La Sardine is a West Loop staple serving classic French comfort food for Lunch and Dinner. This first-rate bistro is decorated with warm cherry-wood accents and brick walls compliment vibrantly painted columns. La Sardine features classic French dishes ranging from Escargot à la Bourguignonne, French Onion Soup, House-made Charcuterie, Lyonnaise Salad, Bouillabaisse, Steak Frites and the best Soufflés in the city. La Sardine offers an extensive French wine list that is approachable but will intrigue even the most die-hard Francophiles. La Sardine has daily specials Monday through Friday that include half priced bottles of any wine on the list on Mondays, a $38 prix fixe dinner on Tuesdays, and dollar oysters at the bar on Fridays. In addition, La Sardine offers a happy hour Mon-Thurs from 5-7 with $1 oysters and wine and beer deals.
Excellent French bistro ambiance. Very good food, friendly and efficient service. Excellent wine list and wine by the glass. Overall outstanding experience, very good value. I would gladly go back.
A wonderful anniversary dinner at our favorite restaurant.
We were last at Le Sardine 10 years ago. It just seemed this time quite stale. Everything was just ok. I'd probably not choose to go here again.
This was the best Bistro experience that we had since we lived in Europe. We highly recommend.
Dinner was fabulous! I had the scallops with lentils that were outstanding! The seasoning in the sauce was exceptionally delicious! My husband had leg of lamb which was also very good and our friends enjoyed the halibut. Our desserts were also incredibly delicious! We shared the chocolate cake and apple tart. Truly delicious dinner!!
Excellent as always! We have been going to LaSardine for over 20 years; Dan is the very best waiter! We highly recommend the restaurant.
We love John the bartender!!
Service at this venue is just awful. Food wasn’t bad. Ambience is lovely. Wouldn’t come back
Very good food and service by Dan.
Love La Sardine. Great food. Adorable atmosphere. Nice wine selection. TERRIBLE service. TERRIBLE>
I sat at the bar while I waited for my friend to arrive. I walked in ahead of two men who also sat at the bar. The bartender placed waters and menus in front of the men...nothing to me. Nothing. After 5 minutes of no visual interaction, I asked one of the men at the bar if they could get the bartender's attention...which they did. Then the bartender gave me a drink menu. The men received the drink menu, the happy hour menu and the dinner menu. I asked to borrow the missing menus from the men, which they happily provided. I tipped the bartender, an act which I regret.
Our waiter on Monday night was equally horrible. He totally ignored us. We had to flag down other servers to order our meal and our drinks. Our waiter never smiled...except when he presented us with the bill.
Note to La Sardine: you might want to re-think the employment of the bartender and the frazzled waiter.
A great menu, all dishes were excellent, my only complaint was that it took an inordinate amount of time to get coffee at the end.
Booked this for our anniversary dinner and had a wonderful meal and great service! This was our fist time at this French restaurant and the food was authentic and delicious. The service was terrific and they made us feel special. We dined relatively early on a Wednesday evening and do not know what it is like on a weekend. However, I would not hesitate to try it. The menu is online.
Muy agradable lugar comida y servicio bueno en grneral
Our experience was amazing as always. La Sardine never disappoints. The staff is well trained and the food is exquisite.
We love La Sardine!! It is our go to for special occasions Unfortunately, there is a ghastly light coming into the restaurant now that pours over most of the dining room - it seems like it is from the parking garage next door and it ruined the ambiance for now. Would recommend to hide it or something. Service was great as usual.
The food and the service was great. But overall it is over priced.
We planned an impromptu dinner with friends and had a wonderful time...will definitely be back soon!
Wonderful lunch. Great value. The desserts were fantastic. Try all the flavors of ice cream! The best in the city!!
Very good ratings in all categories as indicated above. Bottled iced tea was a disappointment; dessert soufflés were a big plus.
We had a very enjoyable evening. We arrived right on time and were seated immediately. Server was attentive, but not intrusive. My wife had the onion soup (said it was the best she's ever had) I had the Salad Lyonnaise--poached egg was perfect. We shared the cassoulet and ordered a souffle for dessert both were outstanding.
3rd or 4rth time at La Sardine.. everytime has been outstanding! I usually get there 15-30 minute before my reservation and have a happy hour dozen of oysters at he bar ($1 each) with a cocktail. The bartenders mix excellent cocktails. For dinner the menu although limited is very good and everything on there is priced very reasonable relative to the quality of the food and the service is really impressive too.
Great place to go before going to a show or event especially around the west loop. They do have valet but I have never had an issue finding parking around there.
Wonderful French bistro. Menu items for every taste. Well prepared and presented. Thoughtful staff.
Restaurant had a little issue with our table and they weren’t able to get us seated until 30 min after our reservation but they were extremely generous with complementary cocktails and appetizers. It was an honest mistake and they more than made up for it. The service throughout the dinner was great and the food here is always outstanding
The cooking of the steak is fine but the quality of the meat needs reconsideration.
The food, always good, was exceptionally good last Wed. Service was also excellent, as usual.
Their French Onion Soup is outstanding
Excelente comida atencion y precio regresare muy pronto
Food is very good but would be better if all at the table were served at same time and if the food was warm when served...don't recommend sending back to be "warmed" as it is significantly effected by the microwave. Service was, at best, inattentive.
Food is excellent; service not so much. Bartender was not attentive at all and the waitress was worse.
We ordered our appetizers, they came quickly but our actual meals did not arrive until 45-1 hour later because of a chicken plate my mom ordered that needed time to be done. With that said my husbands steak and fries came out COLD and my soup was only luke warm. The service was horrible given how delayed our food was and how we had to check in with the waiter twice. Can’t believe my husband had to eat cold steak
Excellent experience as always. Our waiter, Dan, took great care of us-making great suggestions for dinner and wine. The restaurant was noisy, but that's a given on a busy Friday night. We go there often, and have never been disappointed.
This is a consistently excellent restaurant. Even though this was a very busy Friday evening, everything flowed in a timely manner. They manage theirs reservations well too, so that there weren't hoards of people waiting to be seated.
Very nice dinner! Food was great and wine great as usual.
Very enjoyable bistro atmosphere with excellent standard as well as less common fare. Pleasant attentive staff with charming owners' participation, sometimes even in French.
La Sardine was very interesting, I loved the decor and open kitchen in the rear of the restaurant. We tried to order some of the classic french appetizers like sardines, but they did not have them. I know that La Sardine is a french restaurant but the wine list was exclusively of French wines and had very little options for white wine, which was disappointing.
Many of the principle dishes were meant for two so our group ended up trying these options. The beef wellington was delicious with asparagus that was the best I've ever eaten. The other two person meal was of dover sole with caviar beurre blanc sauce and green beans. The fish was delicious but the sauce was not a true beurre blanc and had little flavor and was thickened with flour.
The dessert souffles were very good and a nice to share for a group.
I love La Sardine! I did think that the food was solid but not outstanding and a little pricier than the it should have been... esp the boullibaise. The service was good... asked for more bread but it never came. It’s such a charming place so easy to let it go but since OT is asking:)
Fantastic all around
Fantastic dinner! We had the steak frites with sauce au poivre which was cooked perfectly and the sauce was delicious. We also had poulet D’ ete (green circle chicken) it was very good. With a nice bottle of wine (which our waiter helped us pick) it was a wonderful meal.
Highly recommend La Sardine.
Lovely food, great waiter, but a group of 10 very noisy people were seated behind us halfway through dinner , and from that point on, we could not carry on a conversation. Plus service slowed down a lot. Other nights have been much more pleasant, so will try again.
Dining at La Sardine with family is always memorable.
