We had a patio dinner at Lapinou. My wife and I enjoyed the food although the patio felt a bit crowded when full — a minor issue really. The staff was very courteous and attentive. Overall, a wonderful experience. We are definitely coming back in the future.
lovely experience overall. Felt very welcomed upon arrival. Great service. Food was delectable and the ambiance and general decor felt very removed from king street and even Toronto. Great escape and would come again soon!
Lapinou has such a beautiful ambiance. You feel transported the moment you enter the dining room. The live entertainment at Sunday Brunch and Thursday nights are the icing on the cake!
Not a high rating - even though we really wanted to love this place.
Food was delicious.
The preparation could have had some more thought.
The salad leaves had not been chopped and we had some massive pieces in an otherwise delicious dish.
Our cocktails were also flavourful - but they were served in inappropriate glasses with massive ice cubes that made it difficult to drink.
Our server was really friendly and initially attentive.
At the same time, we were never asked to see if we wanted wine with our mains, not offered the proper cutlery with our perfectly cooked Wagu steak, and not asked how are meals were or if we needed anything after our mains….
Just handed a dessert menu without any consideration for the above.
I never leave food reviews.
I either don’t go back or embrace the place like family.
I’m only leaving this in the hopes that the restaurant sees this - we would love to make this our local seeing as the food was really good.
Maybe we’ll try it aging some time in the future.
Everything was very salty… the service was amazing though.
I wish I could give a better review… It was super busy and tables were not distanced at all, so pretty noisy. It’s literally as though you’re eating dinner with the table beside you. Moody lighting and nice vibe/aesthetic, but it was so loud you couldn’t even hear the music the restaurant was playing. I had the squash fritters and malfatti, both of which were good but not incredible. My friend ordered the duck which was *chefs kiss* but the server forgot about her salad, so it didn’t come until the end of our time there (which they were very strictly enforcing). Overall, I don’t know that I would go back. Drinks were bomb but otherwise forgettable.
It was my first time at Lapinou so I booked for chef's experience.
Overall, food tasted okay, portion was smaller than expected and service was very poor.
On Saturday Oct. 16, we got there at 5:40 but when I paid my bill it was before 6:40. The server would kept on trying to take our plates while we were still trying to enjoy our food, so we had to move food that we were working on from a plate to another plate constantly. We refused politely to our server from serving food from dish to our plates (which he ignored) because we wanted to take time to enjoy the previous course that we weren't even done with. He then dropped the main food (it was fish) on the table while serving and served that fish to my plate without an apology. I wouldn't have minded it so much if it wasn't Covid-19 or if I wasn't paying like $100 for that meal.
He rushed us so badly that we didnt get time to take photos of main course. The same server gave us our bill and card machine when I wasn't even finished with my dessert and drink.
Also, I felt very uncomfortable about the fact that he was staring at the card machine while my friend and I were paying. It was one of the worst service that I have received especially for a fine dining restaurant with such a nice ambience, so I didn't wanted to tip my server but then he was staring at the machine the whole time so I got scared to not tip him.
Me and my company was so confused that we even asked the manager that if it was normal for a table to be forced to leave not even an hour after the sitting and he told us that other customers usually get an hour and 45 mins to finish the entire selection and that he was sorry that we had to receive such service. And when we already paid our bill we saw that everyone else who came before or slightly after us were still enjoying their main dish so I don't think that was a usual way for them to serve customers but personally I don't think that I would ever visit Lapinou again.
Tried “chef’s selection” -we had greens salad with focaccia (heaven - fluffy and yummy!). Then one dumpling per person (you could smell the lemon but couldn’t taste it, it was a bit bland). Then fish and beef - both very soft and falling apart, fish was a bit too salty - honestly I could have had one or the other. And then one piece of pastry that we were supposed to share? And cut with a dull dinner knife? That was awfully annoying because it wasn’t though through well. Overall, not bad and maybe my expectations were set too high before coming, because there are some extraordinary places on King st with mouth watering food, and I am quite spoiled. So in comparison - overall impression was okay. If I’m coming back - only for drinks. Service was great, sommelier was amazing, ambiance was nice. Food - meh.
The focaccia bread was delicious! So was the wagyu steak.
The staff was so friendly, so accommodating and so extremely nice and attentive! I absolutely loved my experience! Will visit again!
First let me start by saying the restaurant is beautiful. Gorgeous interior and our server was nice. I understand this restaurant wants to seem like it’s extravagant, expensive dining but it is not. And being on king street I should have accounted for that. I ordered the seafood platter. I repeat “PLATTER” for $70 and all I received was 4 small crab legs, 3 shrimps and 5 oysters.. what a joke. Pretty much paid $70 for a small appetizer and honestly it wasn’t even close to the best seafood I have had. This place is more of a cocktail bar if anything. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone looking to eat. Cocktails did look good though but we had wine. Most likely will not go back.
Still offering excellent food, service, and a nice atmosphere.
Kelly was amazing. Cocktails were delicious, portions were small but typical for French cuisine. Came with my French partner and he was pleasantly surprised!
Amazing service with good food! Mushroom tart pretty good and the beef tartare also. Highly recommend
Firstly, the food was incredible, probably the best food I’ve had in Toronto. Secondly, the service from Kelly was exceptional, he explained to us each dish, and took the time to give us the best experience possible.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to have really quality food and a great experience.
Love this restaurant. Dishes are delightful. Perfect for any occasion and our favourite server Steve, always makes every visit very memorable.
The atmosphere at Lapinou is really enjoyable. I would recommend it as great spot to relax and soak in the vibrant King st energy. It’s a small menu, not much variety, but the dishes we ordered tasted really good. One big detractor for our experience ended up being the service. There were numerous miscommunications with our waiter, who despite was trying their best to be helpful, wasn’t very good at listening which made it an effort for us when talking with them.
Some things were ok not everything ok
Duck not great
Food was served like dim sum
Beautiful place but been to small French restaurants that were much better
We always have a great time at Lapinou. Excellent food and service.
A wine set was amusing. Main dish was delicious. Service was on top. But we took Chef’s experience and everything but main course wasn’t good enough. I think I would have had better experience if I simply ordered from a menu
This was an amazing experience!!!! Our server was fantastic and made the evening so special. Will definitely be back!!!
Portions are very small…
Trying to get back to some sort of normal business life I invited a guest for dinner.
We took the opportunity and selected the chefs tasting with the wine paring and it was amazing. The flavors, freshness and variety were on point each course layering on the previous all of which were delicious. From appetizer to dessert we were thoroughly impressed.
Though the menu would likely always be changing I am certain that you would not be disappointed if you choose this experience.
Awful place. Poorly lit. Over priced and mediocre food. Don’t go to this place
First time there and thoroughly enjoyed it. The menu was interesting and even a little eclectic but ran to the pricier side. However, the food was good, the service superb and the location and ambiance well worth it.
One minor complaint. The French Bistro styled chairs at the rather small tables are equally small and not particularly comfortable; you won't be settling in a for a four hour marathon if seatws on one!
Pasta was tasty, but the duck was tough and the veggies that came with it we’re dry. The drinks were fabulous. I will come back just for that strawberry number. I’m obsessed. Our server was very nice.
Hi end dining experience. Service is excellent. Very professional. Very pricey. We sampled a good portion of the menu. All the dishes were outstanding. I have one complaint ... the chairs are kind of small and not terribly comfortable.
Beautiful place, delicious food, very friendly staff and for my surprise great quality live music during Brunch.
Kelly was an awesome server. Food was a little salty and not outstanding. I would go back for a lively, party dinner before heading out, but it’s not a foodie joint.
Food was okay but came cold and was very overpriced. They also had heaters right beside the tables and when I moved my arm slightly back, I burned myself. I now have a 5 inch permanent scar. Not impressed
Loved the chef experience!
Each dish is designed to achieve a balanced taste and I love every dish we tried!
Service is thoughtful and cheerful! A big thank you to David (hope I got his name right…)! I’ll definitely come back to try the Pairs’ Best!
This is my first time dining here. Will definitely come back and recommend to friends!
The waiter was a good waiter but could have been a lot better. For the time we saw him he was very attentive.
However finding him and getting his attention was tough.
Not sure how many tables he had but need to cut it in half apparently. We let him order which I will take part of the blame for because he didn’t ask if we liked Spicy food and brought two dishes that were hot. I didn’t think of French food as spicy. The desserts were terrible though. He should have asked some questions I think before; like allergies and stuff. We didn’t have any but the spicy one is a big one also don’t care for really sweet deserts. The restaurant was also freezing where we were sitting inside. I thought it was just me until the table beside us wouldn’t take their jackets of either. So we asked for the temperature to be raised. They did but it didn’t start to get warm til the end of the meal. They had the A/C blowing on us.
Lapinou is a must eat! Their tomato salad paired with their beef tartare was the perfect appetizer. The ingredients were extremely fresh and full of great flavour. I chose wagyu steak to finish off the night and by far some of the creamiest steak i have ever had! Absolutely melts in your mouth. The only thing i did not like was amount of steak per plate. Don’t let the beets fool you.
Great service, incredible food and an absolutely cozy patio.
Ambiance was great. Service was ok. We felt very rushed to order and eat. Our appetizer came out with our main dish and then felt rushed to get out while other tables arrived before us and stayed after. Would have appreciated being able to enjoy a few drinks and probably would have ordered desert and more drinks if we didn’t feel like we were being pushed out.
The bar tender, Simon, was excellent. Wine selection was great. Service was great. Food was ok. The seafood platter was disappointingly small for the price. Overall, was ok.
What an experience.. the food was absolutely outstanding, and each dish was beautifully presented. The service was fast and friendly, and our server brought a new set of cutlery and plates with each dish, since we decided to share multiple dishes as recommended to us. The cocktail was a bit pricey but delicious and had a very unique flavour in the best way. The ambience was very nice, we sat outside and despite the usual sounds of downtown traffic, it was an incredible experience overall. Highly recommend!
The wait staff was hurried, basically ignored me when I spoke to them and/or brusque in any responses, and forgot part of our brunch appetizer. We had to remind them we were missing a part of our order and also ask for them to bring milk/sugar back to our table after clearing it without our having finished our tea. Overall, they are severely missing the fact they are in a service industry. I would not recommend.
