Great atmosphere. Tacos are great.
very fast and friendly service, one mistake with order but it was corrected quickly. tacos were great and the margarita was tasty. too loud to have a conversation though.
Great lunch special and lots of delicious food! Coming back again soon.
Service is very slow, food it’s just ok, I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s pricy for the kind of service and food they offer.
The food was sooo good! The cocktails were great however they do not have shooters (a little disappointing ). The service was a little slow in the beginning i.e. no one came to check on us or offer us anything. However it picked up a little later on in the evening. Incredible tasting experience, I would definitely come back and recommend it to others. Highly recommend making reservations as they are super busy on Friday and Saturday nights.
Food was really good. I felt the prices were high, but will go back.
have eaten here a few times over the last two months. food has been hit and miss (sometimes cold, sometimes burnt, sometimes delicious); menu items are sold out, servers suggest replacements that don't make sense; sometimes great service, sometimes terrible; food took way too long to come out with not even a hint of acknowledgement.
The server was nice, but I can't eat tortillas and he said they couldn't make any modifications for me. I had to get a salad, which I feel is expensive for what I got. The person I was dining with also got their tacos quickly, while I had to wait for a while to get my salad. Her food sat for a quote a while (5-10 minutes) while she was considerately waiting for my food to arrive. It was quite loud, which I could have overlooked if the rest of the experience was better.
Definitely make a reservation if you're headed here for dinner. But if you can, ask for a table that isn't right in the middle of the room. I should have done this when I booked our time slot.
We were seated upstairs at a table that was directly in the way of passersby and staff, and we were bumped into several times while trying to eat. Kind of ruined it for us.
Otherwise everything was fantastic.
Loved the food and the drinks were great
This place was really good for that late night feel of grabbing a few drinks and food sharing. I didn't really get my trio dip for my chips but the one I got was great still. Ceviche was delish with the spicy kick. My favorite was the corn. The vibe was also energetic and vibrant. Overall great ambience and spot with friends or casual date.
Very poor service. Server very rude, very bad experience with server. Very cold, not accommodating.
I usually visit La Carnita 2 times per month and the food and service was not as good this time. I have had a similar experience on another Sunday as well, not sure if the kitchen staff is different. Part of our order was forgotten, when we asked for it again, only 1 or the 2 tacos came. Additionally, I had booked a table for 6 for which 18% gratuity is added, but really we were 4 adults and 2 children, so that didn't seem right, especially given that service wasn't the best.
Two of us had booked a reservation for after a Hot Docs movie. Having eaten at another location we were looking forward to the meal. The meal was tarnished by the service. Although the food came quickly, the server was less than responsive and only checked in on us as we were finished our meal. She didn't follow up with our requests and so we just let it go as it was too difficult to track her down. As many serve your table with water and food, her only job was to take our orders and give us the bill. We were seated "in the middle" of a very busy pathway and the music was loud, mood was dark. To top it off we watched another "young" patron take her own alcohol from her purse and refill her drink, finding it very entertaining. Thought I was back in high school. Disappointing.
Enjoyed my time very much catching up with a friend! super lucky to hit this hot spot up. Great margarita
Service needs attention. They are too casual in approaching customers. The drinks took 15 min. Just two simple Shots of tequila
Food was sub par. Everything was extremely heavily salted, almost to the point of being inedible
Really nice Mexican Food with creative flavours. Mexican beer available. There we've 6 of us for the Theatre- I booked for Saturday night almost a month in advance and there were only 5:45 and after 7:30 reservations available- Reservations appear to be essential at least on Saturday night.... First time we've eaten at this location although we've been to the College St. location several times... If you like Mexican or spicy food, La Carnita is well worth considering. Note- make sure you look at the address- the signage really is non existent- it's an old house that was moved when they build the building behind and north of it. I've wondered what was in it and now I know...
The lunch prix fixe is a great deal. The food is generally good, with decent portions. The service is okay.
The tacos and tostadas were delicious! Everything came very fast. Highly recommend PolloFrito and Ceviche and the avocado mango salad.
Fun, great early dinner. Tuna Tacos were incredible.
Good food over all. Waiter was friendly and helpful. Somewhat noisy setting. Not an intimate place but it served the purpose for us as we needed to eat and get to theatre.
Music quite noisy. No Mexican ambiance. Slow service. Prices not available on website menu. Advertised as $ -- definitely $-$$ for those with a healthy appetite.
Food was good, but portions small.
My experience with La Carnita was a very unpleasant one. The staff (servers) were unhelpful, dismissive, absent and at times void of any emotion. In a customer facing role, my girlfriends and I were taken aback by the sheer carelessness our server and other handlers employed in servicing us (or lack thereof). The food was mediocre at best. My cod taco was cold, my best friend couldn’t decipher which vegetation taco was hers because the server just dumped our food on the table and swiftly left. Overall, this was a unpleasant experience and my friends and I will not be returning to this establishment.
Food was absolutely delicious from the chips and guacamole, to the tacos to the churros. We were also eyeing the Mexican corn in the cob but ran out of room. Service was also top-notch.
The food is tasty but they have increased prices and its a bit overpriced for quatity you get. The tacos per cold which put me off a bit. They should warm the tortillas.
The server was very friendly which was great.
Delicious food. Great ambiance. Music is a little loud for talking
Service probably took this experience down from good to just fair. Firstly it’s hard to find the restaurant there’s no sign outside. While I was waiting for my friend there was no offer to ask if I wanted a drink or anything while I was waiting. They’re connected to sweet Jesus but don’t have a system in place to share food items or purchase food for you and add to your bill. They make you walk up and get it (even though it’s connected! Figure something out!). It also took a long time to get the bill. Staff is casual which is nice but maybe to laid back to actually service their guests.
A bit loud for conversation, but a fun and interesting place. Great food. Great cocktails.
Was in town briefly for work and wanted a good meal before heading back to airport. Wasn't sure if we needed a reservation, but made one anyway (and was glad we did as fills up fast!). Really good service, quality/creative food, and fun atmosphere. Would definitely go back when in Toronto! This place made me love sangria again!
My husband and I had booked a table at La Carnita for dinner prior to a Toronto Symphony concert. On the way to the restaurant we realized that the concert started 30 minutes earlier than we thought. On arrival at the restaurant we explained to the hostess and to the waiter our time crunch and we were assured that we would get our food order promptly- and the restaurant delivered! The food came out soon after our order was put in and it was delicious. We had the tacos " In Cod We Trust" and "Mexican Chorizo" as well as the Mango Avocado Salad. Everything was very flavourful and very good value. We would definitely recommend the John Street location if you are in the Entertainment Area of the city.
Very good location and rly good food
Don't see how this place got good reviews! Servers were obnoxious, portions small and some cold and the music overwhelmed all possibility of conversation.
The atmosphere is very warm and the vibe is very cool. The service was very good as well.
I found the food to be mostly deep fried and there are hardly any gluten free options. Perhaps if they add corn tortillas in addition to the flour tortillas then people with a gluten free diet could eat there.
It would be fine to go for drinks but if you’re looking for anything healthy to eat you won’t find it on this menu.
Food and drinks were great as usual. We had the corn and the tortilla chips and tacos. Highly recommend this place. Service was wonderful as well.
Great food! Extremely tasty! Will definitely be back with my family as my group of girlfriends enjoyed dinner. The service was great, told the server I had a peanut allergy and then all the servers knew. The prices are reasonable.
Great taco, would definitely recommend
Love the food and drinks!
Just found the music a little loud for chatting with friends.
Great place was just a little frustrating having a large party without separate bills.
Way too loud. Hard to have a conversation in the restaurant. But, the food is delicious and worth it. Hope they add some sound barriers or something.
