The Kolkata Club was born out of nostalgia: our memories of going to the clubs with our parents when we were children, and then ourselves as adults; lazy conversations over a cup of tea or a drink at the bar, the comfort of meeting the same people regularly, and a menu that we had almost memorized.
From appetizers through to dessert, everything was delicious. The Kolkata Mule is a tasty twist on this cocktail classic - warning, they go down real smooth... The Lusani Cauliflower is our go-to appetizer, but so is the the Jalebi Chat (and the way it's presented is a feast for the eyes). Smokey Butter Chicken, mmmm. Service was outstanding!
Please keep the decibels low for the live music and singers.. too too loud for the small size space.
We booked table for valentine's Day. Live music was bit too loud and not impressive. Secondly the service was bad the waiter was pushing hard for ordering all food at once perhaps wanted to have more rotation on busy day like valentine's, but it ruined our evening experience. 2 stars for the food which was quite good
The food & ambience was great but the service was terrible. This place is understaffed in waiting service & kitchen personnel. This restaurant will require an overhaul in their hospitality department before it gets a referral in my books.
We arrived for our reservations at 7 and ordered shortly after. We told the waiter that we had nut allergies and asked for options on the food. We were asked to order the balti chicken and fish curry with naan along with a few appetizers. An hour later we got one appetizer and apologies for the late arrival. We noticed that other tables were also finally getting their food. The waiter kept telling us “he’s got us” and then we noticed him yelling at the chefs through the window. 15 mins later the waiter tells us both the chicken and fish have nuts and he can give us some lamb if we want. Now 1.5 after we arrived we were told he couldn’t tell what was in the food and we had no choice but to leave after our night was ruined. No apologies, no discussion with the manager or chef, just a poor girl (not the original waiter) sent to collect payment for the drinks and appetizer. This place has terrible service and I would avoid at all costs if you care about that.
Great food, compliments to the chef. We loved everything we ate. The issue is service, you have good staff but their lack of training is very obvious. The restaurant needs to be run in a more organized manner.
This is a must-try restaurant if you are craving Indian foods and more so if you are looking for a flavour of Kolkata foods! You have to try their Club's Special Veg Platter, it is amazing and totally worth the price. All their dishes are well balanced in terms of the spices; I could taste all the spices without one flavour dominating over the others. Special thanks to our server Kunal and chefs Madan and Sharma for making our first visit there a memorable one. I will definitely be visiting this place frequently and would encourage you to give this place a shot if you havent done so already; you wont be disappointed.
Restaurant was closed on day of reservation with no communication from the restaurant or Open table.
Arrived at this restaurant with 4 friends for a birthday celebration! I was thoroughly impressed and pleasantly surprised by the lovely decor and fresh food! Needless to say, food was delicious! Recommendations: crispy cauliflower, tikka masala and garlic naan! All of those dishes were big hits with the whole group! Definitely a place that non-Indians and Indians will appreciate because of the luxe decor and authentic taste!
The waitresses were extremely attentive (kept promptly checking in to clear dishes, place additional items and refill water). We arrived with a cake & candles. They were kind enough to allow us to do so and they even brought out the cake perfectly lit at the end of the meal. We spent quite some time there and did not feel rushed at all.
We went on Sunday evening - maybe 4 other groups were there. Bollywood music was playing (not overly loud) and noise level was conversation-like!
Great find! Surprised I haven’t been inside before as I’m quite a foodie. Will definitely revisit!
Extra money was charged on our bill. I paid my bill and realized later before we left and asked my server about that. The attitude of the server was not good.
Delicious as always! The cauliflower and the Jalebi Chat appetizers were excellent. The smokey butter chicken is so good! The Kolkata Mule - awesome!
PS - the menus were all brand new and are now leather bound and laminated.
flies everywhere ... and small insects flying everywhere when we mentioned to the server she smiled didn't apologize or offered discount . The food was good but for the value $$$$ we paid for special occasion moms 59th bday .. mood & ambience was just spoiled. We couldn't focus on food they need to do somthing about that esp if we are paying $240 bill and it is considered fine dining.
The wine list was outdated so none of the wines listed were available. Finally got a bottle of white that was not on the list, but came at room temperature- not chilled. Food was great and staff was friendly.
Menus - the physical menus were disgusting. There was dried food and stains all over them. Made you wonder how clean rest of dinner service would be. The tasting menu options was simply crossed out with a pen.
Drinks - ok. Bartender was new and making the drinks from a recipe card. They were unable to offer a few drinks of their menu.
Food - decent quality. Non veg tandoori platter was good aside from the fish which was dry. Good veggie options
Dessert - Ramali were standard grocery stores one. Nothing special and price was jacked up.
Tip- was included in the bill. This was not written anywhere in the menu.
Overall, for the amount they charge one would expect more upscale. Totally not the case. Likely will not return.
Went there on my wedding anniversary dinner with special recommendation from friends. THERE WAS A FLY IN OUR WATER. Was disappointed, the food was not good at all, neither the apps nor the main course. Both me and my wife had terrible stomach upset after the food to go with the negatives. The Paneer app was full of salt so they removed it from the bill but other than that nothing else for the fly in the water at the start of the dinner, it ruined our hunger and we wanted to leave but since we had a small baby and no other reservation , we had no choice but to sit for rest of the food. There are other Amazon Indian restaurants so better go there..
Vegetarian food is delicious. Flavourful and not too spicy. Great interiors, intimate seating. Great for family setting
1. Lighting is poor
2. Did not like the seating, despite reservation they did not allocate a better table to us despite the restaurant being empty.
3. Fly was hovering around the table.
4. Menu card was dirty and many items on the menu was not available as a selection.
Excellent, flavorful and unique Indian food. Great ambiance and really good service.
The mutton sheesh kabab, veggie tikka masala and mishti pulao were all outstanding!
The club works on ambiance and tried to make the visitors feel that they in a special place. However, the food was a complete let down. Too spicy, and of poor quality. Service was very good, but again, not enough to make up for the poor quality of food.
Use much better quality ingredients, fresher meat and vegetable and perhaps invest in a better cook. We may come back, but certainly not right away. Sorry about that ...
Excellent food and service, would recommend a little less sodium to be used. Beautiful decor and will definitely go back to try out some more off the menu.
When we initially visited this restaurant in late 2018 it was outstanding- we recommended it to everyone. And then we had the worst experience on NYE - we didn’t get our food - and waited a while before we went back. The food is still above that of other Indian restaurants in the GTA but the service and overall experience is now really bad. It is disappointing as this was a very good place to dine.
Invited guests for a family birthday dinner. Visited exactly after 1 year.
Good: Somewhat good food! This is what matters right? Fish fingers here is totally not what people from Kolkata are familiar with. I expected a finger roll with mustard dip.
Bad: Very poor service
Flies - too many flies!! There are simple soap & vinegar solutions which actually work. Try them.
Dirty Menu’s - guys I’m sure they can be cleaned! Food stains on menu’s? You’re charging premium prices so the experience should be somewhat premium, no?
Waitress have no idea about the food items.
Poor service generally - dirty dishes removed nearly 20 minutes after we finished. No one came by to ask if we needed anything. Before guests arrived, I briefed the waitress about the event and to bring a candle etc...when it was time, she was clueless about what I was saying.
Guys I think the management and staff need to visit some local restaurants to learn how servers do their job.
Overall - poor job!! Will never risk again with guests, maybe to check it out individually after some time.
One request change the name...Club culture in Kolkata is far more eloquent..you’re ruining the name of a City!!
Beautiful spot with a stunning ambience. Decor totally current and in trend. Our waiter was very very pleasant and even treated us with a free round once he found out it was our anniversary. Only one negative was the chili chicken was on the salty side, but other than that everything else was perfect! Highly recommend!
Quality is good but taste ok and quantity small. For example, butter chicken that costs 18 dollars only good for 2 people. Bangali Bhirayni best dish - also portion small.
Had to call the server several times to help us. All were helpful but did not come often to check or even ask for drinks. Service charge was 18% given we were 6 persons and based on that service was poor to fair.
North Indian food, not Kolkata food. Please do not get misled by the name Kolkata in it. Their "Kolkata" dishes tasted nothing like how they should.
The food was fantastic, however the service left more to be desired. We ordered a bottle of wine that we had to ask for , twice ..and they just left the bottle on the table without uncorking it or serving it.
Loved the food and the place. The puchka shots was the highlight...the food was great, portion size quite good...went for my wife’s birthday and the let us bring a cake from outside and also gave us a free dessert. Definitely would recommend this place and go back again.
We took family there for dinner and they loved it. A 50th birthday party was about to start though so the music got really loud and we felt a bit rushed out the door. But the food was wonderful as was the service.
Made an actual reservation online, went to the restaurant to be told that they were full and there was a 45 minute wait time!!! Ridiculously unprofessional-don’t allow online reservations then
Great food, good presentation & good quantity with pleasant ambience.
We were there to celebrate a bday, the server was amazing, very friendly. The food was top notch and ambience and music were great as well. We thoroughly enjoyed our time, highly recommended.
A tad too dark with lighting being dim, made it hard to read the menu and even see what we are eating. Other than that, everything else was great.
Not the best experience
Based on the pictures and menu descriptions this place seems upscale and unique. But it is very average. The value is not worth it at all. Staff is very kind and helpful but that is not worth $125 for 2 people for a very average meal and one drink each.
It’s not bad but this comes off as a modern Indian fusion sort of place - but it is very average Indian food. Did not have any cocktails so can’t comment on that, but I was charged extra for gingerale after ordering a vodka gingerale- places that get greedy usually go out of business because people take notice and get turned off by it. I will not be returning. Would not recommend.
It was my sisters Birthday!! Average experience !!
Poor service, poor quality food, high cost, high noise levels. Spoiling the name of the iconic city used to name the restaurant after.
Ordered Lamp chops but it wasn't the same as usual at all.. Not worth the money!
Went for a birthday dinner. Felt that the tables might have been a bit too small for a party of four. The servers were quite gracious and accommodating, the live music was a good touch however a tad bit too loud at times. The food was good, the portions were reasonable and the prices were fair. Some of the curries are a bit hit or miss, however I would most definitely recommend the salmon fish tandoori appetizer which was quite delicious! Overall, a decent restaurant!
Amazing Food and amazing customer service. The staff was well trained.
