In addition, La Sardine offers a happy hour Mon-Thurs from 5-7 with $1 oysters and interesting wine flights.
Fantastic dinner! We had the steak frites with sauce au poivre which was cooked perfectly and the sauce was delicious. We also had poulet D’ ete (green circle chicken) it was very good. With a nice bottle of wine (which our waiter helped us pick) it was a wonderful meal.
Highly recommend La Sardine.
Lovely food, great waiter, but a group of 10 very noisy people were seated behind us halfway through dinner , and from that point on, we could not carry on a conversation. Plus service slowed down a lot. Other nights have been much more pleasant, so will try again.
We had an absolutely wonderful expereince here. Started with beer and processors. The had the soup fo the day_yummy- and mussels - exceptional. We then split the Dover sole. One of the best preparations we have ever had. Accompanied by a very nice cote de Rhône. Evening ended with ice cream and espresso Terrific service made it a very nice night.
Service was very attentive and every dish was absolutely delicious! Can't wait to go back.
We had a party of 10, celebrating a b-day. the food was served in a timely manner; it was presented beautifully, served hot, and absolutely delicious!
Fantastic restaurant with great food, great atmosphere and great wine. We stopped by for dinner before seeing an opera and it made the night all that much more special. Pistachio soufflé at the end of a fabulous meal was absolutely delicious. 10/10 would recommend for those nights where you want an extra special flare for dinner.
We had a delightful evening and a table of 11. Service was great and food was very good. We dined with friends from out of town and celebrated one of there birthdays!!
We will come back. You can go for any occasion. Sound level was not bad!!
Outstanding French Onion Soup! Food was delicious. It’s a bit loud for conversation once it fills up, but we will definitely be back in the future.
No chocolate mousse
Every course was delicious. The best onion soup I’ve ever had. Great variety of wines and great service.
Soo good. My family thoroughly enjoyed the birthday 70th dinner party. Will be back!
Best French onion soup in the city.
This is a fairly high-end restaurant in Chicago, yet continues to have a feel of a "local gem." Very comfortable and welcoming space.
Delicious food! Can not wait to go back to this restaurant and bring guests to experience it.
We're their with kids and grandparents for dinner, La Sardine came to mind as we remembers their tasty seafood and the Souffle desserts.
Reservations was made couple days before and they were very accommodating in terms of our requests - round large table for the 7 of us and last minute time changes. If you decide to dine here, reservations is highly recommend.
While the service team did well, the kitchen was a different story.
This visit invalidated everything we remembered about La Sardine being tasty.
Everything, I mean everything we ordered were salty. Lobster bisque, Steak special, Seafood special, even the La Bouillabaisse... If it wasn't for the bread & wine our food basically weren't consumable.
Manager came by midway through our meal, asked how everything went, we of course told him about the salty experience and he acknowledged that we weren't the only customer who complained about the bisque / entree being salty and will let the chef know. He was going to take the Lobster Bisques off our bill, instead when the check came, our desserts were taken off instead of the soups.
Appreciate the nice gesture from management, but deliver what you promised. I didn't ask for the discounts but don't tell me you are going to something but did something else instead. He never came back for a second time.
Our waiter was nice, he offered decent recommendations and we didn't feel being rush as others mentioned in their review.
Will probably go back for their happy hour special when in the area but not sure about dinner ...
The service was excellent. The wine was fine. The escargot was good, the salmon was dry and bland, the souffle was excellent. So, excellent on all counts, except the main course. I've been many times and this was an exception. No doubt I'll dine there again and hope that it's as good as I've grown to expect.
What an amazing meal! From the charcuterie to the soufflé every dish was very well executed! I’m in the business and I was very impressed with everything we will definitely be back!
Such a disappointment. For the 5 of us the food was tasteless and the Bouillabaisse certainly frozen. They were out of the bottle of wine we ordered from the wine list and out from the Armagnac ordered from the digestive list. It is probably the time for that restaurant to update the menu. Also the service was borderline. We won’t go there for anymore
It’s a nice place and well located. There is a valet service. We were welcomed and seated within a few minutes after our arrival. The table was not ideal as we were in the middle of the traffic (waiters going from one side to another). I would recommend rearrange this slightly differently.
The food was excellent, we ordered “escargots” and “moules” (mussels) those were delicious as appetizers. Then we ordered “boeuf Wellington “, pithivier de Canard and Bouillabaisse. The first is beef medium rare with a crust of ham, the second was a duck and the third seafood dish. All good choices. The service was good.
We would recommend this restaurant
Very charming neighborhood restaurant. Service, food and ambiance were on point. The tables are very close to each other and most of the menu is pricey, but it's a great spot for a special occasion.
Lovely place. Just the right size. I had the Denver lamb chop. I haven't had lamb in eons, but had a bunch this would be good and it was perfect. Best of all was the cocktail I had.. Penicillin. Yup... Everything was just fine after that concoction😀 My husband was feeling no pain either and enjoyed his meal and overall experience as well!
Great atmosphere and good food. A little salty but the drinks were strong so it made up for it haha
Great prix fixe menu on Tuesday’s.
The only downside to the dining experience is that there is no sound abatement in the restaurant. If you have a large group in the restaurant, it can get very loud quickly.
Wonderful food, service, and soufflé! We will be back again
My husband and I went on a Saturday night. It was very crowded but we were seated at our reservation time. There is not a lot of room to wait for your table - small bar and not much room to stand. I thought the food was great but not sure we got our money's worth. We had the oxtail appetizer, scallop entrée special and the chicken dish. All was very tasty. The wine was very good but no bottles under $50.
Always enjoy La Sardine for its authenticity. We were well taken care of. The Boeuf Wellington was tasty but quite salty.
Absolutely delicious. It's pretty pricey so it is not somewhere we can go frequently. But every dish was fantastic. Highly recommend it!
Food was cold, appetizer and main course
Food was delicious. Of course we got the soufflé's, but it was so much for two, next time I will explore alternative desserts. We were there on a busy Friday night, so service was good, but all servers seemed to be rushed. It has a bistro feel to it, but be warned - tables are close together and you may be hearing the conversation at the next table better than the one at your table.
Beef Wellington and escargot were excellent.
Went there for Valentines day. And i was so embarrassed that i chose to take my wife there! Horrible Horrible place the worst and careless service we’ve ever encountered! Waited way too long for drinks the ice was already melted so you can imagine how long we waited and they sat at the bar waiting to be picked up. The food was cold and chewy so probably it stayed out a while too. It truly was such a disappointment! One plus was desert was great, but that didn’t matter after the horror we encountered before that. Well remember this ridiculous place for a long time.
Valentine's Day is so busy, but the crew at La Sardine didn't miss a beat. Everything was wonderful!!
Valentine’s Day dinner at La Sardine - we had an early reservation so we got right in and were seated promptly. Service was very good, friendly and knowledgeable. We didn’t feel rushed which happens too often at some places. Good cocktails. Scallops appetizer wasn’t clearly described as tartar which surprised us, I loved it but my wife wouldn’t touch it and she was looking forward to it. Entrees - I had the duck, essentially a duck meat pot pie, and it was phenomenal. One of the tastiest meals I’ve had in a while. My wife’s chicken was good, very juicy and well done but sort of plain. Soufflé for dessert was also fantastic. Overall a very pleasant dining experience, we would go back.
We had not been in a few years. Loved it when we lived in the city. Now that we are back, we will go more often. Great bistro food. Steak Frites. Steak is very good but frites are stupendous. Bouillabaisse, really good, deep flavor. Just go.
Went here for lunch on my birthday and the food was great! Our server (Dave) was very accommodating and made my birthday very special!
Perfect as always. Great staff, wonderful service, really delicious food and, half price Champagne on a Monday!
La Sardine is one of my wife and my very favorite restaurants in Chicago. On our last visit on February 11, 2019, service, ambiance, and value were outstanding. The Pouilly Fume recommended by our server was superb. We thoroughly enjoyed the mushrooms, duck rillets, bread, chicken, and sardine salad. However, the steak tartare was a shock. From 2012 to 2015, my wife and I lived/worked in Europe. I have had steak tartare (locally called steak americain) across the Continent. The La Sardine version was smashed flat across a bed of (cream?) cheese. The meat was bland, and the overall taste was cloying and sweet--nothing close to an authentic French steak tartare, and unappealing, both taste-wise and visually. We will return to La Sardine for sure, but, hopefully, in the future, it will offer an authentic steak americain.
The food is tremendous
Don't miss the Oxtail
We continually have a good experience at LaSardine.
Food & wine is memorable and service spot on.
