Located in the financial district is La Carnita’s South Central location in a beautiful two-story heritage building. The upstairs makes for an engaging venue, seating 55 guests with its own bar.
It was so cold upstairs I had to wear my winter coat!
Fantastic food. Lousy service. The servers had a lot of attitude.
Here's the thing. The food was great. Really really good, but I won't go back. The vibe just isn't for me. I think it's for a younger crowd who can deal with the dim lights and loud music. For me having to use the flashlight on my phone to read the menu and yell to be heard isn't my deal. But the food really is terrific.
Fantastic ambiance! Great service and wonderful food!
It's unexpected that the classic nachos, a Mexican restaurant staple, is not available unti 5pm even though it's on the lunch menu. It's also surprising you can get a pitcher of margaritas but not beer - if the restaurant has draft beers and a pitcher with which to serve them, why not offer it accordingly? Be advised! I'd rate higher but for this. Tacos are small but very good.
Awesome people great food. Love the atmosphere. Feels like mexico
Loved the red ceiling design on the second floor! The nachos and the tacos were fantastic, we especially loved the shrimp and cod tacos! Looking forward to returning in the future!
First time I see a place where they refuse to split the bills and ask us to do it...
I’ve had better expat La Carnita before. This Friday, maybe because you guys were short staffed, the service wasn’t friendly I did make reservations but ended up sitting at bar by choice we ordered chicken and baja tacos and and got one each. Which we thought was odd coz we ordered dinner and not apps.
I will go to la carnita again as hoping this is just a one off.
Fantastic food and atmosphere in a great location and prices are fair with friendly and top notch service it’s a winner
Good food good location near theatres.
Our service, dinner and drinks were all excellent - would definitely recommend La Carnita (John St).
I brought my niece and husband here to celebrate his birthday. If I want Mexican, La Carnita is always my go to. The AGM was amazing, she was super friendly and knowledgeable. The ribs are to die for!
Love La Carnita, but my friend and I found it way too loud to have conversation with each other. We had to yell over the music, even after moving away from the speaker. In the end we left to go somewhere else where we could hear each other.
My fave is the chorizo taco
Work lunch - enjoyable as always. Prix fixe menu has a fast turnaround.
We were 8 for dinner on a Saturday night and our reservation was right on time.
Food and drink were delicious and service was excellent.
The restaurant was very energetic but music was much too loud for our crowd.
We will visit again but maybe at an off peak time in order to enjoy a conversation.
Amazing food, big portions
Great food but the service was a bit slow.
The portions aren’t consistent with what they give out. For shareable plates we got less than normal. Server wasn’t able to hear us because music was too loud - also not attentive. Overall, food was good and the drinks were yummy - just wish the service was little more attentive.
Great food, affordable menu. Great atmosphere and music. Good service!
The music was very loud hip hop which made it difficult to talk.
The lunch specials are always a great deal. Extremely slow service especially since they weren’t that busy. Food was cold by the time we got it... waiter was mediocre.
Best Margs and Tacos in Toronto!!! We went for a late-night snack and everything was amazing!
Delicious and very reasonably priced. Shrimp taco is hands-down my favourite. Highly recommend.
Delicious, as usual! Friendly staff, quick to get our orders out and yummy! Our go to spot in Toronto.
Initial drink order and appetizers were delivered quickly - as were subsequent taco orders. All were delicious and fresh! Other rounds of drinks were staggered and somewhat haphazard. Table maintenance was non-existent (I.e. dirty plates and dozens of empty glasses left on the table for our entire visit). Our server seemed disgruntled to say the least. We were celebrating the holidays with cocktails and a bite to eat after work, but were not treated as such. We were also billed out without anyone checking in to see if anyone wanted anything else. Went elsewhere afterwards and spent additional hundreds of dollars. Great food, fun atmosphere weak service.
Great food but hate how they bring it out. We had a table of 8 and everyone ordered 3 tacos. Trying to remember which taco is which is awful.
Food has declined since they first opened. Tacos were not flavourful, tuna ceviche tostada was awful as the tuna was definitely not fresh. The only good item that we ordered was the Miami style carne Asada skewers. Service was spotty as well. Definitely a pass the next time around
Best Mexican food I’ve ever had. Lively ambiance, young crowd and great staff.
Will go again!
Service was a little slow following up after dinner for us to get the cheque. Otherwise great
Great ambiance and food, but sub par service

I had the best time at La Carnita !! My boyfriend was visiting from Ottawa and he loves tacos and a friend actually recommended the restaurant! I was nervous because I wanted him to love it, and he DID. The food was absolutely delicious, I’m still thinking about the tacos I had (the carnitas). It was also super reasonably priced! The restaurant space itself is super funky and they played great music, we were bopping all dinner! Our server was super friendly and quick but not overbearing at all! It was an awesome date spot, funky but not too fancy with great food. I can’t wait to go back !!
Food was great !! Sever was great! A bit cold where we were sitting.
We had a good time at La Carnita before our show. The hostess was rude when I asked for the table next to the original one we wanted because it was right next to the front door. She reluctantly gave it to us, saying that we were going to be colder at the other table (which she was wrong). Our server was fantastic and redeemed the experience for us! Definitely worth repeating for the food. Maybe better training for the hostess.
Food was good. Noise level made it impossible to have a conversation and i left the restaurant with a headache.
Service was very casual, very casual. I guess i am old fashion and prefer it less cool and more professional. I would like to be served what i ordered and would expect that everyone receives the food at the same time. In our case, group of 7; over 30 min between first and last person.
I went to the John St. location On a Sunday night with a friend. The place was busy but there were some free tables, so not crazy.
I ordered two different tacos and liked one so I ordered a second portion that came way too full of lime. The line was overpowering the taste of the dish (the tacos had also quite a bit of lime but this second waaay too much). The shrimp taco was ok, I knew it would have been spicy but again I found and imbalance of the flavors that in my opinion spoiled the dish. I have been to la Carnita before but this time they disappointed me. Also, another small thing: when I go to the restaurant I like some sort of care for the restrooms. I entered the first bathroom and found no toilet paper, so I entered the second .. same thing! Thankfully I spotted a roll in a piece of furniture just outside the restrooms and I grabbed it without having to bother the busy people working. The server was nice so no complaints on that side.
