giavanni was very friendly and efficient!! Will definitely come back for the Neapolitan pizza!! We got the margarita and diablo…delicious!! The calamari appetizer and seafood pasta entree were also very good! It was our first time, and we will definitely be back!!
They weren’t willing to modify their menu to toss in a few stir fried veggies instead of the meat to make it vegetarian friendly. We ordered a stir fried veggie platter, and it was served chilled!! 🙄. When asked, they said that’s how it’s served, chilled. Refused to hear it up.
big problem is they brought the pizza at the same time as the appetizers-thus making a big mess Pizza is good but there are problems with other stuff
Great food but a little expensive. If you eat outside, get ready to gear honking a lot.
Very good food, good service and very freindly staff. Seems best to have a reservation, was busy on a Tuesday, which must mean great place!
Nice outdoor dinning area. Service was very good. Food was good and had lots of options fr those with food restrictions.
Everything was very good service was excellent
We spoke to the owner Joe to express how much we enjoyed his restaurant and our meals. He said that’s what makes him the happiest to know.
Very noisy & crowded. Long wait for appetizers & meal came out first.
The place was so busy they were trying to rotate people in and out as fast as they could. We were encouraged to order apps and dinner at the same time because the waitress said they were slammed. They all came out at the same time and the pizza was under cooked. We were in and out in less than an hour- I waited longer for the table. Not what is call a dinner experience but a rush to get customers in/out.
Everyone was more than satisfied with their meal. Excellent waiter. He recommended a Pinot Grigio that wasn’t yet in the menu & it was an excellent suggestion! A bit noisy but we will go back!
Food was great! It was very busy but the service staff was attentive. I would definitely dine here again. Reservations are a must.
The taste was great! We had pizza. Wish the crust had been crispy. It was soggy. But, again, the taste was great! Would go back. Ask for crispy crust.
This post COViD and we realize that. The pizza was soggy pasta portion small. We were hoping for more given the reviews.
6pm reservation so we could catch a 7:30p movie down the block. After asking multiple times our entrees finally got to table at 7:14pm. Both orders of ravioli were cold, not remotely warm. Sent back, remade (probably the same ones just reheated) but at that point we had to leave. So we left hungry and still were charged for everything. Pretty lousy experience all around especially the apathy from the server. There are much better Italian spots in Georgetown.
Very busy place but needs more wait staff. Food was good.
Despite having reservations the check-in was a disaster. Took us 30 minutes to be seated and it seemed nobody at the restaurant knew what was going on. One maitre’d was completely dumbfounded it seemed and unable to do anything and another person seating guests brushed us off, walking by us and being dismissive until my wife demanded a table. Server was pretty good though and I liked the food.
Waited over an hour to be seated despite having a reservation. Service was horrible.
Very crowded restaurant, took a while for them to seat us even though we had a reservation. The staff looked very stressed and were running around trying to get everyones orders. Food was very good nonetheless!
The food was very good and the staff was helpful and nice. This was our third visit.
This was disappointing. Been here a few times over the years, but after Saturday’s experience, I’m not sure we will be back.
Appreciated that they honored our reservation despite the fact that we were late arriving after the movies
We had a fabulous and delicious meal to celebrate our anniversary. The prosciutto and Buffalo mozzarella was the best I have ever had! The atmosphere is vibrant at il Canale. To top off our meal, we had cannoli with pistachios on a lovely decorated plate! We highly recommend il Canale!
Great service, great food.
The service and ambiance were excellent. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. However for the price the food wasn’t great. The gnocchi were over cooked and the penne al salmone was very salty. The wine portion was a bit skimpy too. I’ve been to Italy so I’m very picky about Italian food. Otherwise it was a pleasant dining experience.
Excellent table service. The salmon and sea bass were delicious. The ravioli was fresh and light. The flat iron steak was very tender. The house salads lacked pizzazz. Deserts were absolutely delightful.
I went for my birthday, the food was great but the service was poor, waiting for 15 mins to take drink orders then the drinks finally arrived half way through eating the starters. Seeing tables around us being better looked after then having to flag the waiter down to order more drinks and then waiting another 15 mins for a box after the entrees really did it for me and it was time to leave. The experience did put a downer on the end of a good day and I won’t be going back in a hurry.
Excellent as always!!!
Il Canale was a great host for my wife’s birthday dinner. They provided great service and a special desert treat. Food was very good. Unfortunately they were out of the lobster ravioli last night which is awesome. We recommend this place. They also have great pizza and a nice take out service too..
