This charming and intimate restaurant serves a generous and creative fresh market cuisine, cheerfully prepared by chef-owners Marc De Canck and Olivier de Montigny. At La Chronique, the pleasures of the table are always front and centre. But in addition to the delights it serves up, the restaurant is also known for its extensive wine list, welcoming décor and impeccable service. Little wonder it's been considered "essential eating" in Montreal since 1995.
We had the tasting menu, which was very good. However, dishes came at very long intervals. The waiters were a bit distracted when bringing drinks to the table. Otherwise, they were very kind.
A bit over-rated but a nice experience overall. It was worth it for the deal (mtl a table) but I wouldn't go back at regular price. I enjoyed the appetizer and dessert very much but my main meal was disappointing (Lamb shoulder). The portions are small but it allowed me to eat everything and not be over stuffed. The wine parings were very good and a nice touch.
It is a great restaurant. Food is excellent. service is great. Though I did not like their wine pairing for the foes gras.
Outstanding food and experience. Will certainly go back!
We loved it, we will be back for sure! We are still talking about it, a must try!
Excellent food for Mtl á Table. Great service and ambiance is super nice.
Food is simply great - out of the ordinary, tasty, innovative, prepare with care and very well presented.
Service is good but when it gets crowded, it looses its charm and the wait becomes marginally acceptable.
Of course, we will go back but avoid crowd or for the owners, plan for busy time as it is not pleasant to have to wait for 30 minutes for coffee and then another 10-15 minutes for the bill - a 45 minutes we could invest differently.
We came for my mom’s birthday as a party of 4.
The table was nicely dressed, the music was not too loud and to our taste.
The waiters were exceptional. They knew everything about anything on the menu and they gave us an excellent service.
The food was really good and the wine excellent.
My meal was very good, excellent corn soup and duck entree and my husband’s starter of scallops was very good as well but his halibut was tasteless and very garishly presented. It was not inedible but he did not like any part it it. No one asked how things were while we were eating and when his plate was cleared and he said it was not good, he received a shrug of the shoulders and a bill for $48. Nothing was said or done. And very long wait between courses with odd mixture of warm and cold bits in the dishes. We would not go back at those prices.
Always outstanding !
On n’a oublié nos plats principaux
We had the tasting menu with wine pairings. The food and wine were flawless. We were seated at an out of the way table on the second floor, which was very romantic, but at times we felt a little forgotten about as our servers appeared to have had tables downstairs as well. The biggest disappointment was that, at the end of the meal, their credit card machine declined several of our credit cards—but a call to our bank did not show any requests, so clearly it was a problem with their system not on our end. I had to run several blocks to an ATM to get cash.
Great food, not good position - felt like we were eating on the landing/corridor. Very slow between courses but speeded up when we said we were falling asleep!
Best Lunch menu in Montreal! You have to try it!
Reservation system easy; restaurant even accommodated an addition of 2 people; very accommodating of dietary restrictions/allergies. We chose the 5-course meal for four people, which was more than adequate. Four out of the five dishes were just outstanding (the foie gras on top of the delicious magret de canard was not as great). The first dish (tuna tartare and sashimi tuna) and dessert (a number of wonderfully surprising morsels of sweetness) were truly outstanding. All in all a great experience for my birthday dinner! Thank you!
I had and evening meal from the a la carte menu as a party of four. This was an excellent dining experience. The environment was relaxed and stylish. The staff were attentive but not intrusive. The food was also very high quality, I would give it 4.5 stars if I could, I only avoid giving it 5 star because at this level I have had meals where every course was exceptional, in this case one course was very good but not exceptional. I suspect that if I had chosen the tasting menu I would be giving a perfect score.
The wine list is excellent with many wines that are difficult to obtain. The sommelier picked a bottle of red for our meal and choose a wine that was both wonderfully complex, good value and a perfect pairing for my food.
I would definitely return here to eat.
I was just disappointed when I asked if they had a choice of cheese platter; specially that it’s a French restaurant, They didn’t have any to offer us; I was disappointed so were our friends.
Also a variety of bread and bread sticks, crackers would have been appreciated too.
Extraordinary. We did the 5 course meal. Oliver our waiter was superb and attentive just enough. Olivier was very friendly and welcoming as our chef. Highly recommend La Chronique.
Very good restaurant a must !
Had good food but asked for a cold mineral wine. Had three glasses for three people. When the bill arrived the wine was $27.50 a glass. Typical sleazy resto scam. Three glasses of wine representing 30% of the bill is why I will never return. The food is not good enough to obviate this. To bad. It’s a resto of huge reputation. The fois gras was the best I’ve ever had. Service was great. Got scammed on the wine. Was it worth ripping me off?
Excellent, as always. One of the very best fine dining experiences in Montreal.
Best lunch in the city you can’t go wrong.
Just fantastic. Food, wait staff and vibe was awesome.
juxtaposition of flavors and finaly badly executed dishes, on the top of it extreamly bad service!
go somewhere else, like Pastel or l atelier is still good even without joel robuchon....
