Josephine House is by far our absolute to-go breakfast/brunch restaurant. We go there often and love it. The quality of food is first class and the service is marvelous. Even if the music is not your cup of tea - say, at a place like that you might like to hear some ambience authentic French music or relaxing bossa nova or soft jazz - at least it is soft enough so as not to bother you. We highly recommend Josephine House to anyone who is looking for real quality food with great service and pleasant atmosphere!

This one of the worst experiences i’ve had at Josephine House. I went to brunch with a group of girls and the service was very bad. I love josephine house and the atmosphere and food but the service was bad. It wasn’t even crowded which is a little frustrating coming from a hospitality background.

A very disappointing dinner. The menu had no hors-d'oeuvres. We both ordered steak frites. The meat had a lot of fat and, in one case, a large piece of gristle; and it was oversalted. Bread was provided only upon request, with a small ramekin of butter. We waited a long time for our food and when it arrived, it was merely warm. The pommes frites were doughy. One of us had a glass of a coarse Malbec. Only a dessert sorbet was good. The service throughout was very desultory. The restaurant has always been moderately expensive, but in the past the food was worth the cost.

We went for brunch and enjoyed the food very much. Nutella pull apart bun, breakfast sandwich, pancakes, and the melon tomato burrata salad were all very yummy. There is very little indoor seating and we sat outside. Unfortunately it was raining and two of the tables (ours included) kept getting wet. The patio is cute and had heaters and a cover but I think I would be better on a nice day. Still, I think we will go back.

Came here for Friday brunch with a friend and was excited to try this place. The ambience and decor are absolutely stunning, however, while we enjoyed our meals, nothing absolutely blew us away. The servers were nice yet inattentive and there seem to be a fly problem, probably due to the indoor outdoor nature of the restaurant. Overall, I would return for a weekend brunch.

Cute ambiance, nice dim lighting, friendly staff. Food was fine, but not worth the price. Nothing exceptional. I was there for dinner with my husband, he was not impressed. Perhaps a better venue for a girls brunch.

We always enjoy Steak Frites night at Josephine House! The food is great, the wine flows, and everyone has a good time. It's a bit loud inside, but oh, well! Worth it when dessert is fabulous sticky toffee pudding. 🍷

We’ve gone to Josephine House for years. It’s a place we’ve celebrated many occasions, with friends and family. We enjoy the atmosphere and the food is good. We do wish the menu would expand and they change up some of the items. We would go more often if there were more choices. The menu is fairly limited and static. Over the years, the service has been amazing at Josephine house. However, this past year, it’s been subpar; consistently poor the past 3 times we’ve been. We were excited to celebrate our anniversary there this Friday but we were greeted by a barely interested server. Unwilling to engage us in conversation. Pushed us to make quick decisions and seemed rather impatient with us the whole experience. It felt as if she didn’t want us there at all, or perhaps was just trying to turn the table quickly. Josephine House is small but that’s part of the charm. It’s supposed to be a higher end dining experience. Not a turn and burn. We would expect for the price we pay that the experience would match. I can understand having an off night, but again, this has been our experience at least the past 3 times we’ve dined there. It’s disappointing because it’s been such a staple for us and a place we have really enjoyed going to in the past. I’m not one to leave reviews but feel it necessary to share this feedback. I hope that we can dine there again some day and have a different experience. Back to the level of service that we had come to expect, and honestly looked forward to.

Went for an anniversary lunch and left very satisfied with our decision to dine there. Quaint, yet elegant setting, great service, delicious food, and it was a plus that the weather was perfect as we dined on the outdoor patio. Definitely want to visit again.

I always come to the Josephine House when visiting Austin. This time, I came with 2 other girlfriends. You really can't go wrong here - great tasting, fresh food, quaint ambiance, friendly service. I was a bit disappointed that by 12:30pm that they had run out of a couple menu items, but my alternative option was still delicious.

Our expectations were high but Josephine House fell short. The service: Waiter approached us not with a warm hello and a how are you but with a “have you decided on a drink?” Well no, considering we haven’t had a moment to really look at the menu yet. He didn’t even tell us his name. It might have been nice if he had asked us what brought us to the restaurant and we would have said it was our anniversary and that we chose to celebrate at your restaurant. When making our reservation on Open Table we noted it was our anniversary though if nothing comes from providing this information then what’s the point? I would have assumed the hostess would pass this info to the waiter? We would have also appreciated the waiter providing some insight into the dishes the restaurant serves, food preparation, recommendations, anything to know we were talking to a human. It just all felt robotic and impersonal. Upon leaving we asked the bartender if she could take our picture to commemorate our anniversary and she looked annoyed by the request - no “Happy Anniversary” came from her lips! - but she obliged. We just didn’t get that welcoming feeling you’d expect from a quaint neighborhood restaurant. The ambience: very nice - dim lighting and tasteful decor- although the room got loud when more customers started to show up as the inside is very small. The food: I expected more from the pork schnitzel but the cornmeal crust was flavorless and the accompanying side was lackluster. It was a slaw but ate more like a garnish than a side. Seemed like all I had to eat was just a large slab of bland, fried pork. For the high price of the dish, I believe a more hearty side is warranted. My husband’s dish - the snapper - was delicious though. The sauce was super flavorful and the grits hearty. Now that dish was worth the cost. Overall, I don’t see us returning to this high priced restaurant with impersonal service, especially not to celebrate an anniversary.

Definitely sit outside. There was a loud table inside and we all suffered and ruined our first experience there. I tried to move but no flexibility or compassion from the host. And actually she was not my favorite person very stern and no sympathy for a ruined experience….

The burger is delicious! We had croissants and banana bread. Both were great. It is a wonderful brunch spot. The service was good and our waitress was very friendly. The atmosphere is very laidback. The outdoor space is beautiful. The only downside is the lack of parking.

Absolutely the best service in a charming, quaint environment. Eat outside for the optimal experience. The noise level is a bit much inside. The food presentation is almost always beautiful. Consistency can be an occasional but rare issue. My husband and I especially enjoy their brunch/lunch.
