La Cantina Opelika
La Cantina serves the downtown community and strives to be an attraction that draws customers from surrounding areas. Building from our historical location and strategic repurposing of materials from the local area, we are positioned both literally and figuratively to be a destination of distinction.
Great margaritas! Guacamole fajitas and street corn delicious.
This was the second time I've been to La Cantina and both times the food and service were great. We had a large group this time and they accommodated us perfectly. The table was already set up when we got there. Our server Michael was fantastic. Very attentive and accommodating.
The only thing is I wish they'd have pitchers of margaritas :)
This is my new favorite restaurant! I’ve been there three times in the last month and a half!
I like this restaurant, especially when you can sit outside on deck in the spring and Fall, or when weather is nice. Food is always good. Great options for taco’s. This evening the bar service was really slow. Took a long time for a margarita. It was busy and they were backed up, but you would like to get that drink in early. Otherwise a nice spot for a casual meal.
Loved our server & the cheese dip was AHHHMAZING!
Thank you for the review - hope to see you again soon!
This was our second time dining and let me start by saying this is not your usual Tex-mex Cantina. The menu is fresh and modern with farm fresh to table cuts of beef from the owners’ Black Angus Cattle Ranch up the road. My husband and I are excited to go back, we have both tried several different dishes and been more than beyond pleased with the quality of ingredients, presentation and plating; thus, we look forward to trying new dishes on our return. Take your time, order an appetizer, savor your entree, enjoy the outside patio and make sure to save room for dessert!
Thank you for the great review! We enjoyed talking with you and serving you again. Looking forward to many more visits!
Service and attentiveness was good. We love authentic Mexican/ Tex-Mex cuisine and were excited to try La Cantina. The items on the menu looked intriguing and tasty. Received complimentary chips and salsa promptly and our food orders came out in reasonable time. Biggest complaint was that all the food (other than the jalapeno Marg) was rather bland. Not near enough spice or pizzazz for Southwest fare. The complimentary red salsa was actually sweet and had a strange flavor. Portion sizes were ample and atmosphere was fine but food flavor was a disappointment. BTW... Bartender was on point as both margaritas were delicious!!
We had a group there for Graduation dinner . Jennifer and her staff were awesome. Food was fantastic. Highly recommend !!!
Service was slow. Food was cold. Service charge was added to the bill and server did not point it out prior to giving the check.
Made the reservation 1 and a half hours before I got to the restaurant, and the hostess told us that they stop checking for reservations after 5pm, so our table was not ready and we had to wait an additional 20 minutes for a table. Once we ordered, we waiting nearly an hour for our food.
A small group of us ate here after an Auburn game and it was great. The service was fast and friendly. And, the food was really good. The queso with the chorizo sausage was fantastic! Fun place in a neat location away from the crazy crowds after an Auburn game!!
Made a reservation through OpenTable, still waited an additional 40 minutes to be seated.
Food was good, but the servers were very overloaded.
I reserved seats at the La Cantina for a post graduation lunch. Ironically, I chose that place because they were the only ones that could accomodate a reservation for 20 seats at the time I needed to reserve them. I'm sure glad they did, the food and service were great. I'll be looking for an excuse to come back and eat there again.
Terrific spot, quite a surprise for Opelika!
Really nice menu options. Not often can you find fried ice cream that's actually fried! Also love the ability to mix and match the variety of tacos.
For a Mexican restaurant in the South, I did expect my salsas and jalapeños to have a lot more heat than they did, which I thought was missing. Overall very nice meal, would drop by again.
We went for Mother's Day and it was just what I wanted - casual, quiet. They had a breakfast buffet set up, which is a different type of food from the norm. I think the Mexican food is best.
Wonderful service and food!
Food was good, atmosphere was very fun! We had a reservation for 10 and they were ready for us when we got there! Our server was outstanding! She was fun, energetic and made the evening extra special. We were celebrating our sons graduation and commissioning from Auburn and she made it an even better celebration!
GOOD sangria, great variety of delicious food and our server, Devony couldn’t have been more personable. She checked back often to see if we needed refills, etc. Very nice experience 😊
Good experience. Drink prices were a little steep. Food was good and seemed better than average Mexican food!
Not just the run of the mill Mexican restaurant. Interesting new food combinations. We'll go back. Friendly service.
Delicious food and quaint setting. We were so pleasantly surprised and will definitely visit again!!
La Cantina hits every mark consistently. The food is so much better than your typical, cliche "free chips and salsa" joint. Don't come in expecting your standard Mexican fare. The complimentary salsa trio is a great starter with a traditional red, a bright citrusy green, and my favorite black bean and corn salsa. I almost always order the queso and chorizo which has the right amount of spice to balance out the creamy cheesy dip. Some favorite entrees are the steak quesadilla (steak is well seasoned and has never been overcooked, pressed in a lightly buttered and crispy tortilla) or the burrito bowl (with grilled chicken mixed with black beans, corn, rice, peppers, onions and queso making a hearty, savory, satisfying meal that is enough for lunch the next day). As far as drinks, I've been impressed with the offerings on the menu as well as the willingness of the staff to make exactly what I request even when ordering off menu. It is a bit more expensive than your standard Mexican pricing, but it is worth the extra dollar or two for the freshness and quality of ingredients used. The servers and hosts are friendly and gracious, and you can tell they truly want you to have a good experience. The atmosphere is relaxing and fun with a great modern small town vibe, that doesn't take itself too seriously, and matches with the decor and location. If you're looking for something a little different, but that will still have a menu to please everyone, and not break the bank - give La Cantina a try. And don't forget to save room for dessert!
This place is awesome. It is true Tex-Mex. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The entire staff is so nice. Once seated they start you off with 3 different types of salsa - traditional red, bean/corn, and verde (my favorite.) This was not my first visit and it certainly won't be my last. The food is amazing. Everything I have tried has been exceptional, but my current favorite is the chicken burrito bowl. This is a great place to go if you are looking for a pretty quiet atmosphere and delicious food. The prices are a little more than the (on every corner) Mexican places in the area, but the food is better quality by far. You definitely get your money's worth.
The food was not good and no fewer than 4 servers kept dropping by while we were eating. The brunch scramble eggs were coated in a crust from the griddle and the sausage was burnt. The side of black beans tasted like they were straight from the can. I will never go back.
