   According to the restaurant, Gozen is a traditional Japanese meal set that consists of a main dish, rice, soup, tsukudani (pickles), and multiple side dishes, all beautifully served together on a single tray. My favorite dishes from the meal were the geoduck and penshell carpaccio, as well as the Black tiger shrimp frit with tosazu sauce served at the end. The carpaccio had a wonderful texture and flavor that was perfectly complemented by the accompanying sauce. Additionally, the crispy texture of the fritters provided a satisfying contrast to the tangy, slightly sweet tosazu sauce, creating a delightful flavor combination that lingered on my palate long after the meal was over. We visited the restaurant for their 1 year Anniversary menu. Having been to quite a few high-end Japanese restaurants, I had high expectations for them. Our host told us that he was a bartender before and mixed us a non-alcoholic lemon and ginger mocktail. I must say, it was quite the experience. The drink was refreshing and had a perfect balance of sweet and sour flavors. Additionally, the blend of lemon and ginger was not only delicious but also provided a variety of health benefits. Overall, it was a fun experience that gave us new flavors we haven't tasted before in other omakase spots. However, it could've gone bad if our host wasn't there. He was very well-spoken, described things very well, and took care of us all the way. The only thing that would've made the dinner version better would be to add an eel han

   The restaurant was a cosy little bar on the ground floor of a condominium close to Fairview mall in a residential apartment area. This restaurant is exclusively an Omakase restaurant with a set menu and various a la carts sushi (served in a stylistic cut bar or maki rather than the traditional nigiri and fish). they serving staff are all very attentive and friendly with the sound of funky Japanese music in the background, adding to the urban, Japan atmosphere. There are 12 seats that surround the bar, which makes conversation with my party of four difficult, although not expected for the type of food that is being served. The only downside of the evening was that parking was in the underground garage of the condominium and communication with the condominium concierge in order to gain access to the main floor was problematic. Street parking as possible although it is a two-lane road and somewhat narrow for parking. The restaurant is accessible from the outside, so garage parking is not necessary. Overall, it was a nice special occasion meal, although at $150 per person, it will probably be reserved for special occasions.

    This was an absolutely amazing experience. The dishes were beautifully put together, and you get to see them arranged right in front of you. I have never had tuna that melts in your mouth like this! My cup of tea was never empty, and the staff made friendly conversation if you like that sort of thing (we do, but not all of the guests there wanted to chat). It's fairly pricey, be warned. But it's so worth it! If I were rich, I'd be there all the time.

    The food was really good and well priced. Presentation was great and service was amazing. There is only bar seating so it was not the best for our group of four, wished we were at least seated at the corner so the whole party could converse better. Park on the street if you can, the underground parking was odd and not the easiest to navigate. Overall a great find uptown and would eat here again.

    Everything is up to bar. The food and service are both excellent. If you tell them your occasion, they will have a little surprise for you. Drinks are very excellent as well. We ordered Sake and Matcha cocktail. Both are amazing especially the matcha one. Highly recommended for anyone that loves Japanese cuisine.

    Tasting menu is overrated at $138 pp. overall experience is average. Service is fair but training seems inconsistent among all staff. Not all servers are able to introduce the dishes made, especially this is a tasting menu, please do homework preparation properly. The timing they serve drinks is disorganized - food is served before drinks and they offered us wine glasses when we ordered a hot sake? In addition, they seat every one at the same time and can only serve 11 people max so you’ll be dining with strangers with no privacy. Don’t expect an upscale feel as you’ll be disappointed. Restaurant is located on the ground floor of a condo with a community center and low income housing near by. Neighbour hood is a bit sketchy so that’ll impact the customer demographics.

    Originally came for lunch, but the Wagyu was extremely chewy for the wagyu Don but I decided to give it another try for dinner. The set menu for dinner was fun and very pretty but I felt like there wasn’t much flavour and the wagyu was once again was extremely lean and chewy. Desert was a Japanese moose with lychee ice (?) very refreshing. Service was great and cocktails were yummy. Won’t be returning unfortunately.

    Had a great experience last night at Jumi. The servers were nice and attentive while giving us our space. The food was some of the best we’ve had in town - lots of thought was put into every dish and the flavours complemented each other very well. The nigiri was extremely fresh (get the signature blue fin tuna add on!) and the salmon aburi was amazing. Compared to most restaurants in the city, you get a lot of food for what you pay.

    Very unique experience! Food is super fresh and tasty, ambience is good but very limited seatings and it’s on the counter. You get to see the chef preparing all the food for you. Drinks are overpriced but overall it’s great!

    I visited this restaurant several times. It's fantastic. Having Gozen-style meals in Toronto is a great experience. A significant seasonal menu is prepared to a high standard. The staff is always happy to help, the restaurant is clean, the environment is relaxing, and the food is both delicious and perfectly prepared. It is very recommended!!!!

    Service was slow, there was only one waiting staff. All 3 chefs were busy making food. The fishes did not look market-fresh but they tasted okay. The presentation of the sushi could use some improvement, they didn’t look enticing for a quick urge to gobble down. We ordered a 300ml bottle of sake, was told to drink it hot ( which was unusual) and the bottle of sake was poured into 2 small carafes when presented without showing us the actual bottle. The interior was modern Japanese which was eye-pleasing. The bar seats were comfortable enough to sit through the entire lunch. Nothing was rush which was nice for a Sunday afternoon lunch. Will go back for their famous Go-zen dinner set.

    Don’t think the quality of the food is worth the price, especially the quality of some of the fish. While I understand the restaurant concept is supposed to be “gozen style” which is everything served on one tray (soup/salad/sashimi/sushi) at once, this style as the website notes, is taken from the era of the Emperor, so that the table feels abundant looking like a feast fit for a king. However, that era is long gone, and I feel like it is more important in our current pandemic society to make sure food, especially raw fish and hot food, is freshly served for health reasons alone, and not simply left sitting for a long time while the entire table’s meal trays are being prepared one after the other. We witnessed one of our trays of food sitting there for at least 10 minutes, and there were flies flying about around the other people’s food next to us. It doesn’t give your clientele confidence that the food is served the absolute freshest it can be, when they see it sitting there for a long time without anyone serving it. Also, the server strangely asked us to get takeout from the takeout menu, when we hadn’t even finished eating our meal yet. Finally, I noted that this was a special meal for my dad’s birthday and no one even wished him happy birthday or offered anything to make him feel special. For the price level and standard this restaurant is trying to create/impose on its clientele, the actual food and service quality do not seem to match up. Quite disappointed as there are many places that serve sushi that is more fresh and in a better format and style like omakase that is more fresh and sanitary, where each piece is made fresh in front of you and immediately served for consumption, while costing less than this.

    The worst experience I have did Japanese dining. Beef was touch. My husband and I can hardly hear what their female servers were saying . They were not professional nor experienced. It’s expensive considering the food served .

    My experience at Jumi was amazing. Not only was the food delicious, but the presentation was artfully done and the service was impeccable. The Yuzu Sake was the perfect addition to our meal, and paired nicely with the salmon roe at the suggestion of our server. At the end, we had a lovely dessert, and it they even went the extra mile to write happy anniversary in chocolate. Will be returning for sure!
