A third-generation Texan well-versed in Tex-Mex cuisine, Killen has developed an immense passion for Mexican ingredients, regional dishes and traditional preparations, which he has studied extensively during his travels.
On our menu, you’ll find both classic Tex-Mex plates enriched with elements of barbecue, as well as Texas-tinged interpretations of Mexican fare, all made with fresh, quality ingredients and elevated through simple techniques. From scratch-made moles and salsas to house-ground corn tortillas, each detail is thoughtfully prepared to create a transportive experience at your table.
We look forward to sharing it with you.
Service is always great. Our server Logan was very attentive. Blake the manger always takes care of us. That’s why I keep coming back
Had reservations, seated immediately. Service was great. Ordered the TMX Trio of enchiladas which were awesome and also the brisket quesadillas which my wife loved! For an appetizer we did the brisket Queso which was mouthwatering! This was our third or fourth visit...and it seems to get better each visit!
Food was excellent!!! Ask for Story as your waiter!!
Awesome service. Chips and water were refilled before they were empty. Server was friendly and personable. Overall great experience!
The Food are AMAZING!! I had to ask for my Ice tea to be refill a couple of times but other than that, everything was Great.
We were celebrating our 1 year anniversary. We ordered the Waygu Steak Fajitas for two. The fajitas were very chewy and I asked for more tortillas as well as a to-go box. The waitress assured me that she gave us extra tortillas, but when I got home as I went through everything that was in the bag I saw that there was, in fact, no extra tortillas.
Went in for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. The food was excellent which is to be expected from a Killen establishment.
My positive review really isn’t about the food but about the staff. Our party included 2 toddlers which as you can imagine created a few obstacles for us. The staff was accommodating and even played with our kids and talked about life in general. They treated us like family and gained customers for life.
Thank you for being for everything and we will see you soon!
I had a business lunch. Our waiter was nice but not attentive at all. Several times we had to request help from someone else. That is very inconvenient.
The establishment also needs to answer their phone. My office called multiple times before being able to get through.
I will try again and hope they correct these issues.
For as few people in the restaurant, less than 30 on a Sunday night at 6:30, they could not keep our water glasses full not our drink orders correct for a table of 6. Food was good, but small portions for Mexican fare. Besides Mexican dresses on the waitstaff, not much has changed from the old restaurant that occupied the old space. The glade plugins spaced throughout restaurant must be needed to cover up some type of smell but was afraid to ask.
The restaurant was nice the food was great my only complaint is the portion size.
We love good Mexican food, either Tex mex or authentic. This was a very disappointing experience.
Margaritas were terrible, service was ok.
Our usual margarita is on the rocks, which was too sweet.
We switched to frozen and they were too tart.
At $10.00 per drink, it was insulting.
We paid our bill and left a good tip for the waiter.
And no, we did not ask for a to go box!
Not sure which what dish made us sick?
We will not be going back.
This was our first visit to Killen's TMX and we were impressed! The red and green salsas were very good and the food was excellent. Honestly, I imagined that the plates would be served looking too fancy for my likening, but they were not. The service was great also. It is a little more expensive than I would normally pay but for the quality of food one should expect to pay a little more. The house margarita was also very good.
Arrived for a 6p reservation. Restaurant was fairly empty. Waited 20 minutes for drinks and our dinner didn’t arrive until 6:50. Ridiculously long wait for every course. Apparently they were understaffed but the wait ruined the experience. Food was ok. Not the exceptional food I expect from Killens. I had been once before a few months ago and it was great. Don’t know what happened Sunday, but I’m not returning.
The brisket queso and chicken fajitas were awesome as always!!
Food was great. Atmosphere even better. Do not understand the negative reviews. Have been twice perfect every time. Had our family with us and all were impressed
Had a nice time. Food was great as well as service. Will be back
Ordered off the restaurant week menu and my grilled shrimp was still raw.
Had a great time with out of town friends. Guac and brisket queso were awesome to start. I had the fish tacos- amazing flavor! Husband and guests had different combo plates. Everyone was happy!!
I made a reservation for 2 in advance. When I got there, the man at the door somewhat greeted me and I told him I had reservations. He looked confused and unorganized asking for my name. He said he’d check to see if my table was ready. A family of 4 got there after me and he immediately sat them. When I approached him again a few minutes later he again asked me for my name and asked if I had reservations (like he did the 1st time). I was pretty annoyed by then. Aside from that, the tables in the middle are so close together, several waiters and waitresses bumped their thigh on the corner of our table. Ouch, I bet most of them have bruises on their legs because of that! Not sure if I’ll be coming back. When I pay good money for food I expect great service from the very first greeter at the door to everyone after that. Our waiter Alejandro was great which made the experience more enjoyable.
Went for the RestaurantWeeks menu. Great short ribs, excellent appetizers and desserts. Outstanding frozen margarita. Service didn't match. Waitstaff seem too disorganized and maybe overwhelmed. Our drink orders were forgotten and only half-delivered when reminded. Food orders were not complicated, but it usually helps to write them down. Memory didn't work in this case. It took three reminders for the other drink. Entrees appeared almost immediately and well ahead of drinks or appetizers. Multiple people attempted to help, but it was pretty chaotic. A random unordered queso dip appeared--unclear if it was to mollify us or another mistake (it was on the house, and superb!). Weird experience. People were nice, but the basics of taking and delivering orders could use some improvement.
Great! The manager Shane came to our table and we had a nice conversation with him. Our server had only been there a week and had to double check a couple of things but that was fine. We understood he was just learning. He was very friendly and helped us all he could.
Wonderful, broad selections. Full of flavor, unlike most TexMex restaurants in the area. Service was exceptional.
Overall we thought all the food we tried tasted great but was pretty salty. The service was very good and there’s a very large bar area which I can imagine would be ideal for happy hour or waiting on a busy night. However, the restaurant was barely half full and it was SO HOT. Between the salt and the heat we were both feeling pretty miserable and ready to leave by the end of the meal. If I lived closer I would consider giving Killen’s another shot in the future but given the location I plan to stick to the many other great Tex Mex options Houston has to offer.
We enjoyed the HRW's Brunch at Killen's TMX yesterday. It was fabulous! The Brunch entree selections were diverse, however, two of our group stayed with an old favorite: Huevos Rancheros. The salas were fresh and tasty. Service was fantastic!
We love Killen's new concept and especially a Sunday Brunch. We'll be back for certain!!
I love all things Killen’s- but TMX was not the greatest. There is too many places here in Houston to get amazing Mexican food where having generic Tex Mex is not necessary.
Great food at all locations! TMX did not disappoint and stayed with the brand. Will definitely come back again. Their Houston Food Bank Restaurants Week menu offerings were all very tasty!
The enchiladas were very good and the salsa was also good. The tres leches cake was too dense and needed more moisture. The menu prices were just right as we have gone to many Mexican restaurants and were astounded at the price of their enchiladas.
The food was mixed. My table got a large distribution of the Houston Restaurant Weeks Menu, and some was very good while some was very bad.
The empanadas were very good but I'd still go somewhere else to get empanadas. The oysters were very obviously recently frozen, and they were served on ceramic dishes meant to look like oyster shells, which was disappointing and tasted quite bad. The pork belly was tasty but far too fatty.
The enchiladas were quite good, and the short ribs were also very tasty. We were all happy with our entrees.
The desserts were very disappointing, with the tres leches very forgettable, the ice cream in the sundae far too crystallized and flavorless, and the churros passable but also not worth their cost.
The cocktails were generally enjoyable and well made but they're very strong, so drinker beware.
Aside from the food and drink, the service was uneven and slow. There was a server whose only job was to come by to refill water, and he asked us about a dozen times throughout dinner if we wanted more water (when our cups were usually fairly full). Our actual waiter was inattentive and we were frequently waiting on soda refills. The food was slow to come out, and at one point they brought us the leftovers of the party next to us.
I would not recommend this restaurant. Visit original Killen's barbecue, or any number of more reliable tex-mex restaurants around town.
All enjoyed the evening. I knew this going in, a little on the expensive side but Killen is known for that.
Love the food and atmosphere
Everything was excellent. From walking into the door, until leaving from the meal. Excellent service and food. Would highly recommend.
Tex Mex food overpriced for foods’ taste. Brisket tamale was bland. Food isn’t spicy, came out less than warm, we waited over 15 minutes before the waitress came to the table... this was during lunchtime, and it was not crowded, so didn’t understand the reason for the wait, as she was on the floor.
Overall the food was very good. Interesting blend of smoked flavors with Tex Mex. The appetizer corn empanadas were excellent. The combination platters were large. Service seemed a little slow considering it was a Thursday night with the tables not completely full.
Appetizers were fantastic, drinks wonderful, service incredible, the entrees not quite so good, nobody in my table was too impressed. I had camarones a la Diabla and I won’t do it again. I will come back because I think is a nice place to relax over a few drinks and a lot of the wonderful appetizers but dinner, not again.
This was our first time visiting and the food was exceptional, drink service was slow, but our waitstaff was excellent
Plenty of parking in the strip and traffic not bad at all; we arrived early for our 11am reservation and we were allowed to wait by the bar even though the place was technically not open. Coming from El Paso, I consider myself somewhat of a Mexican Food Snob. However, there are no better chilaquiles than those prepared at this restaurant. I had the green sauce and savored every bite. I also had them served with scrambled eggs rather than the standard over easy. While the service was a little on the slow side, I was with a large group and it was a Sunday Brunch so it was nice not to be rushed.
I've been here for brunch several times and it never disappoints. I love the mix of seafood, pastries and fresh fruit with their normal menu offerings. It really reminds me of being served ocean-side at a boutique Mexican resort. I keep going back to their take on an eggs benedict because it's so good (although I missed the jumbo shrimp this time around). Don't skip over the pastries, tamales and grits. The buffet is so full of good options (and I'm picky!) that I normally end up taking the entrée home for dinner.
Made a reservation but it seems doesn’t matter any way, limited Options for cocktails, ribs are good but over priced.
Poor service. Our bar drinks arrived after our meal was served. The food can not be compared with the other Killen’s restaurants. Will not return.
