Jordan Pond House, a restaurant and shop with a long tradition within Acadia National Park, sits on a hill overlooking a beautiful lawn along the Jordan Pond. Guests have been enjoying these amazing views and dining at this site since 1893 when Nellie McIntire, the first proprietor, started baking and serving her famous popovers out of the restaurant. Ever since then, we have been serving popovers and tea.

Some “aggressive hornets” ensured that we were seated indoors, which I had read in an earlier review, takes away the only redeeming quality of this restaurant, and they weren’t wrong. The hall, which it looked old world and not bad, smelled of dampness and death. The service was unremarkable and a little inattentive, but the real issue was the food - bland and without character, or any redeeming quality. It’s spoken of locally as an institution, and it feels like that reputation was built solely on the views. If I had a do-over, I would take a drive and make a reservation for the Arcadia point sunrise or sunset (the latter is easier to find), take in better views and save my money and palate for something better.

We came here solely for the view around golden hour. They sat us at a bizarre table, with chairs for 8 people even though we’re a party of two, and probably the worst view of the back windows in the entire restaurant. I asked twice if we could move to a smaller table with a better view and the older woman who sat us was very rude even though there were several other tables available. Our waitress didn’t even try to engage with us, was always in and out as quickly as possible. The popovers were fine, the lobster stew was good, and everything else was far below average. Restrooms were disgusting. Not worth going for dinner, even for the view/location.

Best was the lobster stew and popovers. The rest of the food was average in taste. Not a fish entree except for lobster, despite it being close to the ocean. Better dining options in Bar Harbor. Everything was overpriced.

Go for the popovers. Specifically for the strawberry jam to put on them. Otherwise - the food (risotto, gnocchi) is awful, the ambience is a weird mix of IHOP and 80s ski lodge, and it’s clearly a tourist trap coasting on those popovers. So we were dumb to actually eat dinner there and should have made more of an effort to score a popovers/tea reservation at lunchtime. Seriously, not good. (Our waiter Nick, though, was great.)

The only reason to eat in this restaurant is the pond view. Unfortunately, that time (end of season) the outdoor dining was closed due to hornets, so we didn’t appreciate the view. Inside I felt unpleasant smell of wet table cloths; the choice of food was poor; not really tasty; highly priced. I was surprised the restaurant didn’t offer Wi-Fi for guests but it would be very convenient since there’s no mobile service in this area. I would not recommend to book a table here. In Bar Harbor you can find much better dining options.

The popovers were the very best part of the meal unfortunately. We arrived at 7:15p for a 7:30p dinner reservation and were seated right away at a nice 2-top adjacent to the back windows overlooking the pond. So far so good. The service was generally quite good—no complaints on that front. Unfortunately the food was just ok at best. We started off with 2 apps: the baked Brie and the charcuterie board. The baked brie was mostly blueberries with a little sliver of Brie hidden somewhere beneath the compote. Here’s a hint for the chef—we know Maine loves its blueberries, but the Brie is supposed to be the star of that dish. The charcuterie board was just average—nothing special. She had the mussels and I had the risotto with chicken. Neither entree was very good. The chicken I added to my risotto was probably the best part. We had one drink each (blueberry mule and a glass of Sauvignon blanc) and skipped dessert. I think the check was around $110 before tip. The very best part of the meal was the popovers—truly. Everything else really was below par.

My dinner arrived barely warm, but it was tasty. It then cooled off really quickly as the restaurant was cold inside. I think most menu items were over priced just because of the place we were eating.

Beautiful location with lovely view. Food was average. The chairs scraping the floor were a little disturbing. Could put slides on the bottom of chairs,. We didn’t order anything complicated but the wait for the food was longer than it should have been. Maybe would recommend for lunch or tea, but no main meals. Overpriced for dinner.

Everything about the experience was awful - except the popovers, which were average to above average. The front of house staff was unhelpful and unfriendly. We arrived 15 mins early and our table was ready. However, we could not be seated until our reservation time. Our waiter got the drink and food order wrong. The food was clearly re-heated from refrigerated/frozen stock. The seafood was tasteless - a travesty given that we were on the coast of Maine. It’s remarkable to me that this place gets any positive reviews. The only explanation is that it comes at the end of a day of hiking and people are exhausted and hungry - and just happy to sit and eat anything. Otherwise, positive reviews are inexplicable.

We went in a rainy day so didn’t get to see any great views- but only Mother Nature is responsible for that! Food was delicious. Popovers live up to their hype. My only complaint was that service was actually too fast. We felt somewhat rushed. All course came out instantly with no pauses for conversation or savoring. I would have liked it better with better pacing.

Loved the location and atmosphere. Popovers and blueberry lemonade were amazing but the rest of our dinner was just OK. Was pretty pricey for what it was. Can say we've been there but probably won't eat there again. The gift shop is your average tourist shop.

The pop overs and coffee were very good but the service overall was really bad. I'm not sure what happened but our reservation got messed up. We got there 10 minutes before our reservation and ended up waiting for over 15 min after our reservation time to finally ask the hostess how much longer the wait would be. She looked confused, then said oh no and then they seated us. Once we were seated the waiter was very unattentive. Overall the food was good but it was not worth the hassle of having to get a reservation, still have to wait and then having bad service.

Popovers were wonderful, as always! Our server was very pleasant but we would not recommend Jordan Pond House for dinner. The food was OK. We did not get our water refilled, had to ask for a knife to cut a pork chop, and the table was so crowded with dishes during our meal that it was difficult to maneuver to eat. Maybe it was a challenging night but we would stick to afternoon popovers next time.

Nice concept and the popovers were pretty good but the rest of the food was ok at best, limited portions, very expensive and the $6 fresh squeezed lemonade tasted more like the kind from the soda fountain. I really wanted to love it but was less than impressed. Lobster stew was good but at almost $19 for a very VERY small cup definitely was not worth it :(

Waiter, food and views were great. Hostesses, gift shop staff and manager were beyond rude. My dad got stung on the lip by the CRAZY infestation of bees. My dogs were in danger w the bees. My mom had her Epi pen out. Second time we’ve been here and both times the team members could not be ruder - like they’re so over the amount of people there and just want everyone to leave. Sad because it’s so beautiful and food is so great. That won’t get repeat visits when the people ruin the experience though. It’s like they know it’s iconic and popular so they don’t need to be nice.

The food and ambiance were lovely. However, the prices would be appropriate for a fine dining experience, which this was not. Perhaps the servers were not properly trained but the service was really poor. Dishes not cleared, timing of food completely off, brought dessert menu mid way through meals so we had to hold it in our laps, water never refilled, etc. The location was fantastic but don’t expect fine dining.

My husband ordered Mac n cheese. We could not believe the size of the dish when it arrived at our table. It was wasn’t even the size of a side dish and had hardly any cheese. I had to give him some of my dinner. We were so disappointed. The popover was good. That’s about it.

The food and drinks were fine- I really liked my meal & drink, my husband thought his were just okay. But for the price, we wouldn't go again. It was very expensive, and I didn't think we got the full value. The service was pretty slow, even though the restaurant wasn't full when we got there. I'm glad we went for the experience (and it was super convenient to eat here after hiking the Jordan Pond loop), but I wouldn't do it again or necessarily recommend it to friends.

Rude hostess. Food mediocre other than delicious popover. Waiter service was not good. He seemed to always be in a hurry and kept forgetting things including our popovers which we didn’t get until after we had finished our dinners. Not worth the prices and as beautiful as the view is during the day, there is nothing special to see at night and the interior in the restaurant lacks any charm. Stick to having lunch and enjoying the beautiful scenery.

We had gnocchi Mac and Cheese …bland and the lobster risotto Milanese which had some really strong over-powering unidentifiable herb flavor. Also the popovers were over baked. If you want a quick meal in the middle of Acadia this place is perfect — and the only place to eat in Acadia. The people were friendly and the restaurant was clean. Great location. We had higher expectations of the experience for the price. We felt very rushed through our meal. I expect they have to move people through quickly to accommodate the number of guests. But this is not fine dining. The cocktails and food were good but not great. It was fun to go once but I wouldn’t go out of my way to go back.
