The server did not know anything about the menu and did not look up any reservation notes I said. It was my dads birthday and I mentioned that but he did nothing. Poor service. He messed up our order as well.
Will not come again. Meanwhile, there was only one other party in the restaurant at the time.
Absolutely amazing food and drinks! Celebrated my birthday here and despite the small size of the venue, the servers managed to seat all of us at the same table. Incredibly grateful to all the servers for putting so much extra effort into making this a special night for us.
The place did seem understaffed though, which is perhaps more of a note for the owners rather than a comment on the quality of service (which was brilliant!).
The live music was varied and interesting, would definitely go back to see other local artists perform there.
We are beyond disappointed. It appeared that our server was inexperienced. He wanted to take the food order almost immediately before offering us a cocktail. We ordered 2 appetizers and 2 mains. After a reasonable time 1 main (rice bowl)arrived. Server told us that the other main would be right up in 60 seconds. Said the appetizers would be along in a few minutes. Some time after I’d finished my rice bowl the second main arrived. The server indicated the appetizers were coming and offered them at no charge. We refused as we were extremely dismayed with the entire experience.
The rice bowl with tofu was marginal. The ramen did not measure up to our homemade version. Turnips ice cold. Maybe supposed to be?
Worst meal experience in recent memory.
Love the food. It is fresh, flavourful and eye catching - great flavours and the value is good. Highly recommend the cauliflower rice with the curry bowls. :)
Good food and service but unfortunately we were unaware of live music performance which made it too loud to converse
I like eating at Koi because there are plenty of healthy options as I am a pescatarian that eats dairy and gluten free. The service is always quite good. I had a rice plate with veggies and salmon. The salmon was cooked perfectly - I only wish there was more of it.
We enjoyed the great food and the live music at Koi! There were options for vegans, vegetarians as well as meat-eaters so there was something for every person in our group.
The vibe was really cool, and the music was definitely worth seeing. Koi had nice employees and great drinks. The only problem: We ordered the Banh Mi and the cilantro was used like how lettuce should be. It totally ruined the sandwich and we couldn’t finish it. The ginger tofu, Yams, and Curry were amazing though.
Well priced menu with all entries lower than $20. Excellent curry bowls. Fast friendly service.
Koi was great. The noodle bowl was extremely spicy (runny nose spicy) but the menu did not indicate that there was any spice in the dish, although the noodle bowl did seem to be doused in chili flakes. A guest of mine was not able to handle that level of spice, so she was unable to eat the dish. The chef’s recommendation was to put sugar on the dish to offset the spice... a recommendation for your menu would be to indicate what dishes are and are not spicy, and those that do not like spice will not order it.
We went early no music etc, the food was not worth the visit but would be great if they had good band etc
We had a wonderful evening, with good food, live entertainment and a pleasant atmosphere.
Unfortunately Koi did not have our reservation, arranged through the OpenTable app, and were lucky a single small table was available only inches away from the band. We were so close my date had to move back to make space for the trombone.
That aside, we had a very positive experience.
Wait staff were short handed and they handled it very well. Unfortunately venue is very noisy and had bad acoustics for both conversation and the love music.
i really enjoy the food and ambience. A favourite place for a meal with someone I want to spend some time talking to.
I would recommend based on the delicious food, however the service, not so much. Waited on drinks, waited on food. Very small venue for very big evenings, entertainment wise.
We *love* Koi! One of our favourite places for vegan nosh.
The live music was great, food was good, and the service was on point without being overwhelming.
Came to Koi for the open mic night and were not disappointed! We have some incredible talent in this city and great to see it in such an intimate environment.
This was a great intimate venue to appreciate jazz music. The service was very slow but the cocktails were delicious so it made up for the long wait. The portions of appetizers were smaller than expected but the entre was a decent size. I would definitely come back to see another show!
Food was average. Our server was fairly new, but she acted as a “food taxi” we had to constantly catch her attention for drinks (did not offer refills), sauce, etc. That’s why I gave it one star.
There was live music, but the place is so small and the music was uncomfortably loud.
We went to the restaurant for dinner and to hear the music. The service was great, the food was tasty and the ambiance was very nice. The classical guitar music presented by the Classical Guitar Society of Calgary was exquisite. Thanks Kat, Eri and Stephen for your great performances.
Never disappointed with the food or the service!
Great service, good food and nice live entertainment. We’d go back next time we’re in town.
Small restaurant but value and taste was outstanding.
Great place. Food and service were wonderful. The music was fabulous! Would go back again to hear Katherine Fischer!
Thank you for the great review Carol! Would love to have you back again!
We visited during one of their open mics, and it was a very nice event with a strong sense of community, where you felt welcome. The food was delicious and they have an excellent cocktail selection.
So glad that you enjoyed our weekly open mic! As one of the longest running open mics in town, the community is thick and we want everyone to be apart! Come back again!
We were there on a Saturday evening before the live music starts, to celebrate a family birthday. We chose Koi for their vegan options and it did not disappoint. Food was delicious, cocktails were amazing (I'm glad I indulged instead of sticking with my usual wine!) The ambiance was intimate and kind of cool, and our server was knowledgable and fun. We'll definitely go back - highly recommended!
We are so glad that you enjoyed your experience at Koi, Karen! Would love to have you back anytime!
The best party in your mouth flavours. Reasonable portions but the flavours were outstanding. Awesome vegetarian options. Kudos to Olivia our amazing server as well. She was a true delight and happily took our photos when we asked. We were heading out to see Oprah that evening and Koi was an awesome place to be pre Oprah. Definitely will be back. Thanks so much.
Koi has excellent food and is a small hip gem downtown. The service is EXCELLENT!!
They have different musicians, bands and artists regularly and they are providing a venue for these burgeoning artists.
It’s small, loud, hip and delicious with awesome servers.
Delicious and diverse menu! Great pricing and atmosphere here.
I love koi, the people the shows, the food, the drinks, the staff, the atmosphere! what great vibe ! I was going to go alone but I found 5 friends to come with me and they had a great time! no regrets! 10/10 will go again
It was our first time here and we enjoyed the relaxed feel. We liked that parking wasn’t difficult for us to find considering it’s downtown. The food was alright, to be honest it was quite salty. We had the koi salad with candied cashews, springrolls, ginger beef and vegan burger. The burger was enjoyable but everything else was unfortunately too salty for our liking. The entertainment for the night came off pretty loud. The saltiness could’ve just been a one night thing or just us being sensitive to salt...Overall very nice place with friendly staff.
Amazing food. I had the, best ever, chicken curry rice dish. Drinks were excellent, as well. The best part was the top notch jazz group that was performing. The "Sean Croal Group" played 2 hours of 'Miles Davis' related tunes. The volume was perfect, the anecdotes were simple and informative and the musical quality was excellent. I have been to Koi at least 8 times and will keep coming back. It's too bad the servers are always run off their feet, though they do try their best.
Food was okay, one of the dishes is very salty.
Not up to par of what I expected based on the rating.
But the vegetarian/vegan options are nice.
Great with Indy YYC event for entertainment
Excellent food, service, atmosphere and music! It's awesome that even on a Monday you can enjoy live events.
Food just ok. There was live music which would have been fine but it was way too loud.
Fantastic evening. Great live music. A perfect package and a memorable evening.
We went to Koi for a night of live music! It was fantastic. Perfect intimate setting, great service by all staff. Drinks and Food prices are on the higher side, portions were small so be prepared, but the service made up for cost of product.
Live speakers and musicians were amazing. Great concept, welcoming environment for all.
Crowded and somewhat chaotic atmosphere. Live music (Jim Hutchison) was amateurish and too loud. There were two errors on the bill (in our favour). All clients had to leave by 9:00 to prepare for the layer show. Food was OK, but somewhat bland.
