   Three of our party were absolutely delighted with their meals…I was disappointed with my choices…the calamari was chewy and the arancini had an unpleasant aftertaste. I would try something else next time. Overall, we had a nice night out.

   This restaurant has a family-owned vibe which is nice for a cozy meal. The pasta was hot and the portion size was good. The service was great! Attentive, but not overly so, which is suitable for this type of establishment. The only drawbacks were that upon entering the restaurant, there was a strong smell of cigarette smoke, reminiscent of old hotels that used to have smoking rooms but haven’t yet replaced the old carpet. The bathroom also had this odour. After some time passed the smoke odour dissipated or maybe I just got used to it, but it seemed to not be so obvious once more guests arrived. I was there for an early dinner and for awhile only one other table was dining, so the music felt a little loud. Also, one of the servers was drying off utensils and tossing them into a tray in view the diners and the noise was distracting. Usually guests shouldn’t see or hear this type of activity, as it should be done in the back out of sight. My rating overall is three stars because the food quality was decent and the restaurant was clean. It wouldn’t fit under a fine dining category, but was good enough for a low-key, casual dinner with a friend.

   Not particularly comfortable seating, crowded and noisier as the evening progressed. Bread was toasted and dried out. Can’t imagine anyone would pay the listed $4 price for a second basket. Waitress a bit brash. Food was decent, but not stellar enough to make up for the other deficiencies. It was a Saturday night, and the live pianist lent a nice touch.

    excellent staff especially our waiter a male water. he reminded me what a proper waiter should be like he knew everything about all the dishes and quick to tell you e specials and whats fresh. we had traditional calamari to start. nice flavour but was chewy... my only complaint . then i had paladora alfrado. amazing rich flavourful fresh . the wife had gnocchi with white sauce. was good. very nice will go back more delicious pastas to try , not terribly priced either quite romantic. and i am a picky eater.

    I haven’t been here in a really long time, but remember being really satisfied with everything way back then. Yesterday we arrived, were seated, water was brought and then completely ignored for about 30 minutes. It was actually a embarrassing because everyone else was getting attention. Another table was seated, got drinks and got their meal before we were even asked what we would like to drink.

    I was disappointed in the service considering it wasn't very busy. Seafood Lasagna was recommended to me as I love seafood but didn't find there was much seafood in this entree and was very bland ,heavy with white sauce and not much cheese. The quiet atmosphere with the soft piano was very welcome and still enjoyed it overall. Doris Frost

    Open table gave us the option of booking either the normal menu or a set New Year's Eve menu for $88. We reviewed the normal menu and decided that the prices were reasonable and we would go for that, so we reserved accordingly. When we got to the restaurant we were told that the normal menu was not an option, only the expensive set menu. Although we were a bit taken aback, we didn't want to be rude and leave, so we resigned ourselves to paying more than we expected. Had the food been outstanding, we would have been mollified, but it was not. There were three of us and the appetizer was set up for two and not expanded for three. The bread, which both wait staff assured us was being put into the oven for us, was not warmed through. The main courses had obviously been prepared well in advance and neither the veal shank nor the confit de canard were particularly delicious. The Apple and Pear Tart for dessert had a soggy crust. The "live entertainment" was a young man playing the piano for about half an hour when we first arrived, with a backdrop of a rotating series of scenes of Italy displayed on a large screen behind the piano. The young man played well and we enjoyed this, thinking that this was a worthwhile addition to the ambiance. Unfortunately, he left very early (maybe 7:15?) and both his playing and the beautiful scenes were replaced by a list of New Year's Eve music which never changed. The canned music just played through over and over again. This was our first venture to La Baia Italian Restaurant. We had been and attracted by the 4.3/5 rating given by a large number of previous diners. Based upon our experience, it is a mystery how this rating was earned. It will be our last visit.

    The food and service were good as we've come to expect over the years, and the restaurant itself had a pleasant makeover since our last visit (although we always enjoyed the old decor, too). One sticking point that did end up being an annoyance: the booking system offered the choice of set price ($88.00) meal, or a la carte off the menu. We chose a la carte, only to be blindsided once seated in the restaurant and told that a la carte was not an option even though we had booked specifically for it. Although this was not a gargantuan deal, it was an annoyance and embarassing as we had brought friends from out of town with us and had assured them in advance they would not be paying the premium price. Perhaps the booking system should be updated in future.

    Three ladies out for an evening for our annual Christmas dinner. The restaurant was nice decorated and very festive. We were approached immediately when we entered the restaurant and show to our table. Wine was ordered and promptly brought to the table and house specials for appetizers and main entrees were told and we were given plenty of time to think it over while we enjoyed the fresh bread & dipping sauce. All three of us ordered the seafood lasagna which was delicious and presentation was beautiful. The chef did make an appearance and our compliments were given on the outstanding meal. Once finished our plates were removed and dessert was offered while we finished our wine. Portion was really generous so no room for dessert. While exchanging Christmas gifts the chef once again visited out table and had a lovely conversation which really added that personal experience. Lovely evening and would highly recommend & definitely will return again soon.

    Absolutely great dinner. Food was excellent, shared apps and salad which was great, the arancini was delicious and seafood salad so tasty. Our server explained the menu and the specials to us so we were able to make a decision on our meals. The entire evening we were not rushed and were able to have a very leisurely meal. We will be back as this is the best restaurant we have found in the White Rock area.

    If you're looking for authenic Italian cuisine, La Baia Italian Restaurant is a must. Just up the hill from the very busy Marine Drive in White Rock on 8th Avenue. Great food, prices and service. Free parking! Don't forget to try their Brunch on the weekend.

    The food was amazing! The chef even came out to see how we were enjoying our meals. My husband said this was the best lasagna he has ever had. The decor is questionable. Some staff walking around in slippers and a hoody, does not impress me in a high end dining room.

    My husband and I have loved LaBaia for over 30 years! 99% of our dinners were wonderful: food, service and ambience. When Pierre retired we were nervous about how LaBaia would fare. At first we were happy withe the modifications the new owner put into place. At first we applauded the new chef along with expert server, David, along with a couple of loyal servers. At first we loved the "new" menu items. At first we were delighted. Last night, we were so disappointed in all areas: food, service and ambience. My lobster bisque was not as rich and tasty as the other two times I had it. My lamb was tasteless. My husband's beef cannelloni looked like an appetizer. He did like his Caesar salad. The server was most efficient; like wise the busser. Neither of them had the finesse David and the original servers had. The owner was too busy being efficient to visit the tables personally for just a brief and polite moment. I'm sad that what was first class has dropped to mediocre if I compare it to just a few months ago. Fine dining ought to be just that: exquisite, memorable, upscale; it needs to set the bar higher than all the rest of the simply eating places in S.Sry and White Rock. There really are those of us who placed value on all three: food, service and ambience. The difference is in the attitude and vision of the restauranteur. We won't be back for a long while. If I want lamb, I'll go to Cosmos or make it myself!
