We had a great table near the river which was nice. Our waitress was attentive and took our orders IB a timely manner. Unfortunately the food was disappointing. Even thought it was only 6pm they were out of the vegetarian lasagna which was one of the few dishes my daughter could eat.
Our 3 appetizers arrived quickly: Artichoke Francese, Arancini, and Spanikopata. The sauce for the artichokes was too thick and too lemony. The Spanikopata was just okay, a little on the bland side. The Arancini was good, especially the red sauce.
Our main meals were a mix. Both soups we had (Avgolemono and lobster bisque) were way too thick. Neither were finished.
I had one of the specials, sea bass, which was also a normal menu item!? It was bland and did not taste fresh to me.
The vegetable pasta dish was mostly pasta and not many veggies.
The souvlaki dishes were the best based on the comments from those that ordered them.
The other dishes, an entree salad (with a giant block of feta) and shrimp scampi, were okay.
We had two desserts, baklava and bougatsa, that were enough for 2 (or 3) people. The baklava was too heavy on the clove however.
All in all it was disappointing given all the good reviews I had heard on the radio.
Amazing river views & great Greek food!
The food was excellent. We really enjoyed our dinner.
$15 hummus appetizer was overpriced , had no taste snd had the consistency of dry wall paste
My chicken on the souvlaki platter was served to me RAW
On the kebob. It took so long to get it back and it was the same pieces but burnt
Apple cider margarita was the only good part of the dinner
I was there for lunch in summer and food was forgettable but thought to give it another try. Wont be back
Waitress said chef is the owner but I’ve had better Mediterranean food at a diner
We had our 11th anniversary dinner there recently with a table view of the river and city skyline all lit up. Wow! The waiter, servers, bar staff, and Jeff (owner and chef) came out to the table to wish us a happy anniversary. But, as nice as they were the food was even better. My wife had Chicken Sinatra and Lemon Chicken Soup. I had the Tenderloin Marsala with New England Clam chowder. We also had their famous flaming cheese appetizer with fresh Pita bread as an appetizer. Even though we wanted “Wummabite” ... (aka 1 more bite) we could not finish the portions were generous. We happily got to take our leftovers home.
Birthday dinner! Food excellent! Large portions! It was a Monday evening and just one other table...the outdoor terrace looks amazing when weather is nice!
Great service and atmosphere! Manager really took care of my special request for my date and we had a great time!
Grilled baby octopi were cold in the center. Obviously frozen when they hit the sauté pan. We had a grilled sea bass that couldn’t get past our nose...bad fish. Menu is way too big, which worried me from the beginning. I don’t understand the need to crowbar Italian items into the menu. I may return for a shot of mastic, but definitely not for the food.
Great service. Nice ambiance by the water. Very good food. Large portions good for sharing.
First time visit for dinner. Drinks at the bar first. Awesome bartender Kate! The meal was good. I picked something out of my comfort zone, and, it was very good, but a little too much cheese for my taste. My friends meal was very much enjoyed too. We will definitely be back.
We chose to eat outdoors, riverside. We were waiting for another person, so chose to have drinks. After waiting for awhile, we ordered appetizers. We never felt rushed and the service was wonderful. We ordered 2 appetizers, spanakopita was way too salty, but fried artichoke hearts were delicious. Main courses were quite good.
We really enjoyed the live music. It rounded out the evening .
The staff made us feel right at home immediately. Ambience was wonderful, the food was excellent. We will definitely go again.
Have to say I have lived here for 60 years and it's one of the best restaurants I've been to in a long time, I am a foodie and a chef in my own right, cost a lot of dinner parties at my home holiday parties I always have company coming over for dinner so for me to go out to dinner on a Sunday after Geva Theater it was just a delight!! From the moment we walked into the moment we left the service was impeccable oh, the staff was extremely friendly and really nice people, the food was fabulous , Ambiance was beautiful but still comfortable I can't say one bad thing about the whole afternoon!!
First time visiting new establishment. Staff very friendly. Food was fine, just not cooked to order. Will give another try though.
Amazing food, great spin on some American classics including the Greek Mule. LOVED!
The service was very slow and inattentive. The food was cold, wrong, and my husbands steak was raw! I mean purple and still mooing! We had a party of 6. Only one person was satisfied. Wine and band were great.
What a great place. My first time there. We were able to sit outside and at 7:00 a band started playing Beetle music. The food was fabulous. And I took Home enough for a second meal. A wonderful find.
Wonderful Greek and not the typical "dinner food"
The food was terrible. You could tell it wasnt fresh was frozen or imitation I dont know what ,never had lobster that tasted fishy before . The salad was brown had to be at least three days old.
Kainos, very nice pleasant. Food was good. I would go back again
We have been wanting to go to Kainos for a while since we love greek food. We ordered several appetizers to start with. The white wine we selected was warm when brought to our table. We sent it back to be cooled and therefore did not get it back until half an hour later. The selection of dips was bland and had no seasonings in it, no taste of garlic, lemon or anything described in the menu. The taramasalata was out that evening so it was replaced with another dip of our choice. The grape leaves were decent but again lacked seasoning. The grilled octopus was closer to a boiled octopus with no seasoning, chewy and tasteless. The loukaniko was cut and flattened and so overcooked that it was completely dry. Thank god for the lemon potatoes and the saganaki. We ended up not ordering anything else because the food was so tasteless.
Service was great. Our waiter was attentive to our table. Probably what saved the whole evening along with the decor and the proximity of the river. Unfortunately, we probably will not go back to Kainos. Such a disappointment.
The four of us fell in love with this place. First the inside decor is remarkable. We sat outside at the bar before dinner and enjoyed chatting with the bartender. He was very nice and knowledgeable. We weren't rushed to sit down. When we finally did sit down for dinner we were welcomed by friendly, efficient staff. The food is amazing! The chef came out of the kitchen to talk with his diners to ask how everything was, etc. I didn't hear one negative comment just as the four of us had nothing to complain about. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening there!
Everything was decent except the food. Food was average. Nothing special.
The service was quick and attentive. The waiter was excellent at making recommendations on the menu that were superb! The flaming cheese was the best!!
Great outdoor setting with beautiful views of Rochester. Food was fabulous for all 6 people. Service is weak and needs improvement.
Great food and a great space outside on the water. There is a bar outside that can get a little noisy (they had a big group) but otherwise it was great. Food was delicious.
My wife and I went there for our anniversary. We sat outside by the river as it was a beautiful night. Waiter came over asked us if we wanted anything to drink said yes and we also ordered an appetizer of grilled octopus, which
unfortunately my wife could not eat. She asked the waiter if they could grill the calamari instead of frying it,he said he would check and in a few minutes he came back with the manager Tim. Tim went and talked to the chef and said that would not be a problem. We were not charged for the octopus. I loved it and took the rest home. I ordered the poseidon and my wife ordered the lemon Greek chicken Both were very tasty. The server came back a number of times to check on us and make sure everything was OK. Our water glasses were filled all the time. Very attentive but not overly in your face. Over all it was a very enjoyable evening and we will be back.
A lot of things to work out, the food was mediocre at best, the 1st appetizer we ordered was grilled octopus, we had to send back, flavor was awful, and I’ve had plenty of grilled octopus. So in place we ordered arancini, that came out when we were done eating our meals. I ordered the lamb with rice pilaf, it came out with potato’s, I brought that to our servers attention, then he brought the rice, which was just a bowl of what seemed to be brown rice. My friend had the half chicken, that was dry.
We each ordered a glass of house. Pinot Grigio, we received our bill to see each glass was $13. That’s very expensive for a glass of wine.
I’m sorry for all the negativity, I eat out a lot, I know you would like to know. The silver lining is the staff, the hostess, the bartender, the server and the manager were all very nice, and very attentive.
It was clear to me that the kitchen needs help.
We love this new restaurant on the river! The food is delicious , the service is excellent and the ambiance is delightful! Also, every time we return, they’ve made improvements. Flowers, lanterns, umbrellas on the patio and now an outside bar - thoughtful additions that add to the customers’ experience.
We have been to your new location twice now and enjoyed it very much. We first meet you at your old location in Charlotte and we enjoyed our meals there as well. I love the spanakopita it’s outstanding my husband love the octopus salad
Waitress was new, long wait, wrong order , no water or refills on drinks offered
Great experience. Went with my wife and inlaws. We all enjoyed the food and service. We will be going back for sure. Also the menu was huge so there is plenty more to try.
We messed up our Open Table reservation but the staff especially Chuck and JJ were amazing. Great food and drinks were perfect and a big discount on the tab. We will definitely be at Kainod on our next visit to Rochester!!!
We enjoyed sitting out on the patio, with a wonderful breeze on a hot Thursday night. Our server, Denise, was superb: friendly, informative, attentive. Appetizers were generous portions and delicious. The Greek soup was amazing. We all enjoyed our entrees, including octopus salad, Grecian chicken pasta bake, Chicken Aphrodite, spanakopita. We're hoping to see some umbrellas on the patio on our next visit, in case of direct sun. The interior of the restaurant is stunning. Now if Google maps can just give correct directions to the restaurant, it will save some time finding the restaurant. It's right next to Joey D's on Exchange St., NOT on S. Fitzhugh St, as Google directed us. We're looking forward to returning soon!
Good vibe. Good food. Had to wait over an hour after ordered because of a big party they were serving. Other than that, was ok. I’d go back. Trying the brunch next time!
Not good. We had a grumpy server that was inefficient. The food was over cooked and tasted frozen/thawed. Not worth the prices.
Had reservations for dinner Saturday night. Upon arrival, nobody was at the hostess desk so we just stood there. Eventually, what appeared to be a server noticed us and asked if we had a reservation. I told him we did, but there still seemed to be some confusion (plus there were also many empty tables). He then start to lead us to a table outside, not asking if we'd like to sit outside in the heat and humidity. I asked him for a table inside and he said, "oh, I thought you were here for the band". I didn't know a band was even there and he didn't ask us, so how would he have known that? He then led the three of us to a table inside and gave us ONE dirty menu for the three of us to share, because that's all he had. After about 10 minutes, a waitress stopped by to tell us they're short staffed and how someone called out and the personal reasons for why they called out. Totally inappropriate. Someone else stopped by with water. Another 10 minutes went by, no sign of the waitress and we just got up and left. It just felt like if we ever did get the opportunity to order, we'd be waiting forever for the meal to be served. It was just a bad vibe from the minute we walked in. We will not be giving it another try.
Not at all what we expected. We expected a high end Greek resturant for fine dining. We’re taken to a table outside which was a plastic picnic table for 8 and told some one else would be seated with us. The outside deck was very tightly packed which made it difficult for the wait staff to work. The a Beatles tribute band started playing the music was so loud that conversation was impossible. The food was ok but not as anything like discribed on their web site.
It was a big party which would of been fine with burgers, hots and beer. So we probably will not return. I was very disappointed
Im sorry your experience was sub-par but to answer a few things the table and chairs were rentals from the 4th of july and we had them for the Beatles event, when you were aware of a band playing your should have requested indoor seating. We are as our website states a fine / casual dining establishment. Please give us atrying again and you will find a totally different experience thank you
Kainos is a favorite restaurant for us. Not only is the food delicious, but the chef/owner also bends over backward to accommodate food allergies and preferences. The staff is friendly and also very accommodating to our needs (which makes every visit a relaxing pleasurable evening.)
Our burgers were served on the wrong plates, but we all enjoyed them without any instance. Greek flavors are outstanding.
sorry about the mixed up but we are glad you enjoyed thank you
