We appreciated the ambiance, look and feel of Kona. It was clean and looked like a fun place to eat for a Saturday night. Our server, Taylor, took our drink order (a margarita and a hard cider) and we received a beer and a seltzer. We hoped this was not a sign of bad things to come. Taylor told us “we add an automatic 20% gratuity to all large tables”. We had 4 adults and 1 child in our reservation, so I am not sure this is a large table. (When did 5 people become too many for a server to handle?) The food was just good. We ordered appetizers (potstickers, chicken satay, checkerboard sushi) and the food tasted ok. As we were there, it kept getting louder and louder and louder in the restaurant and uncomfortably so during times. We had to remind our server to bring us silverware (there was no silverware on our table) and it took forever to get drinks and everything seemed slow. We did order main entrees and they were all ok for taste but way overpriced and yes we got the mandatory 20% gratuity added to the bill. I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone because the food was not something uniquely different and the service didn’t warrant the 20% gratuity added for every table. (unless you can explain how under 6 people is a big table?). Service was slow and wrong for many items, and it was unnecessarily loud.

Sat at a high top near the bar. We had barely taken our coats off and the server was asking us what we wanted and then acted annoyed when we needed some more time. Impatient. Disingenuous. Gave no introduction or recommendations. Acted hurried and disconnected. The food was good but so expensive for the mediocre atmosphere and poor service. The cocktails were not well balanced or garnished proper and at $14 a pop… bartenders better have some skills! We will think twice about returning.

Nice restaurant, great decor. sound was loud in a 2 table alcove. Great service from Theresa, and good cocktails, but... not a great value for the food for the rather high price. The Avocado roll for an appetizer was bland, and it was one roll only (cut in half and in half again). The entree sushi roll with crab and lobster was good (8 pieces) but nothing transcendental. Probably the best value for the price. The sea bass for almost 40 bucks was a little piece of frozen fish on a bed (king size mattress 😉) of boiled bokchoi (cheapest cabbage there is) with next to no sauce on the bottom of the plate. No orher side, or rice side dish. Felt too little and basic. The additional $5 for a side salad was overpriced. The glass of pinot noir The Seeker was meh (for $11) The expresso was lukewarm, seved without a lemon twist or sugar, and a big teaspoon that was too big to even fit into the cup!! The only redemption was the ginormous carrot 🥕 cake that was very delicious with caramel drizzle and fresh walnuts 😋 Not sure about the feel and the experience on the outdoor patio in the summer , might try it then 🤔

Our waitress was fantastic and the restaurant is beautiful. But the food was not very good, especially for the price. the chicken dinner was bad. Dry and flavorless. The mashed potatoes were cold as well as the french fries. The sushi was so so.

We went for my birthday and it happened to be restaurant week. We ordered from that menu and I was more than impressed. I’ve been to Kona many times for sushi and happy hours but I never had a steak at Kona before. It was cooked perfectly and everything we had was so good! Probably the best cheesecake I’ve ever had. Our server was great. She had a great personality and visited our table the perfect amount of times.

We showed up and we’re seated right away. The restaurant was visibly crowded and we waited a few minutes for our server to arrive. After placing our drink orders we were told that the restaurant is very busy so we should place our orders quickly. We ordered off the restaurant week menu- appetizers, entree and dessert. We ordered and waited 10 more minutes for our drinks to arrive. The wine and Moscow mule was good. The margarita flights were a disaster. 6 random flavors, when we asked what they were she said she wasn’t sure and it didn’t matter. They were slush with a shot of flavored syrup. Within minutes our appetizers arrived. First bites were okay. Salad had way too much dressing… poke bowl, sushi roll and meatballs were good. We didn’t even get a bite in before our entrees and the real disappointment started. Chili glazed salmon was crispy, and chewy the inside was good, and you could tell it has good flavor but it was over cooked. The filet was supposed to be prepared med-rare. It came out well done. When we cut into it, clearly one side had been cooked too long, one side was very well done, the other side medium well. The prime rib was okay, very thin and not rare as ordered. We didn’t see our server for quite a while. Appetizers and entrees were almost done before we came back to check on us. She cleared our plates we ordered new drinks and waited for our desserts. By this time the restaurant had cleared out, we had been there just over an hour. Our desserts and drinks came out 10 /15 minutes later- we were about to ask for the check when the arrived. Brownie was surprisingly good and quite big, the cheesecake tasted mediocre. Our evening wrapped up the server announcing that our credit cards were declined after trying many time. We gave new cards and after trying again she came back and told us probably not the cards, the internet was down. Waited for the internet to start back up and our waitress to come back and rerun our cards. Not impressed.

It’s weird that you butterfly a 7 oz filet that I ordered MR, which caused it to come out medium and quickly cook up to MW on the plate. Also, your patio tables are disgusting. The food and slime in between the slats made me gag, seriously. Have your folks do some deep cleaning, your restaurant is pretty dirty.

The server did not inform us that there was peanut sauce on a dish and my husband had a allergic reaction. Also we sat near a door that was not supposed to be used as an exit, however people kept opening it and a blast of cold air would hit us every ten minutes throughout the meal. The food came out promptly however the dessert took a long time, which was frustrating because by that point my husband was panicked and so he left before us to go get some Benadryl. Not a fun experience.

Asked for a booth in the reservation, but Open Table doesn't pass tjat on very well, got a table near a cold patio door. Lot of booths available. Staff brought wrong wine. Meatballs crispy, rice too. Neither should have been. Well, dessert was good. Every course was rushed to us. I wish staff wouldn't have used patio door to have the room warmer. Didn't even get a 'thanks for coming' as we left.

We have been going to Kona for years and have always loved this place. I am sad to say for the second time in the past month, the food quality did not meet expectations. We us d to go to Kona 2-3 times a month but have noticed the past 2 years the prices have gone up, food amount and quality has gone down and service can be hit or miss. The happy hour options are no longer is great either so we no longer swing in for a few apps and cocktails like we used to. I hope this place improves so we can keep enjoying it for years to come.

Overall a good experience. This was our first time here and have been wanting to check it out for awhile. I ordered the Sea Bass…what a disappointment for $38. If we wouldn’t have ordered appetizers, I would have left starving. Served on a bed on Bok Choy, the Sea Bass was the size of 2 bites…literally. Sides are an extra $5-$9…ridiculous. Overall food was great but so would ask about portion size before you order so your not surprised when a 2oz meal shows up.

Had reservations for 8:15pm, showed up on time and checked in right away and had to watch them seat 5 other parties before us. After mentioning something to the host, the said they were waiting for a table to be ready. They finally sat us down after a 15 minute wait at a table that had clearly been clean and ready since we arrived by a hostess that didn’t say anything and gave us a dirty look as she sat us, still not sure what that was all about. We came for the date night menu, but we’re informed that they’re not serving that because of Valentine’s Day, but when you look at the date night menu it says nothing about being unavailable on that day, just that it is only available Sunday-Wednesday, and we attended on a Tuesday so there is no reason we should have been denied that menu. Some of the food was really good, but our steak was nearly 50% fat and the mashed potatoes came out cold and firm. Several of our dishes came out with missing items, like how the mashed potatoes were supposed to come with island butter and the steak was supposed to come with crispy onion strings and the sushi was supposed to come with cucumber salad. None of those things were included and I had ask our waitress for several things throughout our date that should have been included from the start. It caused my girlfriend and I to feel very uncomfortable, like we were a bother but luckily our waitress was attentive and did everything she could to rectify. The experience as a whole was really unenjoyable and in some ways ruined our Valentine’s Date. This was our second time eating here, but after yesterday’s experience I highly doubt we will ever come here again. With the prices they charge, you’re better off going somewhere else because the customer service here was pitiful!

Kona Grill - MinnetonkaResponded on February 26, 2023We appreciate you bringing your concerns to our attention and we sincerely apologize that it did not meet expectations. Extremely disappointed by Kona Grill. We ordered two main salads and one sushi roll (3 people). Both salads were simply made with about 2-3 cups lettuce and about 1/4 c. Total other ingredients. My salad didn’t even look like a chopped salad. When we questioned the waitress-she acted like we were bothering her. She actually acted like waiting on us was an issue. We had said we were celebrating someone’s birthday in our reservation, and no one even mentioned it or asked if we wanted to order a dessert. I will not be returning. For the price of salads, definitely not up to par. Not a good lunch or experience. Would not recommend.

Cracks between table top slats were full of old food scraps. Food was very good. Prices were high. Menu said beef short ribs. I expected more than two for the description and $38. One was meaty and one not so much. Add on salad was excellent. Menu said roasted vegetables. I got only green beans, but maybe they meant more than one green bean. But the beans were excellent. One small scoop of mashed potatoes and very plain. Dessert was vanilla ice cream and butter cake. It was good, but small and $14. Server seemed inexperienced and shy. My wife's macadamia nut chicken dish was very good, but $29 for chicken. Any complaints i may have could be easily improved upon by kona grill. How about a maybe option on if i'd recommend kona grill. The only caveat i'd have is price and food quantity. I think they can do better than $142 for two people with two drinks, two entrees, a side salad and edamame, and one dessert to share. And that was with just a 15% tip. And why can't they have pictures of menu dishes? At least online where space isn't an issue. Perkins does! If i'm going to choose a $38 entree, i'd like to see what i'm getting for the money. Including little add-ons and portion size (see two ribs when they said short ribs). And why when they ask why i'd recommend kona grill in following question is "for the food" not a choice?

I have to admit, Kona Rewards is what brought us in. I had 15 rewards dollars because of a recent birthday. It's unfortunate, but that is really the only thing that brings me back to Kona these days. We used to go all the time for all day happy hour on Sunday or even after work happy hour on the week days. At both you could get good sushi and a great price. But Kona has all but discontinued those HH deals and to be frank, their sushi is not worth the prices they charge. The Picaso roll is their best item and one I don't mind paying 22 dollars for, but every other roll on the menu is par at best, but priced at a premium. In addition, their drinks are sub-par. I ordered an old-fashioned last night and shame on me for doing so. I should have known if Jim Beam was the liquor on the menu that it was not a premium old-fashioned (like I could get elsewhere), just priced like one. It was basically Jim Beam, Bitters and a cheap cherry. It was gross and I switched to water after that. All in all, the food was decent. The prices too high. The service was great. I bet the waitress quickly finds a better place for her talents.
