Nice live jazz/blues and casual Asian style food. Friendly service in an intimate setting. I understand that there are other live music, comedy, and poetry evenings on a regular basis.
Good but food was slow to arrive. Overall a good experience
Great ambience and food as always. :)
Made reservations for Christmas Eve. Received a confirming email as well as an email request I reconfirm.
Arrived at Koi's right on time. They were closed. Ever tried to find an alternate oh Christmas eve on short notice? Thanks a lot from me, my family and our guest. Never again.
This place is your quintessential hidden gem. Try the kim chi fried rice and for sure the ginger beef. Not your traditional in the least. Soooooo good!
So ive been to koi 2 times in total and completely loved it. The food was above average and the service on point. The open mic that they host is amazing. Everyone should go check out the fine mix of artists jams. But reseve a spot because she fills up quick! I'll be back again for sure!
Met up with an old friend for a long lunch enhanced with delicious, fresh food & wonderful service. Koi was everything I remember from my last few visits, excellent!
Live music is also awesome!!
I love going here for lunch. The service is great. The food is tasty and it always comes out hot. Definitely recommend
The server was very friendly and efficient. The appetizers were good. However, the main courses were, at best, very ordinary. Having eaten at Koi over a number years, we have seen a deterioration of the food recently. The main courses lacked any zest or significant flavour. It was very disappointing to see a “good eat” go bland. We have eaten better curry out of a can at home. Furthermore, the dishes were very over-priced for so little creativity.
We were there on Monday night of this week with a vegan friend visiting from Toronto. The food was excellent. I had the curry bowl, as did she....and the chocolate dessert (vegan) was phenomenal. Excellent service from a friendly and engaging young woman. As my husband has a hearing loss, we appreciated that the music had been cancelled that night, and we were able to have a conversation easily. This kind of environment (a restaurant for hearing impaired individuals) is very difficult to find in Calgary.
Excellent food, vibrant atmosphere, service was very friendly although not on point.
Live music was great! Our meals were delicious and the staff was very professional.
i hadn't been back to Koi for a few years, but use to go regularly. i was disappointed to see the menu had changed, it's much smaller than it use to be. despite that we still had a great experience, friendly server, huge portions, the food was accommodating to a vegan and gluten free diet and very reasonably priced. overall a good experience, despite the much missed old menu.
Amazing all around, always something new, super friendly staff, 10/10 would recommend
The Vegetarian selection was great. What I did not enjoy was the Open Mike. It was a disappointment as the level of talent was not very good. I was visiting from Vancouver, B.C. and was out with a friend for a vegetarian meal which was excellent. I would highly recommend the food for quality and healthy. Definitely a good alternative to have a non meat meal.
Little quirky gem of a restaurant and live music venue.
Kim chi fried rice was fine, but i can get something better tasting for nearly half the price 10 blocks north in Chinatown
Service was good. Friendly and attentive
It is always a challenge for the carnivores in our family to accommodate that one Vegan. And this place ticked off all the boxes for her. The food as very tasty, nice presentation, and filled up meat eaters and vegans alike. She was so excited that there is an actual desert for vegans which she enjoyed. The service was friendly and informative. It is a small setting so I am not sure how noisy it could be?
We loved the absolutely delicious ginger beef and flavorful chicken curry. Great right-level-of-attentiveness service. The live music was amazing. What a great little spot supporting local talent. We had a great night!!
Food was a bit interesting and would not recommend the cocktails. Ambiance was good and upbeat.
Always reliable in serving tasty, well prepared & presented Asian-fusion cuisine. It seems that they always have new servers, so that part of the experience can vary greatly from one visit to the next.
The food was great. Only one person serving the entire restaurant t so they weren't as attentive as we would have liked. Food came out quick and was delicious. It was disappointing to learn upon arrival that the jazz band cancelled and no other entertainment was offered.
Came here with a friend who has a lot of dietary restrictions and we had no trouble finding food that worked for both of us. Everything came out hot and was delicious! Service was originally very attentive, but became less and less as it got busier. Understandable since there weren't many staff working and it was quite packed. Regardless, I would still recommend this place and will definitely be going back again!
We had a very nice, leisurely lunch. They accommodated the 2 Vegans in our group. Food was delicious!
Offers up live music from local talent - great place to listen and try wonderful food.
Service fantastic, food decent sized share plates. Very tasty. Will be back.
My husband & I have always wanted to check out Café Koi’s live music & made a date to go for the Ben Ivenstein Trio performance- which was excellent, as was the service/ambiance/food & beverage = we’ll come again! *highly recommend*
Great food, great service! I have been many times, and will continue many times into the future.
We really enjoyed the meal, however, it took us quite awhile to get our lunch. That was the only drawback as we only have an hour for lunch.
Food was decent, but nowhere near the quality I'd expect for the price.
I came to see local Jazz band that was performing- the Dennis Kwok Quartet. They were wonderful and the food was good too.
Much better. We got there and our table was ready. The server was very attentive. They changed the menu and it is significantly better than the old one. Good combinations and flavours. Will return.
Food is really delicious, but often find it takes awhile to come out. Whether that's the server or the kitchen I don't know. Worth the wait though, so tasty!!
Café Koi has excellent food and we usually come in the evening which is great. This time we came for lunch and it took 60 minutes for our food. Not acceptable for a business lunch as we need to get in and out in about 50 minutes (max). The bottleneck was the kitchen. Great food but need to find a way to handle lunch crowd faster.
Great selection of dishes with lots of choice for vegetarian clients.
Reasonably fast for lunchtime service
Definitely will go back and will recommend to others
Have been going to Koi for many years, but not recently. The food was extremely poor compared to the previous menu. My wife had to dig through mounds of cheap greenery to find tastier items, and I had the Vietnamese sub which was woeful; poor white bun, not fresh, with very little filling.
We went for the music, but will certainly not be coming again if this is the new standard of fare.
We got there and they did not have our reservation ready. Lucky there was a table available. The attitude about it was “oh well...”. Not impressed. Food was good. They change their menu and the new one is better. Service the rest of the evening was ok. The draw is the live music. In the past we have been better served.
They changed the menu with the change in ownership. I preferred the previous menu.
Try the kimchee bowl!!
