La Carnita- College
In the heart of Little Italy, we opened our very first “Westside” La Carnita. This location includes a small but sunny patio, spots to people watch from, and comfortable booths for groups. Though Little Italy is home to many great spots, from here La Carnita was able to quickly become a Toronto staple. By offering an irresistible menu of delicious tacos, tostadas, and sharing plates, while creating a vibrant atmosphere over Westside has remained the place to be for the past 5 years.
Located in the heart of Little Italy is our very first LC location. This is where the once pop-up based concept became a reality and where many people in Toronto first got to know us. Though we're surrounded by some amazing neighbours La Carnita stands alone as a Mexican offering in the area.View Private Dining Details
The food is delicious. Everything else is awful. Plus, its really expensive. 6$ for one taco the size of my hand isnt a goor deal.
Server didn’t introduce himself and was not engaging in asking if anything was needed. I honestly thought he was clearing tables not a server. Had to grab his attention for drinks and food. “I thought you guys just wanted drinks” was his response when I asked for a starter after a pitcher was ordered but he never asked so to assume something is poor service on his part.
Music in the front of the restaurant/bar was too loud to have a conversation without borderline shouting but makes for good eavesdropping lol. I enjoy loud music but was hard to hear my partner and as we left around 10:20 the DJ began shouting over the music like DJ Clue.
Second time at La Carnita but first at the college location (John St first time). Food was delicious and consistent with the John location and arrived quickly. Taco/tostada were all very tasty especially the Tuna and Cod.
Unbearably loud music. Like being in a dj booth at a club. Could barely hear my friend sitting 2 feet from me
The food and service was fantastic but the music was so loud! Could hardly hear the person across from you.
La Carnita is one of those places you book and plan to eat. Going on a whim allows for a large risk of you not getting seated! The place is packed any time of day, so always, always reserve your table — can’t stress that enough!
It was absolutely worth the visit as service was attentive and food came quickly. And speaking of food... wow! Great combination of flavours! It’s what you want in a good, solid taco or mango salad!
A plus is that they have Mexican beers! Haven’t had them in a while so it was refreshing to taste the flavours again.
All in all, great time and food!
A bit loud, and very busy. Food was very good, and good vegetarian options.
Disliked how the bills come as one and are not divided.
I always want to love La Carnita but being in the service industry myself, I have high standards.
Our server seemed lovely but she was absent a lot of the time. She could easily have gotten a higher bill by asking if we wanted another round of drinks. Instead we sat there with empty glasses for most of the evening.
It is very loud and hard to have a conversation, unless you are okay with yelling.
The vibe is fun and the food is great.
The only other problem we had was that there were no gluten free options or keto options for my gf.
Good food, great service, not somewhere I would go on a first date as it can get messy... but had a great time!
Maybe a little loud for any intimate conversation..
But great food and cool, casual atmosphere for a fun night out
Love the tacos at la carnita but they were out of their fried chicken taco as well as wings. 8:30 isn’t a super late dinner and I’ve come in many times before to menu items that are out of stock. Very disappointing for a restaurant that is constantly booked/has a long wait time. A bit noisy as well but still somehow nice intimate ambience
Great food, very fresh and tasty, especially the fish tacos!! Sangria seemed to have been watered down though...But the service was efficient and friendly. Would return for sure.
It was a regular day at la carnita great tacos
I’ve been to other locations before, but I’m happy to have found this one! Much easier to get a table and less people here, creating a more intimate time. The server was attentive and really friendly. Much better service than the busier locations
The drinks were overpriced for the size. Waiters couldn’t answer any of our questions. Tried four different tacos that all had too little meat and too much sauces. The nacho chips were stale and chewy.
Good food to try: in cod we trust, pollo frito, mexican street corn.+ taco of the day: (was vegetarian, cheese and micro greens)
Love the food really outstanding and different. On the expensive side considering that for dinner you will have to order at least 3 / 4 dishes. Every dish are 3 small portions but very tasty and delicate
I would go back and I would suggest it to all
I find this place over rated. The taco's were just ok for me, I've definitely had better! The corn was probably my favourite and the churros are really good but it's not somewhere I would go back!
Food was good but service could have been better. No air conditioning and the place was too hot
This was my third time here and honestly have to say it will also be my last.
Food was pretty terrible. Ordered guacamole and chips and you basically get a tablespoon of guacamole and 1,000 chips. Also, it looked and tasted more like one of the ready made guacs you would get at a grocery store.
Had the chicken, cauliflower, cheese and chorizo tacos and all of them were stone cold when they got to the table. So I’m assuming they’re mass made and ready on standby in the kitchen for the servers to just grab and go. Needless to say I think all our tacos had been sitting there for awhile, because they certainly weren’t warm or that fresh.
Service was so-so, but nothing exceptional. Our server didn’t mention any specials, and only came around once to our table.
This used to be one of the go-to taco joints in the city. Maybe it was just an off night, but with so many other taco options out there now, I say avoid Carnita and go someplace else.
Good experience, nice food but drinks are small and music was too loud (hard to talk to someone). Their fish taco is very tasty, brings me back.
Great food, significantly louder than other La Carnita locations I’ve been to.
It was just OK.
It was great, our server was very accommodating and the tacos were incredible
Delicious food. Thank you soo much.
Not horrible but the food has declined noticeably since I was last there.
The carne asada taco was really good, as well as the ceviche taco. The chicken meh. However, the pitcher of house margarita, of the chart. It hit the spot and worth a return trip just for the margaritas.
All the staff including the host were so friendly and positive. The food was outstanding. We really enjoyed our dinner there.
Server was awesome and super friendly, accommodated a group of 7 people no problem, food was spectacular.
Worst customer service at the college location. Very unfriendly staff and lack communication. The eglinton location is much better. Would never go back to that location.
The kitchen and wait staff looks like they all have pride in what they do- and it shows in the food that they prepare and serve, so kudos to them. The menu is well put together with just enough variety/options. Even made the vegetarian/vegan options look appealing- which let's be honest is hard to do. Best tacos in Toronto, even beating El Catrin in my opinion.
Amazing food as always...music WAAYYY to loud !!! ( you can barely hear the people you're sitting with). Tone down the volume and this place would be perfect !
Had dinner here with friends on my birthday. Was so pleasantly surprised at how accommodating they were when I unexpectedly had way more guests than I had reserved for originally! Thanks La Carnita.
The dessert is the best. The service has gone diwn
I can’t rave enough about the crispy cauliflower and crispy cotija cheese tacos. So. Dang. Good! This place is also amazing for people watching! Love it!
Food was amazing as always, we frequent the spot a lot as it’s our ritual for date night each week.... this is the first time that I actually left the restaurant feeling like I didn’t want to come back. Our server was in a terrible mood and I mean we all have our days but if you were that miserable serving food then you shouldn’t be working as a server.
Food was really good but the music was WAY to loud, made it really hard to have a conversation.
Amazing food and service as always.
Great tasting tacos, energetic atmosphere. Came here for Cinco De Mayo, wouldn’t have done it any other way.
Tacos are great, sangria is even better!!! The corn is to die for however the service could be better. Had a reservation with my boyfriend , we were one of the first people there at 5pm, they sat us in an awkward table right beside someone when the whole place was empty. We asked to be moved, she moved us one seat away. We’ve been here many times but not sure if we will reserve in advance as walks in got better seats and service.
Food and service were excellent but music was a bit too loud (we were seated under the speakers).
