About La Banane
Beyond the yellow door, guests enter a space where the past and future mingle. Hallmarks of classic bistro style – a long marble bar, white linens and crystal stemware are mixed with contemporary art, bold colour and an eclectic soundtrack of funk, Motown and disco. Chef Brandon Olsen's cuisine features an extensive raw bar and French classics, executed in a modern style. Our wine list is also primarily French, with some Ontario selections.
We look forward to welcoming you to La Banane.

La Banane Ratings and Reviews
Max, the bartender was great. Chef Brandon was great. Big ups to the back of house.
I have been there many times and I love it more each time
Very special authentic French cuisine restaurant on Toronto's hip Ossington strip. Solid service and excellent cuisine. Stylist atmosphere with fun retro mixed tunes and lively weekend crowd. Linen-clad tables at each end allow for an ideal date night away with the more boisterous booths and bar table in the middle. For foodies and diners, a definitely place to hit up in Toronto.
This is my idea of the perfect restaurant - great food, beautiful but not fussy decor (I want to hire the decorator for my house, seriously), an army of friendly but not too friendly staff, and really fun music that wasn't too loud - easy to have a conversation without shouting. I love that it's high level french cuisine but also has a sense of humor, as evidenced by the banana artwork and 70s funky music. The crab croquettes were very rich with the perfect texture creamy inside and crisp outside. The trout with aji amarillo sauce was outstanding - I good bit of ginger in the sauce. The mashed potatoes were more cheese than potatoes - not complaining they were delicious. My friend is on a gluten free and non meat diet, that is my only slight criticism that her options were very limited - she had the omelette and brocolini and said both were great. The portions were surprisingly large, we had no room for desert so complementary chocolates were a perfect end to the meal.
Delicious food, excellent wine (and fairly priced for a high end restaurant) and great atmosphere! Loved this place.
Warm, lively ambiance. Hostess was a delight, service started strong but attentiveness fell away when it got busy. Very tasty French food, some offbeat selections, interesting but small menu. Presentation had hits and misses, bouillabaisse (hit!) sloppy banana "cake" (miss!). I love salt, but found most food oversalted, esp. the way-too-salty salted caramel ice cream. Worth another try.
Duck confit is excellent!
Excellent Service, Transcendent Food, Kinda Pricey
Great service. Lots of fun special foods. Indulgent in a way the French do so well.
Our server Bobby was very knowledgeable and helpful, we ordered a lot of food and couldn't finish so we ended up taking a lot to go. It was still excellent the next day. The food here was very rich, so if you're not used to eating a lot of fat-heavy meals, be careful! Your stomach might suffer a bit.
The complimentary chocolates and Montenegro was a nice touch! Thank you for the lovely experience.
La Banane is a phenomenal restaurant: a superb experience from start to finish. I can't wait to go back and recommend its delicious food without hesitation.
Great and fantastic food. I recommand for sure.
The Chef is very incredible. Bravo la Banane ;-)
This was my second time at La Banane and I can't say enough good things about it! Everything we ordered was delicious and the service was top-notch. They knew we were celebrating two birthdays and everyone we talked to wished us a happy birthday. We brought 3 bottles of wine and a bottle of champagne and the sommelier was super-knowledgeable and told us a little about each bottle and recommending drinking order. The seared fois gras was some of the best I've ever had (even in Paris!). We ordered the Eurobass which was presented to us whole before being deboned and drenched in an amazing sauce. The steak was also superb. Duck was good - I'm not a huge fan of duck so I'm not the best judge but it certainly was tasty. Sides were great and the hand painted diso egg chocolate dessert - while pricy - was beautiful and delicious. Will definitely be returning to La Banane to try a seafood platter.
Great hostess Lily. Amazing food and very good value for a high end resto. But service was slow and discombobulated... waited 15 mins for a drink. Warm plates with seafood and salad. Had to track down service But food insanely good.
Amazing as always:)
Great atmosphere and amazing food, the eurobass is incredible.
Great evening from beginning to end - our server was spectacular, the food amazing. Second time I’ve had the pleasure and I would definitely come a third time. Thank you!!!
As usual, greeted warmly by Ivy, who always makes you feel like a guest and not a customer. Amazing service at the bar from Chris W., definitely try the Banane Banane drink it was addictive. Got to have a bottle of the White Chocolate Stout from Blood Brothers, never seen a pale stout - poured in a wine glass, nonetheless! This isn't a cheap spot but the ambiance and service warrant the price tag. I like that you can reserve at the bar via opentable, so my preference was already known before I got there.
Great food! Great and authentic French food!!
Enjoyed everything we had, such joy!
Fantastic dinner, yummy flavours, great service. The shrimp cocktail was especially good!
10/10 restaurant would highly recommend it fir anyone who wants a good meal in toronto
Absolutely fabulous restaurant! Went for a family birthday celebration. I love the size of the restaurant. Not too small or big. The decor is spectacular. Perfect mix of glam sparkle and coziness. I especially love the banquets. We had the most fun and charming server who added to our evening. The food and drink were delicious. Highlights - orange wine, gooey cheesy mashed potatoes, veal. I was slightly disappointed with egg dessert. Just not my thing. Overall I cannot recommend this restaurant more highly.
Classy, chic, fun take on french classics. All of the seafood is amazing, especially the raw bar.
The handmade chocolates are the piece de resistance, especially if you go for the Ziggy Stardust Disco Egg.
Food’s delicious, great service and cosy ambience
Food was average, heavy on the salt and sauce. Duck was salty, the steel head trout was also too salty and lemony, in short a very nice piece of trout was destroyed. On the flip side the service was great.
Great food, service and environment
My friend has always wanted to come here. So we finally came and the ambience is great. Love the interior design that runs throughout the restaurant, and details even in the bathrooms. Food was delicious; we had 2 cocktails, the mini seafood platter, an appetizer and the grilled pineapple with tofu pudding as dessert. The staff even gave us a couple of local hand made chocolates from the owner of La Banane, I believe.
There were 3 types of oysters on the platter and they all hit the spot! We were going to order more oysters but the two of us were full. I will definitely go back for an oyster night.
As per the service, everything was great and I’ve noticed we didn’t have to wait for one specific person to help us with our table. It seems like there was one main guy but everyone works as a team. Overall, thumbs up.
This is a fabulous spot. It's fine dining, but not stuffy - very hip (not hipster) vibe. I love the French Art Deco decor. The service was impeccable. We were told ahead of time that we had our table for 2 hours, but they did not rush the service at all. The timing is the best in the city as far as I'm concerned. Yes, it's expensive, but every restaurant in Toronto is expensive except for fast food spots. This is worth the price. Do it.
Everything was really good, but surprisingly salty - we found ourselves aggressively thirsty hours later even after five or six glasses of water. That said, I really enjoyed the dishes, so maybe everything being that salty was the consequence of it being so good.
Our major quibble, we wish we had known in advance that their Ziggy Stardust Egg had coffee grounds in it. It wouldn't be worth the $50 even if it didn't have coffee in it - it's a handful of chocolate truffles, a little dried apricots and coffee grounds inside a chocolate egg - hardly worth $50, but since neither me nor my wife can have coffee in the evenings, we weren't even able to enjoy it. Mention that there's coffee in it before people pay $50!
The food was plentiful and quite delicious, some items were not to our taste, but seemed quite good overall. The atmosphere is lovely, great decor, artwork and seating. The service was very efficient and friendly. I would have liked a clearer idea of what the food descriptions entailed, but would definitely return again.
Knowledgable staff, excellent food, gorgeous interior, consistently the best meals I've had on ossington ❤️
Delicious flavours with simple straightforward presentation. Classic French cooking but not your typical French dishes. My favourite was the tuna topped with this amazing caper and dill pesto... so yummy!!!!
Probably our best dining experience in Toronto in 2017! Everything was perfect!
As expected the food was delightful, the ambiance was intimate although they had booths for larger groups, and a bar for more casual seating. the staff was extremely attentive but not intrusive- it was my wife's birthday and they ensured we had a disco egg, and everyone greeted her with a happy birthday. The Euro bass was succulent and definitely worth a try.
Service was to notch.
The food is the star of the show...atmosphere was great too but who cares if the food is lacking...
Great. They brought a candle in our dessert for my birthday.
Great menu, the service is exceptionally good, the cocktails are classy and smart. Value for money is not really there - more than a few of the items are a touch over-priced for the small portions. Overall, totally worth trying.
