We were recommended to try out Lava Rock Bar & Grill. For Hawaii the food wasn’t that great. I live in Texas and it tasted like all the other bar and grills back home. My father got ribs and they masked the dryness of the ribs by dumping a bunch of sauce on them. My brother’s, mom’s, and my food were good, but nothing to die for. I wouldn’t go back again. On the other hand, the service was phenomenal. Our server constantly checked in on us, was always clearing plates, and refilling drinks. They have great deals on appetizers and alcoholic beverages I believe between 3pm-6pm. Lastly, there is minimal seating inside and it is loud inside. If you don’t mind the outdoors, that’s where you’ll probably end up sitting.

The restaurant is upstairs on the second floor (elevator available). Tables are high tops. We had good service - enjoying the cocktails. The POG painkiller is excellent. The ambience is relaxed with open air and nice views. We have eaten here twice during our stay on Maui and had good experiences both times. I recommend the Tropical BBQ ribs which were fall off the bone delicious.

We recently discovered Lava Rock for evenings we spend in Kihei. This is a great casual restaurant with very good food at reasonable prices. We love the two lobster tails and the calamari appetizer! The wait staff are always friendly and efficient even when the restaurant is busy. Mahalo and a hui hou!

The hostess grabbed menus from an occupied table and didn’t have any available for us. It took a long time for our waitress to show up. The food was ok. Server never checked on us before we asked for the check. Would we come here again? Absolutely not!

Service was really slow and we had trouble getting refills on our drinks but the food was good. I had the steak on the lava rock and it was very tasty and fun to finish grilling the meat to the level I wanted. Prices were reasonable compared to other places we have been.

Never had a bad meal here-always delicious! Good value especially on Maui. Server was okay not rude but not too friendly or smiling. Love this place for dinner!

Second floor location so the ocean is in view. Great view of the sunset while we ordered our beers, ahi and dynamite shrimp to start. Just got into town and plan a few more meals here after looking at the good items I still want to try!

We waited for 45 minutes after being seated, with no service at all. We ended up leaving before ordering anything and staff didn’t even seem to care.
