My food showed up 27 min after my husband and it was cold steak. I said no onions but there was so manny on there after all that wait. She forgot my drink order totally and never got that. The brunch was mediocre and disappointing. :( I been here many times and first few times when they just opened food was great but last couple times is been not good and that’s sad

This was a wonderful experience. The setting is lovely and the food was varied and everything delicious. Service was excellent. We found the background music to be louder than necessary and the type of music could be more subtle and melodic. Otherwise a great evening.

This experience exceeded my expectations by 100%. Someone told us it was “just okay” and “overpriced and overhyped”. So we went in with semi-low expectations. However the service was top notch, the ambience is lovely, the music wasn’t too loud or “too” anything (like a genre you can’t stand, etc), it was super lively and packed on a Sunday night, but it felt convivial, not overpowering. The food amazed at every stage. The combinations of textures is what drew me in. Such creativity and elegance! It WAS on the spendy side (nearly $600 for 8 of us, and we had no drinks—would have easily been $800 if we had), but more ‘worth it’ than any higher-end dining experience I’ve had in years! Bravo! 👏👏👏👏

The food was as delicious as I remembered. Enjoyed a great bottle of sake and cocktails. Got to sit under the cherry tree! It was a bit hard to hear our server as she was soft spoken. We left happy.

Great food, super snobby staff, they force you out in 2 hours per "policy" which is unacceptable considering the cost of food,drinks. Great vibe with music but much better restaurants to go to in Portland

We went with the Omakasa, and it was amazing! They asked us if there was anything specific we really wanted and what our price point was and then it was just a trip to heaven . it was a special birthday dinner for our friend who we try to one up every year and I think we have won for life! he declared it was the best dinner he had ever had in Portland, and that is saying a lot!

At the restaurant for a special birthday celebration. Food mediocre for the price. Worst part was we were rushed off our table. Reminded several times that we only got the table for 2 hours. Turned a nice reflective evening into a hurry up and get out. Not amused! Won't be back. Plenty of other places to enjoy.

The food was great. Wasn’t a fan of the service from the time we walked in until the time we left. It wasn’t welcoming to me or my guest and it was our first time there. I don’t anticipate I will return on my own in the future.

We dined at this restaurant on a Saturday night, and it was a disappointment. The food was overrated, and it seemed the establishment wasn't primarily focused on culinary excellence. Many young people were present, appearing more interested in being seen than in enjoying their meals. The vibe of the place wasn't exactly warm and cozy, probably because of where we were sitting - right across from the host stand. And oh, talk about a drafty spot! It was so close to the door that we got hit with every whoosh of breeze and cold air. I mean, I had to keep my coat on the whole time! When we requested a seat change shortly after we sat, our server inquired with the host about an alternative table for two. However, the host declined without even peeking to see if there was another spot open. Weirdly enough, a couple of tables stayed empty for like, over an hour. Go figure. And the host? Not exactly Mr. Sunshine when we walked in. At least our server was nice, but all in all, the whole night was kinda meh. The overall experience was underwhelming. We do not plan to return, as it simply wasn't worth it.

Food and service were both excellent. However the prices were ridiculous. $20 cocktails and $34 sushi rolls while good are 50% more expensive than reasonable. Be warned eat light or prepare to leave with a lot lighter wallet

Food was on point! Prices are a bit steep but worth it. Service was a little of a let down. Our server was nice but not attentive, had to wait several times to get our drinks refilled. Also, the male host (shaved head) is not welcoming or friendly. This was my 2nd time coming and I recalled him being exactly the same on my previous visit (abrupt, and borderline rude).

We just enjoyed 10 different items from the Janken menu and enjoyed all of them. Great ingredients with good flavors... just not good enough to justify the very high prices. This is one of the most expensive restaurants in Portland so it should be a mind blowing experience. It wasnt.

We were told to wait 5 minutes to be seated when we checked in (on-time) for our reservation because they didn’t have our table ready. We waited outside where many others were also waiting to be seated for their resy’s. There was a heater outside but it wasn’t turned on even though it was cold out. We ended up waiting just under or right at 15 minutes when the hostess led us inside to be seated.. mind you they only hold reservations for 15 mins so it’s a bit of a double standard there. Once we were seated the ambiance was nice and service was ok except it was way too hot inside and our waiter missed 2 of our orders. He also brought us out the wrong dish which was fine because it was great and he ended up comping it. Another thing to note, tequila sodas last month were $10 however, this month they were inexplicably raised to $13. Overall 3/5 due to wait time and service missteps.

Unfortunately , we have expected way more from Janken, relaying only on customer reviews. Another over salted gastro spot, with fantastic ambiance (only if you’re sitting around or facing the signature Tree) Quality of the food was superb, but i wish that we could really taste it more, however, we had just overwhelming taste of liquid salt in the mouth after every bite, including all 4 different dishes we have tried. The only Steak tartare (which was our 5th dish) and it was delicious. In general, It’s pretty much similar experience as you would be drenching Tabasco sauce in your pasta until entire dish tastes like Tabasco. We understand the food concept. Lovely combinations and complex food parring ingredients coming from all hard work in a kitchen. Overpriced place indeed, especially for any glass or bottled wines as many reviews have mentioned. Service was ok, food arrives faster than an our bottle at the table. For a small plates, overpriced and over salted tapas size experience, you’re probably better off thinking twice before making your reservation.

More a disco than a restaurant, Janken is a thudingly loud, frenetic place stuffed with young people more interested in being seen than in food. The table design makes sitting side-by-side dangerous to one's knees (for the first time we were forewarned that when neighboring tables were occupied we would be required to move face-to-face) and the menu presumes one has eaten there enough to understand pairings and plates. No help from the waitperson. Service is comatose and order of delivery hazardous, with some not necessarily matched plates arriving after as long as a half-hour interval. The food can be flavorful, if incongruous, and the prices nothing short of hubristic. With the 20 percent tip automatically added to our bill, our a la carte dinner for two came to well over $300. Come on!

I’d been looking forward to trying Janken for a while and the ambiance and service did not disappoint. However, food was hit or miss. Spicy yellowtail roll was amazing but the miso soup and chili prawns fell way flat. The pork belly, crispy hamachi and beef tartar were good. At this price point ($300 for two people), I’d expect food and drink to be spectacular and it just wasn’t. So many cheaper restaurants with better food in the area.
