Tough place to get into but well worth it. Server could not speak clear English but that's always a good sign. Sushi rolls were melt in your mouth great, but Wagu beef was tough and chewy, still flavorful though. An authentic Japanese eatery, it was our second favorite meal out of 5 nights in Vancouver.

Kingyo is one of our favourite spots. Our go-to is the corn and braised Wagyu beef with soy vinaigrette balsamic. Food is always served quickly and fresh/hot. Service is wonderful, everyone is friendly. Nujabes tunes tops it off!

I've visited Kingyo's siblings Suika and Raisu, by far Kingyo has had the best service. The servers were attentive and friendly, and they were visibly hard working. The food was excellent and well worth the price. The Sizzling Seafood Bowl and "DIY" Stone- Grilled Beef Tongue were the highlight of the meal, both unique and balanced in terms of seasoning and various textures. The adventurous nature of the Frozen Green Tea Brulee tied the meal together wonderfully. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience, and would revisit Kingyo in a heartbeat.

I celebrated my birthday at this place, the place I had visited several times before and used to love, but this visit left me disappointed. While I understand that many restaurants are understaffed, the level of service we received was particularly poor. Firstly, we were left unattended for a good 20 minutes before anyone came to check on our table. Secondly, the server never brought us water until asked. It was funny because one of us asked for it, then they brought just one, we had to request more. Additionally, when I asked for a virgin mojito, the server initially said it wasn't possible, and we had to explain to him that it was. It seems like the server doesn't really understand English. Even after that, the full price was charged for the drink. Moreover, we had to ask for a complimentary birthday dessert. I selected "birthday" as an occasion when making the reservation. In previous visits, I never had to ask for it. The dessert itself was also disappointing as it lacked flavor. To make matters worse, we were asked to leave as soon as possible by multiple servers a few minutes earlier than our booked time. They told us the next group is waiting but we did not see anyone waiting for our table. Throughout our time there, we had to make an effort to get the attention of the servers as they were not attentive at all. The only time they came to our table without us trying was when they brought the bill and they wanted us to leave. I ordered duck sushi which was interesting but I don't think I like the texture and seafood cream udon which was decent but nothing really special. It could be improved. I'm not going back for a while. I hope they will improve the service

Outstanding tasty food, can see why it is highly rated. We were visiting from out of town and this restaurant did not disappoint. We tried several foods recommended on yelp and was a cross section from a noodle broth dish to seafood and chicken. Would not hesitate to go back if ever back in Vancouver.

Always excellent and extremely tasty! They wagyu specials all looked incredible though only choose one which was terrific. The corn is our go to favorite and you can’t go wrong with the desserts!

We dined here based on a recommendation from a foodie friend and was she ever right about Kingyo. We loved it! The service was attentive and friendly. Our food was flavorful and served in perfect portion sizes. We ordered the Wagyu beef cooked by us at the table on a hot stone. That was a lot of fun and delicious! The other standout in our order was the Tan-Tan Noodles - the flavor was just incredible (the best of everything we ate). It's a fun neighborhood and a very pleasant 30-minute walk if you're staying in downtown Vancouver (as we were).

Unexpected decent and not very pricey. I have been to many Izakayas and would rate this 4.5/5. Amazing staffs but seats are sure hard to get, better book in advance in any scenarios.

A wonderful Japanese restaurant in the north end of Vancouver. The food is first rate with a wide variety. The sashimi was outstanding. Service was fast and friendly. Prices are more than fair for a restaurant of this quality. We come every time we are in Vancouver and it never disappoints.

Fabulous food, warm and professional service in a beautiful room with a bamboo garden as the centerpiece. People really went out of their way to make our evening memorable. Loved the corn and the tiger prawns as well as the sushi. It was all outstanding.

One of my favorite restaurants in the city. The izakaya classics like Stone Bowl Bibimbap, pressed sushi, tako wasabi and ebi mayo are all very good, what sets them apart for me is their big feature dishes. Try a whole fish or their beef rib!
