The service was absolutely fantastic. But starting with the fact that they were out of Macallan 12 after everyone else got their drinks was a telling sign. The $325 each for the 2 Tomahawk steaks was like burning money. Both requested medium, one came out rare. It was served family style so you just can’t really cook it more so it ended up being a well done mess. Both were generally lacking flavor. When seasoning (Rosemary I think) and the taste of the grill (mmm charcoal) dominate the flavor profile, something is seriously wrong. The 5lb lobster (@ $50/lb) saved the night. It was cooked perfectly and was surprisingly sweet for being so big. The place is huge, very energetic and maybe we should have ordered individual steaks. All I can say is that for the money (over $1,400 for 5 with tip) there are many other steakhouses that we prefer.
Trop cher pour ce que c’est et nous avons mangé le bœuf Wagu et avons tous les 2 été malades le lendemain.
My husband and I don't typically dine at places like La Queue de Cheval because it's not in our budget. Eleven years ago we dined here with friends. Our friends loved it so much they bought us a gift certificate and 10 years ago we dined here again. This past January my husband was diagnosed with cancer and since January our lives have been a roller coaster. Two weeks prior to coming to Montreal for our annual trip a scan showed my husbands tumor didn't go away as well as expected it to. At that time he was scheduled for a very complex surgery, which of course, happened to be when we were to go to Montreal. Because of the complexity of the surgery we seeked a second expert opinion and that opinion was we were possibly jumping the gun on the surgery so to go under surveillance for now AND go to Montreal. We so needed this fun time away. Considering all the circumstances I decided we needed to splurge...and return to La Queue de Cheval. I wanted quality and ambiance. A quiet, romantic setting to spend time with my husband as I previously remembered. We were surprised to see the building moved, but no big deal. While we dined we were dismayed by the screaming and swearing coming from the owner to the cooks. We have never experienced a situation like this and sadly it ruined our last evening in Montreal. It was impossible to carry on any conversation with my husband besides about what we were seeing, because of the noise level, the tense staff, the constant bumping into our chairs, etc. I believe the food and wine were very good, but I didn't get to enjoy it or my husband as I intended to. At the end of the night we had a $646 bill to listen to constant staff belittlement. I wish we could have a redo at another restaurant to get the quality time I was looking for.
Service was impeccable. Fantastic atmosphere. Watching the action in the kitchen was great! Excellent seafood and our steaks were cooked to perfection. Will definitely be back.
Awesome food. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Would definately return.
We’ve been going to that place every year. This year we were very disappointed. All steaks came out cold with a poor service on top of it. For the money they charge they should be getting 5 stars instead of 1. They lost another good customer.
We were there for race week. I have been there several times and the food/service has always been on point. This year was different. They raised prices significantly for the weekend and it seemed either they were overbooked or understaffed. Bread never came out until we asked, oysters came out with no sauces, steak came out mostly over cooked and cold. Also the thickness of the steak was considerably thinner than last year. They did the right thing by removing several items from the bill but we will not be back. The place has just gotten too “Ritzy” for our taste. We came with a party of 10 and we all felt the same way. By the way..make sure you ask for regular wine list. Otherwise you get a reserve wine list with wines starting at $300 per bottle.
One of the best dining experience I had in Montreal
The service was quick when we got there. The wedge salad and the chocolate lava were good. My Husband’s steak there was no taste. My steak tasted and smelled to beefy. People beside us left after there salad (no idea why). The servers started to swear at one another. No one came to see how our main meal was. After the cleared our main meal it took a long time to get coffee and dessert. Our bill also took a long time. When leaving at the door the staff were to business swearing at ear other ( there were about 4-5 of them) no one opened the door for us and didn’t even thank us for coming. We will not be turning.
The servers were very attentive and pleasant. We were not rushed, and were encouraged to relax and take our time. Great wine list but pricey. The food was good, but not outstanding. For the prices they charge, we expected more...
Incredible service and outstanding food!
Occasion, 40 th wedding anniversary.
Was very disappointed in quality of meat.
Service and food were top notch!
Went here for dinner while in Montreal!! Very good...our waiter Charlie was awesome!!
The food was amazing, it’s not the type of place you go to for value as the price of certain meats they carry is high, but you go in there knowing that. The noise level with music was too loud for us. I felt we couldn’t have good conversation without yelling across to each other. The food and service were amazing though.
What a wonderful place and beef so good staff and boss
Nous avons passé une belle soirée!
Fantastic evening sitting at the downstairs bar. Great scene. Great bartenders!
Great service good food.
Fantastic service, delicious food, great atmosphere. Will visit again
Wonderful place with an excellent service! Wine list is very decent, and food its delicious!
Celebrating 70th birthday. Staff was accommodating and fun.
Food was as usual fantastic. Tried something that I have never tried before, Beef Wellington, and it was fantastic.
Excellent friendly perfect for a special occasion
The food was amazing and the service awesome our server make our experience truly a joy I’ll never go anywhere else this is my favourite place
Definetly an amazing spot in Montreal to have a sublime date or anniversary celebration.

My wife and I has a amazing dining experience at the “Q” . The service was at a level we had not experienced before and the food was outstanding. We cannot wait to return !
Absolutely our favorite restaurant in Montreal. WE Actually plan trip from Ottawa to dine there
glad to have them back
Wouldn’t recommend at all. Chaotic. Took 10 minutes to receive menus and 20 to receive drinks. Waiters having rows with kitchen staff and then snarky responses from waiters when leaving, despite having actually paid for the drinks so reluctantly received. Save your money. Go to someone else, who will actually be appreciative of your hard earned cash
great service. new shrimp dish was fantastic. everutyhing as good as always
Love the new menu options! The atmosphere is as great as I remember.
Beaucoup trop dispendieux . La cuisson des viande était horrible , les saignants était bleu et froid, médium était calciné . Le vin 3 fois le prix normal. Service incroyable malgré les disputes entre les Serveurs. 500$ par couples très mal investi.
We went while we were vacationing in Montreal as a late Valentine's special dinner. I had the filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly. The sides are large enough to share and we were waited on hand and foot from the second we walked in until the moment we left. Definitely recommend this restaurant for a nice date night or special occasion. The menu is pricey but worth it for celebrating something special
VERY disappointed- the first course was great- Oysters, Salmon Sashimi , Sea Urchin and crab cocktail. My entree was not great I had asked for my Salmon entree to be cooked Med/ Well it came out raw the bartender didn't come back over to see how our entrees we're he was too busy with the rich folks next to us and when he finally did I told him about my salmon being raw he offered us a free dessert and what I thought was him taking off the Salmon from the bill - which is the right thing to do. However he charged us for the badly prepared Salmon and for the desserts. The bartender was not very good at listening or multi taking more concerned about who was going to give him a big tip- I was more bent then my boyfriend so I didn't tell the manager- I should have. The bartender was money hungry and slimy about the way he charged us he turned it around to say he never said that the desert we wanted was on the house for the entree disaster. The bill was heafty but we knew that going in - the value and service NOT WoRTH it - go downtown to old Montreal to Hambar so much better !!!!
Excellent food , great ambience, professional service
Steak was terrible and I ordered a baked potatoe that came out of the kitchen hard and wet. I could not wait to leave.
On a super bien mangé, franchement c'est de la bonne nourriture et on le sent à chaque bouchée. Ma copine est moi étions plus que satisfait du service et de la nourriture, nous avons passé un très bon moment. Merci pour tout.
Third time back. First in the new location. Would and have recommended over and over. Service from Charlie was impecable.
Bar downstairs was beautiful.
This was my first time eating here and i honestly would probably come back. It was also my first time trying oysters and they were great. The side of mushrooms, pickles and asparagus we had were all tops in quality and flavour. My only concern really was the fact that it took over 45 minutes and several attempts to get our bill. It ended up being a three hour experience and that soured it. We asked on numerous occasions for the bill and were told over and over that there was no rush. When i ask for a bill i am looking to leave. Almost felt like our table of 5 was delayed getting a bill to keep the appearance of the restaurant being busier than it really was. We had made reservations a week out but could have easily been seated as a walkin.
