   Love the food and service! Nice variety of local Japanese dishes. We loved the food and the staff are nice. Very vibrant atmosphere because everyone is having a great time. Some people might think it’s too much! We didn’t mind it.

   We had a delicious dinner! First time we had been there since it was remodeled but have been going there for decades. The food was just as delicious as ever and was promptly served and the staff was always there if we needed anything. The host was very attentive and called us just minutes after we left letting us know we had left a cell phone at the table. We look forward to eating there again soon. It’s wonderful having such a good place in the neighborhood for so long as we’ve watched so many others close.

   Everything was amazing! Sashimi fresher than fresh. Flounder karaage crispy but moist- the bones and fins are perfectly fried, I ate it all except for the really thick spine. Noise level was on the uncomfortably loud side though. I’m not sure if the crowd was extra festive or if the decor needs just a little bit of acoustic dampening. My ears were ringing from a lady two tables away😅. Overall it was a great experience, the food and service was outstanding!

   Food does not disappoint here although (understandably) a bit more $$$ than my previous visit 4 years ago. The sashimi was so fresh & tasty (mahalo Larry!) and the fried flounder & hamachi kama so flavorful . Good selection of sake - was hoping with the current strength of US $ to Japanese yen, the prices would be a bit lower but not. No criticism tho. Kudos to the attentive staff.

   Expensive by mainland standards but very good quality presented in an unadorned, functional space. We were very satisfied with our chef's sashimi selections, and our guest enjoyed his pork tonkatsu.

    They were so generous enough to seat us even though we were 15min late. I would have given them 5 stars if the host didn’t make a comment about there being another reservation after us at 7pm. We made sure we were done with our meal before the next reservation but as we were leaving, the next party wasn’t even there and they still had a few more tables open. So I feel I could have enjoyed my meal a lot more than have to rush into it. Overall the food was delicious and the service from our waitress was awesome!

    Super lecker, alles frisch und direkt aus der Küche zubereitet, preislich absolut ok, netter Service (wenn auch etwas chaotisch) Sehr gut gebucht, Speisen-Reihenfolge nicht eingehalten, zB kamen die Edamame zum Schluss (!). Keine Lokation für spezielle Anlässe, aber sehr gut für just go out for dinner. Wir würden jederzeit wieder hingehen.

    Love this place, we go back almost weekly, great staff and excellent food....... and wonderful Saki We love their crab avocado salad, fried flounder, Set C Sushi, green tea ice cream with mochi balls...... jadori chicken, the food is really really good. Highly recommend.

    As is it everytime we get to eat Nonbei we are grateful for the genuine great service and outstanding quality of food. Most of all we enjoy the lively environment and enjoy the music too! The music selection adds to the chill ambiance!

    Izakaya dishes elevated for a sophisticated palate. Every bite bursting with flavor! Enjoyed everything we ordered (party of four) tho a few dishes stood out for me which were: Nasu shimeji/enoki mushrooms (must love butter), Wafu Steak (if you like garlic), Tori Kara (what is in that delicious sauce!), and the warabi mochi. Love the renovation done about two years ago. The face lift to a traditional izakaya gives the feeling of being in Japan again. Parking is easy as they now have two parking lots!

    Poor customer service. We had reservations and were a few minutes early. The host sat us near the noisy kitchen and I asked if we could sit at a different table in a quieter location. He said no and that the empty tables were already taken. He said that those tables were reserved by his regular customers. I told home that I will not be coming back.

I don't think it is fair to our regulars that have requested certain tables to be given away to you just because you feel entitled. There is also the dynamics of other reservation that follows after each tables. If you have requested a table away from the kitchen in your reservation we would have gladly have accommodated you.     The sushi is always good, service is great, and the food is a bit better than in the recent past, which is nice to see. Great draft and sake. The room is a bit noisy, so I'm not sure the music level overhead works given the low ceiling and poor acoustics. The "modernization" really rendered conversation difficult, but an engineer could probably come up with a remedy.

    Service was great. Food came out quickly and servers checked back frequently. The flounder karate filets were prepared well and tasty, however, the bones were not crunchy enough to be eaten easily. Maybe needed a little bit more frying. A little bit pricey as it came out to about $100 per person. We only had draft beer to accompany the meal. I'd still come back though.
