This was a great place for dinner for 15 people. There were a handful of other large groups in the basement and it was hard to hear each other. The wait staff is very professional and the kitchen excellent. This worked out well.

Charming restaurant and I expected better. The appetizers were very good, but when the entree came out my veal rolled in eggplant was actually cold. It was obvious it has been made earlier in the day and after being plated they forgot to put it in the oven. My family was enjoying their meal, so I did not want to be “that guy who sends the food back”. Dessert was very good but after they cleared the entrees they forgot to bring out silverware. We sat staring at our desert for a while as the icecream melted. With attention to detail it could have been a great meal. Instead, it was a charming disappointment.

La Viola West was AMAZING. My friend and I had dinner before heading out for a concert. We made a reservation and upon arrival were seated promptly and our wine bottle was opened immediately. The service was friendly, quick, and organized. We even were greeted by the owner! He even made a point to hug us on the way out. The food was made fresh and was delicious. We will be coming back very very soon!

It was a wonderful experience.! We celebrated my daughters 18 birthday. The food was delicious and served so hot!! Great value for the price. We especially enjoyed our visit with Dominic.

We much appreciated the service at La Viola Ovest; the managerial and wait staff were uniformly friendly, helpful, and attentive. They were also very fast; we reserved for 5:45 and were out by 6:40. This made for a slightly rushed experience. The menus (regular and winter) were appetizing and the homemade pasta (tagliatelle and black linguine) were good, but everything was drowned in sauce, both salads and pasta. Authentic Italian food has a better balance, in my experience.

I have been going to La Viola West for 15 to 20 years. The service and quality of the food have always been consistently good. It is so nice to see the same staff there who remember you and greet you with a warm smile. (It is family owned). I have taken many friends and relatives there who visit from out of town and they always ask to go back to 'that restaurant' in Philly. I am always pleased when I leave there.

The staff were very pleasant and helpful and in fairness, they had a large event they were dealing with. However, they served us burned bread, undressed salads and unseasoned proteins. The tomato sauce and tiramisu were superb, but the rest sadly middling.

La Viola West gets 5-stars from me because its a no-nonsense, real restaurant, dedicated to serving extremely well prepared meals, starting with high quality fresh product. Its not a pseudo "hip" bar scene pretending to be a restaurant, with music so loud you can't have a conversation with the person or group with whom you are dining. The fish, meat and poultry do not taste frozen. the salads taste fresh and not pre-prepared and sitting in the refrig waiting to be taken out and served as ordered. You can taste the base food product, enhanced by the sauce, as opposed to being tasteless food, disguised by being overly sauced. The portions fit the price and are satisfying (frankly I am tired of either over-priced small plates of microscopic portions, or the other extreme, of expensive but large portions of mediocre food). Wait staff have been there a long time and are interested in making dining there a pleasure; they understand their job and act accordingly. They do not give the patrons attitude or act as if they are really above their job and the patrons they are supposed to serve. Owners are there and keeping a watchful eye and speaking with the tables, and are not off as unknown, unseen investors, with a name branded operator, who never shows but has a kindergardn aged manager walking around being too kool for school. This is a restaurant for adults who are interested in a quiet, friendly, home style "old school" experience, with very good food, not designed to try to be hip or Phila's version of LA.

La Viola offered great food options at good prices. I loved the pasta especially. The atmosphere was quiet but great for friends. My one suggestion is that I wish they weren't cash only; it was inconvenient to go to the ATM. Overall, I would recommend this place to a friend!

Had reservation for a Monday night at La Viola West with confirmation sent the day before. Discovered when we arrived that La Viola West is closed on Monday nights. La Viola East did have a table available for us but they only take cash and we had no cash. Had to find an ATM. Restaurant should not have taken a reservation for a night they are not open. Otherwise food was excellent.

Terrible experience. First, I asked for wheelchair accessibility. This location has no elevator and is at the top of four steep and narrow stairs. I asked for the accomedations that I requested and I was told to just use the stairs. Frankly, unbelievable and rude. That was not acceptable so I pivotted and went to the location across the street as they could accomedate, in a much less scenic table that was truthfully just a folding table and chairs (a far cry from the picture online). From there, the server was very abrupt and rude and the food was mediocre at best. Finally, please note that it is not advertised on Open Table but this resturant is BYOB and cash only, two things I was not prepared for nor forwarned.
