Views wonderful. Air conditioning too fierce. Food all right but not special. Service terrible - slow, surly waitresses who ignored us and were overstretched and as we were booked to see the Georgia O'Keefe exhibition we couldn't wait for pudding. Not a welcoming atmosphere especially as I was entertaining guests from Australia. As there was a hefty service charge automatically added I couldn't even not leave a tip.

First time here since the make over. It's not as good as it used to be; the menu is not as good and the service and food was only average. We used to enjoy this restaurant but will be looking for another dining choice the next time we visit Tate Modern.

Very enjoyable visit last Friday for afternoon tea with friends on a gorgeous day! It is a wonderful setting overlooking the Thames and the City of London. The staff were very helpful and put our guests, who arrived ahead of us, at the table and served us quickly since we didn't have much time. A favorite place for a meal while visiting the Tate Modern - we will certainly be back.

Great views make this place, and for that you can forgive them anything. The menu did not have as many light salad dishes as the last time I went, which was a bit of a shame given the weather. The option of wine carafe was still on the menu and much appreciated, and the service was friendly. A fantastic space from which to survey the city.

It's a cafeteria with a great view. We went there because of its proximity to the Globe Theatre and we needed a pre-theatre dinner. We had fish and chips and steak and ale pie, so pub food without the pub setting. It would be a good place for families with young children.

Fabulous fish and chips, friendly service. Good view from the restaurant & pleasant ambiance. But it is all (obviously) very busy and hectic - especially for us country bumpkins - so thank goodness for the quiet screen room on level one for a post meal bit of peace and quiet - a chance to chill out. Thank you, very enjoyable.

This used to be a fabulous bistro style restaurant with one of the best views in London across the river to St Paul's. Unfortunately the Tate have made a decision to downgrade it to a slightly scruffy family affair with a short and uninspiring cafe menu. Probably ok still for afternoon and sunset drinks, but with the bistro feel has gone the sophisticated atmosphere. Own goal to the Tate, sadly.

The food is very good and you can't be the view or the setting. The host and hostess were less than welcoming, but our server more than made up for it. Maybe they were having a bad day?Despite that we had a lovely lunch after a nice tour of this amazing museum.

I went for a salad lunch with a friend as part of a trip to Tate Modern. The salad was excellent and different from the usual lunch fare found in chain restaurants. The table was sufficiently far from the next one and there are good views of the river from many of the seats in the restaurant. The downside is that it is by nature a practical rather than an atmospheric place and the acoustics are poor - you can barely hear the person across the table when it is full.

Unfortunately, since the opening of the new wing at Tate Modern, they have added sofas and bar style tables by the river facing window blocking the view and making the whole dining experience much more noisy. Service has also gone down hill, it took us over 30 minutes for our mains to arrive once we had finished the starters. So whilst the quality of the food was great and staff still super friendly, this restaurant is unfortunately now loud, the view is blocked and waiting times are long.

A convenient location when we want to break an evening visit to Tate Modern. The view to the North is outstanding, but the noise level high. The prices are high and the menu very limited. The treacle tart was to be served cold! They warmed it on request to luke-warm and managed to overcook the pastry. The staff were good and considerate.

The food was ok. We had three meals. The fish and chips unfortunately had a very soggy batter to the fish. The burger was ok. My meal, the sole was very tiny I had 4 or 5 peas on the plate along with the braised lettuce and fish. I was unaware that this was nouveau cuisine. The deserts and cheese were good. The cheese overpriced at £9. The wine wasn't very cold and we had to ask for more ice. The service was good.

Disappointing meal at the Kitchen & Bar at Tate Modern. Many changes since our last visit, unfortunately none of them are improvements. The deep fried squid was overdone, they had run out of chips as a side dish - at 7.15 on a Saturday night and the Eaton Mess had no meringues in it, just lots of cream and a small amount of fruit. The staff were friendly and trying to make the best of it but they were fighting a losing battle against poor food and a very strange seating layout - which meant the fantastic view of the river was obscured by sofas and bar stools. The whole ambience was more railway station buffet than museum restaurant

This is the review I have put on Tripadvisor: What follows is a review of the restaurant on Level 6 of the Boiler House (the original Tate Modern building) not of the new restaurant on Level 9 of the Switch House (the new extension). Reviews of these two different restaurants are getting intermixed in this ‘Tate Modern Restaurant’ thread and it’s very confusing! The Boiler House Level 6 restaurant is now branded as ‘The Kitchen and Bar’. We had a splendid lunch there a couple of days ago. All our food was delicious, and perfectly cooked & presented. The wine list is short and sensible. The service was skilled and smiling – we felt very well looked after. All the prices felt reasonable. The views - to the north over the river and to the south towards the new extension - are stunning. It was altogether a lovely experience - and much, much better than a visit to the Level 6 restaurant had been a couple of years ago. So the re-branding seems like a great success. Two things: 1. At the bottom of the bill it said “Please do not feel obliged to leave a tip. Our prices are inclusive of service charge. Our employees are paid London Living Wage as a minimum.” How wonderful it would be if this sensible way of doing things was to spread more widely! 2. I’m glad we chose to go to the Kitchen and Bar for lunch rather than to the new restaurant in the Switch House. The prices in the new restaurant are wildly more expensive, it’s not very clear from some of the reviews whether you can see out of the windows or not, and on Saturday the lifts were so crowded that it would have been all but impossible to reach Level 9.

The food was excellent: large portions, reasonable London price and great views. The lack of soft furnishings and hard ceiling tiles made conversation difficult: one guest turned her hearing aid off - and the large seating area sounded like a turkey farm!! One major complaint: management keeps the service charge (is not a tip) as well as tips left via credit card!!

Confused venue signage. Got sent round about the complex to find the restaurant. No window tables available although the restaurant was virtually empty. Irritating phone call prior to my booking asking if we would come earlier because we were the last booking. Although my partner is a member we were told different versions of whether we could go direct to members bar prior to members open session to see the Georgia O'Keefe exhibition. Thankfully the exhibition was fascinating. Have been previously to the restaurant when it was an excellent experience but not this time. made to feel as though we were not welcome.

As most people we combined the meal with a visit to Tate Modern, this time to the new extension. The service was friendly and competent, which is about what I would say about the food. Salad starter was served too cold and needed seasoning. Lamb chop was nice but needed vegetables so not that good value. I suppose you pay for the location and the view, which is spectacular. It is a buzzy place with lots of people just in the bar so don't go there for any sort of romantic or special occasion - just if you are in the area or the gallery. And then stick to the fish and chips for value.

I wasn't impressed with the food options. Basic and slightly pricey for what you get. I was disappointed that what was once a nice plush restaurant felt like a cafe of not amazing quality. Service was great though and views amazing. Wish food and seating was better. Won't be going back in a hurry.

The Tate Modern's revamped 6th Floor restaurant does not compare well with its predecessor, although it is still acceptable. The splendid view is ripe for a special occasion restaurant, but this is a glorified version of the ground floor café. Before, people used to compete to get Thames-side reservations. But, in a typically British way, the Tate has resolved this problem by getting rid of all the Thames-side dining tables. Duh. As for the menu, what used to be quite an adventurous menu is now more pedestrian. We tried the quinoa salad and the risotto (asparagus, mint, peas) -- quite OK, but nothing special. The server was really nice, but the poor woman was totally overrun and couldn't possibly keep up, so it was very slow. Noisy, overcrowded, and the one thing has needed fixing ever since the opened the place -- elevator access, remains unsolved. Leave at least 20 minutes to wait for an elevator that you can squeeze on to and expect to ride in the wrong direction before finally getting to the restaurant. Or you might just go to the café on the ground floor -- it's pretty much the same
