La Banane took care of us from the minute we walked in the door. Chris made us some incredible cocktails and the waitress was incredibly knowledgeable guiding us how best to order. We would go back in a heartbeat!
Came for dinner for a pre-show dinner with my girlfriend. Service, food and ambiance was excellent and the ultra french menu was lovely to see, as a trained Chef i can appreciate the technique that was on display with our meal. I have very seldom had such perfectly seasoned food in my life, everything was perfect in terms of salt and seasonings. Only complaint was our main course portions were a but small for the price especially since they strongly recommended a separately priced side option. My black Cod main was about a 4 or 5 oz potion with a delicious anchovy sauce with a bit of sauteed leek ribbons, for $38, not bad for fine dining but i would have like to see just a bit more or an additional component. Without the side purchase the main course would not have been large enough to satisfy, although our broccolini side was HUGE and amazingly sauced and seasoned, so i'm nitpicking here. Server was friendly , knowledgeable and not overbearing . Lovely Dinner .
Everything was perfect from the beginning to end. Friendly service, delicious food, and a beautiful restaurant. This is the perfect place for dinner with friends, a date, or to celebrate a special occasion- We would definitely recommend visiting La Banane!
Kris and Sara made our experience exceptional. Kudos on hiring excellent authentic people.
This was a incredibly enjoyable meal. It was my wife's choice to celebrate her birthday here because she has had many positive experiences at La Banane . It was my son and myself's first time here . The next day when we asked our son about dinner plans he said "La Banane ?" . Can't give higher praise than that !
Food was delicious
Waiters knowledgeable but our main man abandoned us to other servers which was a bit confusing and caused the wine colour that was promptly remedied . A lot of various servers
Only complaint was the loud and rather disco-et music that was not convivial with menu and a more sophisticated dinner
We had a fantastic meal, from the apps, mains and the wonderfull hand-painted chocloate egg with truffles inside.
We had 3 bottles of wine and 2 bottles of champagne, their selection of them both were fantastic we found (though if you are super-picky about wines, they obviously can not carry them all) - however the champagne selection is bar none in Toronto (IMHO) for bubbly-connaisseurs.
-Great bar area with the fresh seafood on display
-Great seafood options for apps the tower looked amazing (we had crab legs, lobster and oysters)
-Great wine selection
-Fantastic champagne selection (for those not just seeking a famous label)
-Cozy atmosphere, great size (not too large)
-Attentive staff and hosts
-Great recommendations by staff on pairings and more
-Not loud, great clientele, classy crowd and atmosphere
-Very accommodating, staff goes out of their way to please, the manager approached us to welcome us and provided his card for the next time to reach him directly
Everyone loved everything this night, so it's hard to just identify one part of this location, it just all came together quite well, and everything we ordered was all just amazing.
We were not in anyway dissapointed by the service, the food, the selection of wine/champagnes, or the deserts - we had a lot of variety between our group (business dinner with close clients) - and two folks from our group were from Chicago (who eat great food all the time) and were also very pleased.
Will visit again, great experience.
Chris was an excellent server and food was outstanding.
The restaurant has tons of potential. Very pretty decor and some dishes were excellent - fried chicken, trout tarte, desserts. Other items were disappointing - didn’t expect the liver to be pate, steak was tough. Music was way too loud - we couldn’t have a Conversation across the table. Service was ok. Price was a bit more than I expected but happy to pay if they could get everything right.
Amazing service and delicious food!
Loved the room and the service and the food. Will recommend it (have already!) and will be back to sit at table 70 with more friends!
The food was just incredible. Thank you so much for making this birthday so special!
We had our anniversary dinner at La Banane. It was very good food, wonderful casual atmosphere, and exceptional service. I would definitely go back.
Side note...we loved the steak knives they used so much we bought them online during dessert!
Exceptional service paired with deliriously decadent fare in a fun and lively setting. The tasting menu is a must. A new favourite in Toronto. It took a considerable amount of time to get a booking but it was well worth the wait.
Delicious food, however, portions quite small.
Not only was the food exception but the service was out of this world. Our server, Rach, was phenomenal as were all the people that came to our table. I wish the Sommelier was in as I would have loved to talk more about the wine we ordered.
Highly recommend this restaurant.
Excellent food, drinks, and service. Great birthday dinner and lovely night overall!
Amazing! One of my faves in the city. They do everything right.
Did not have non alcohol beer, for an upscale restaurant not acceptable.
Did not have regular full size type of martini glass. Both martinis were watered-down
One entree specifically was absolutely far too not, hot enough to burn the mouth. This should never of been brought to the table as hot as it was. Also, should of been advised of same.
Not likely to ever return
Olivia created the most wonderful experience for our evening! I would request a table with her again next time. The food and ambiance were excellent as well. Can’t wait to return!
Every experience with La Banane from start to finish was impeccable. The manager, Ivy called the day before and discussed our details for seating and our hopes for the occasion. She was amazing - accommodating, professional and friendly. Knew us when we got there, treated us like old friends and just truly a wonderful host.
Our server Rob was knowledgeable and knew exactly how to connect with his guests. Very impressive food knowledge and recommendations on so many levels.
Food freshly prepared, fresh, inventive but traditional French. We shared dishes and ate family style - seafood tower... tuna with capers, bib salad, sliced rib eye with sides, bang on flavours and result. Can’t say enough! Thank you for an incredible night!
The food was delicious, but what blew me away was the service. They treat every guest as if that person is a good friend stopping in for dinner. So friendly, energetic, knowledgeable, and accommodating. I've been to many restaurants in Toronto, & I would say that La Banane is one of the best!
Everything was fantastic.
Only minor extremely small observation was the amount of pâté was too much, relative to the amount of bread that accompanied it. I would either add more bread, or serve less pâté.
Absolutely loved the oysters! The tuna app was the most delicious.
Great food. Great vibes. Great service.
We celebrated our anniversary here and had a fantastic time. The restaurant has a great vibe. Our server was top notch and was very helpful recommending dishes and cocktails. The food is second to none in Toronto in my opinion. Our order was as follows: mini seafood platter, Albarcore tuna, beef tartare, crab croquettes, and fried chicken. I'm not sure I could pick a favourite dish as everything was just so good. The mini seafood platter is massive and great value in my opinion.
While we sat at a table for this occasion, I would also recommend sitting at the bar as you get to watch all of the seafood platters being made.
Came with high expectations regarding food and service. Our experience exceeded our expectations! Bravo!
Excellent food, drinks and service. Beautiful art-deco design. The entire meal was delicious, but I must say that the broccolini was the best I've ever tasted.
We got there a bit earlier than our reservation (20 minutes). We were told to wait because they may spots at the bar but that did not happen which is fine but it wasn’t communicated to us by anyone and we kept waiting in the hopes that something might open up soon. By the time we sat at our table it was 15 minutes past our reservation time so in total we waited for 35 minutes before we sat down. It would have been better for someone to communicate that to us at the beginning so we could have use this time to go to another bar until our reservation time.
Great meal with friends. We had a great spot at the bar table (which is good for 3 or 4). Very lively setting. The fried chicken was delectable, though very rich! Suggest sharing it.
Amazing food. We were attracted to the restaurant by the chocolate egg but thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Now one of my favourite Toronto restaurants.
An excellent experience with delicious food and great service
Everything was great. The only issue we had was the lighting was very dim and the text on the menu was very light and hard to read. They should have a darker or bolder font.
This place legitimately lives up to the hype. The Ziggy Stardust Disco Eggs are ridiculous and decadent, but entirely worth it for special occasions. A great date/special occasion spot.
Overall the place is great! My husband loved his food. But as a vegetarian there were 2 options for me. An omelette or a plate of vegetables... disappointing.
Easily one of the best new(ish) restaurants in Toronto. I couldn't name a single fault in our experience at La Banane. My girlfriend has severe dietary restrictions for medical reasons, and our server was extremely patient and a massive help in navigating the menu. We ordered oysters, shrimp cocktail, and Dungeness crab, and followed with the Wagyu steak, the Eurobass-en-croute, and charred broccolini.
The seafood was really good, and the shrimp cocktail was easily the best I have ever had.
The wagyu was extremely tender and flavourful, and came with a peppercorn sauce.
The Eurobass was perfect, extremely tender and a nice salty flavour from the salt-pastry crust. It came with a yuzu beurre blanc is made from a Japanese citrus fruit (yuzu), which is tart and slightly bitter. The sauce complemented the fish perfectly.
The charred broccolini came atop some sort of aioli which was packed with flavour.
The cocktails were also great. the Penicillin (scotch, lemon, sugar, ginger) was a great apertif.
All in all, its a 10/10 experience. The food is packed with flavour and done extremely well, the staff are very friendly and helpful, and the ambiance is fantastic.
Absolutely delicious. It’s a bit pricey but you get what you pay for and it’s 100% worth it. Started with oysters and then had the eurobass and it was exquisite. The service was absolutely impeccable. Will be back for sure.
Max, the bartender was great. Chef Brandon was great. Big ups to the back of house.
I have been there many times and I love it more each time
