Had to reschedule my Saturday, Sept. 16th reservation to Sunday, Sept. 17th. I really did this on the OpenTable app. Showed up to the restaurant on Sunday evening only to find it completely closed. No answer when I called the restaurant, of course. Didn't receive any notifications of any issues before I left for my reservation. We were really looking forward to dining there from all of the great reviews. Not really sure how to feel about this.

I went here for my birthday. The food was amazing. Everyone said their food was great and the service was stellar. The chef/owner came out to greet us. I had the lamb, mashed potatoes and asparagus. I added the Brussel sprout. All was tasty. I think they will outgrown this location soon. Very grown and relaxed. Kudos!

Look when I tell yall this place is extremely unprofessional, please do not say that I did not warn you guys. I was so excited to check out Kitchen Savages after driving by a few times. On Wednesday, July 12th, me and a friend ordered the shrimp po'boy and the crab cake egg rolls along with 2 pink lemon drops. The waitress brought our drinks over and when I tell you the drinks were so miniature that I thought they were shots in oddly shaped martini glasses. I immediately told the waitress that we would like to send the drinks back because they were way to small and overpriced. He agreed and told me he gets that a lot. The manager or owner comes over and asks us way we wanted to send the drinks back and I repeated the same thing I said to the waitress and he said ok and walked off aggressively. Shortly after that encounter, the waitress comes back to our table and says that he doesn't know how to say this without being unprofessional and kneels down to say that the owner wants us to leave the restaurant and they will not be preparing our food because we sent our drinks back. I was so appalled that I chuckled and just grabbed our belongings because that was so out of line and extremely unprofessional. What business owner gets upset that 2 untouched drinks were sent back so he decides to kick us out. I will never support a business like this and im sure there is a long history of other infractions that the owner or manager has done to other customers. I will never patronize this establishment again and Darrell Gaston was extremely disappointing on how he chose to deal with his customers. If I could give negative stars, I would.

This is my second time here and we had a great dinner. As per usual, the food was perfectly cooked. It was so good that my dining companion forgot she was in public and was ooohing and ahhing over each bite of her salmon. Our server was beyond kind and attentive. We were served quickly and each bite was perfection. Every new restaurant goes through growing pains but it’s clear they’ve worked things out and everything is on the upswing.

Appetizers were excellent and the wait staff was extremely proficient and provided excellent service. The downside of the meal was that I was served undercooked shrimp in an Ultimate Cajun Seafood Pasta. Management at the restaurant at first was not helpful and wasn’t willing to redo or replace the entree. Food quality is lax with regards to seafood, so stick to the basics!!! I will not be visiting this restaurant again!

We had a reservation for my birthday and we got there they said they had to close due to their comcast and their system was down. If we had gotten a notification a call or something it would’ve been better a nice heads up before we came all the way down there , it could’ve saved time and everything.

We made reservations to go, drove alllll the way there, only for the venue to be closed for “maintenance.” Why would you allow reservations if you are closed? And if there were last minute issues, why would you not notify the customers?

Plan to wait 2 hours for your food. In addition, this place is classless and unprofessional. You will be doing yourself a disservice coming to this restaurant. Save your money and time and stay in the navy yard area. Managers and owners should not be cussing out the customers nor flipping customer tables. Place lacks ownership. Never trust a business that’s not committed to their values.

I was excited to dine here since it's a new restaurant I had never been to. We were seated immediately (w/reservation) but we waited around 15 minutes to be greeted by our server. The place isn't very big (tables) so I was confused about why it took so long to be greeted. We also waited a while for water, then the straws and then the drink from the bar, every step of dining process was delayed. The server was not very attentive. There was also a 40 minute wait for the first entree with the second coming 30 minutes later after my daughter and my lady had finished their food. The descriptions of the menu items made everything sound phenomenal, however they fell short in terms of quality and preparation. Macaroni & cheese was actually cheese with a side of macaroni. The pasta I ordered was drenched in cheese and grease as well. If you are going to include 18% gratuity in my bill then it comes with a higher expectation of service, presentation and attentiveness and they fell short of that. The food did not taste bad, but it definitely could have been better. The atmosphere, decoration and the opportunity to support a business in the community was the best part of this experience.

I booked for dinner for two on a Monday evening but when we showed up the restaurant was closed? Why would you allow people to book even though you’re not open on Monday ? It also didn’t reflect in Maps. Wasted my time driving to SE DC and trying to find parking smh.

This experience was by far the highlight of my weekend. My entire party ordered the honey-blackened salmon with stuffed crab and the food was amazing. Nice portion, perfect temperature, and absolutely delectable. The best thing about Kitchen Savages is the ambience. Even when the restaurant is full, the energy and effort from the entire staff is positive and engaging.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience, from the host to our server Chevonna and the food presentation, taste and timing. I would suggest to get a great experience try a week night to gain the full experience and vibe only because I’m sure the weekend is in high demand with the wonderful experience we had. The service was amazing from the moment I walked in the door from hostess to bartender to wait staff and basically everyone. Shavon provided some great recommendations. We had drinks, appetizers, meal and dessert. The food is so delicious and portions are plentiful.

My wife and I were seated. Not approached by a soul for so much as a glass of water for 40 minutes. Left the restaurant hungrier than when we arrived, without having had an opportunity to order anything, whatsoever. It's not clear to us whether the servers were at all aware of our presence in the establishment. Deeply disappointed.

I checked Kitchen Savages out on a Saturday around 3:30. I was able to get a table with no wait. My waitress was great with giving recommendations, i.e. get the catfish fried hard. My order consist of mumbo and honey garlic wings, catfish and grits and the seafood egg roll. The wings are on point. It had an extra crunch even with the sauce. The catfish fried hard was well seasoned. The grits were good but stiff. The dish needs a cream sauce to help lubricant the dish. Good flavors just the two together makes for a dry dish. Overall my experience was great until I came back Monday with 4 others. Opening hours said 11. We got there at 11:15 and the place was dark with no employees in sight. Went a few business down to kill time and they said Savages never open consistently on time. We went back at 12 and they were still closed. Recommendation: just change the opening time to a later time that works. Don’t waste customer’s time and gas.

The food was good, some people were not satisfied with the taste of their food and that could be from their own experience with the dish. Macaroni and cheese needed concentrated milk- it was too thick, Lamb-chops were excellent and so was the salmon. Drinks were great. Need a bigger seating area, really compact coming in and no area for waiting. Service was great.

This was our monthly girls night experience. We enjoyed ourselves as usual, however the experience at Savage was not one of our favorites. We will return but feel we need to give it more time to grow and blossom into its fullest potential. The parking completely sucked but the light in that scenario was a little lady not to far from the restaurant told me where I could be safe parking my vehicle, and I was definitely that! The food appetizers were mediocre at best but definitely over priced. We spent $146 on happy hour appetizers that was 2 orders of 5 wing dings, 4 drinks and crab egg rolls. This was on the happy hour menu… so we were completely surprised when the bill was more than $100.

I made reservations for my daughter and friends at Kitchen Savages to celebrate her Birthday. From the time they arrived until the time they left she was sending text messages to say how much she loved it. She plans to submit her own review to give specific details about her wonderful experience, including photos. However, I wanted to use the space and time to highlight my AMAZING experiences when speaking with the Staff to make special requests all the way from the West Coast via telephone. The Managers I spoke with the day before and then the day of the reservations were so attentive, patient with me and thoughtful when coming up with additional suggestions to make this a special night for my daughter. My daughter and her friends not only left with a wonderful experience, but so excited to have leftovers to enjoy later at their dorms (HU .. You Know!) because they said the servings were not small. Lastly, I have to share that I researched too many restaurants to remember before making this reservation and when I saw the inspiration behind Kitchen Savages I knew I found the perfect one … my daughter’s smile with her Birthday Banana Pudding Cheesecake confirmed that! I look forward to making another reservation here during my visit to DC in April!
