Food prepared at Le Baratin is indeed classic with a modern twist. Classic in a sense of ‘old school’: our sauces are all made in-house, with a veal-based stock. These days, that is very rare. Jean likes the good old way of preparing food - truly, the proper way! Moreover, there is not a bistro in France that doesn’t serve at least 2 out of the 3 desserts we offer: Tarte Tatin, Mousse au Chocolat, and Creme Caramel.
For lunch, the Croque Monsieur is a must-have. French peasant, or street food, is uniquely reinvented here.
Our wine list is mid-priced and extensively curated from France; we offer the best value for the best price. Or, try any of our other cocktails!
I had the boeuf bourguignon and it’s excellent!
The food was delicious! I had the seafood marmite, which was amazing. The portions were perfect. I was so please to be able to converse with my two friends without shouting over any club music, which is so common in TO. Pleasant everything. I want to come back for the steak frites. The prix fixe house made chocolate dessert was the perfect end touch. Thank you. Highly recommend this resto if you want a very good French meal with matching ambience.
Pascal makes the evening spectacular
I was disappointed that the menu was not more "French Bistro". That would likely not be big with the clientele. It seemed that most of the tables were ordering steak-frites which was not prepared as in France. Steak by any other name is still what the patrons want to eat when they go out. I was hoping for an abundance of fresh market vegetables and some traditional offerings such as cassoulet and and coq au vin, but no such luck. Most of the dishes were standard dining out fare, albeit with French names. Sorry, but my tastes are not ordinaire! Yes, I would recommend it to friends who have limited imagination.
We had a great meal at Le Baratin, great recommendations on the drinks and the food was excellent. My only complaint was the fruit flies, a bit annoying but you'll find them anywhere...
Le Baratin is the type of restaurant that I kind of wish to keep to myself...it's so wonderful. But, I also want this place to do very well and be around for a long time. People should be aware that this is excellent french food. Not just good - excellent. The servers were very knowledgable and create an atmosphere that is free of pretence. Just good honest food with fresh seasonal ingredients. I truly love this place.
With good friends the place of gathering didn’t really matter. The waitresses were attentive and they were tireless serving us with the birthday cakes. Those were about the good things regarding this place. The daily special halibut was tasteless and dry. Even I can cook great tasting halibut myself. I won’t be there again.
You are so lovely and welcoming. Everything we ate was delicious. I had a thought about this place, “the kind of place where friends get together and stay for dessert”
Such a charming place with truly incredible food. The chocolate mousse is heaven.
I had steak frites . The frites, onions, sauce and steak were excellent. The glass of wine suggested for me was also excellent.
the dessert was a chocolate truffle which I wish had lasted forever.
A nice restaurant to visit.
Le Baratin is one of my favourite restaurants in the city! They provide great food at great value.
Beautiful meal and warm service! High class food in a relaxed atmosphere. A real gem of a place.
Main course (duck confit with mushroom risotto) was excellent. Starter, selection of cheeses (to share), would benefit by serving more than one small slice of bread with it. Otherwise, nicer overall than I expected!
This was our second time at Le Baratin.
I have serious food allergies, and the staff and chef did everything possible to meet my needs.
I will definitely return.
Our second time to Le Baratin. For the money, it is the best French restaurant in Toronto. The charcuterie was delicious & the game hen with cheesy potatoes was fantastic. Portions are generous and very reasonably priced. It is rare in Toronto to leave a restaurant feeling that you've had a memorable dinner without leaving you broke. Well done!
The food and service was great. Enjoyed my dining experience
Always an amazing experience. The food never disappoints! Great staff. We will definitely be back!
Le Baratin continues to impress with it's simple menu, whether a la carte or classic. Service is always great, daily specials are interesting, and the wine and drink list just works. The best French place overall in the city!
Outstanding. The atmosphere, the service and the food. No pomp or pretension.
Exceptional food taste especially the muscles
Lamb chops would be choice again. The hostess was alone but was attentive though busy. Keep it up. Welldone
A lovely little place, excellent food, very French. Great service
Fantastic service and great; authentic food. Wonderful dining experience. Felt like we were in France !!!
Le Baratin was fantastic! The food was incredible and the service was top notch! The pistachio Creme Brulee was the best dessert I have ever had! Well done Chef!
Overall was great, however the steak was a little hard/chewy.
A little taste of France on Dundas W! It really feels like you're in Paris: we even spoke French with our server! Small bisto menu with chalk board additions seasonally focused: everything we had was delicious. Wine list has interesting choices and reasonably priced. A really great choice for this neighbourhood!
Thank you for this kind review and support. You might want to come back between the 15th and 30th of July we have a special "FrenchLicious" 3 course Menu for 40$. have a great summer!
Great neighbourhood bistro. It is one of my young son’s favourite restaurants.
Amazing food, super friendly service, and great laid back ambience. Definitely will be returning.
Food was delicious and Tuesday night 1/2 price bottles of wine can’t be beat. Our server, Camille was knowledgeable, attentive, and overall delightful. We’ll be back!!!
Best restsurant in Toronto. A taste of France minutes from you...excellent service and the food is amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant. Thank Le Baratin!
Great food but so noisy in such a small space could barely carry on a conversation with the person sitting directly in front of me at a table for 2. Had to keep asking them to repeat and speak loudly. Maybe midweek wd be better than a Fri..
Service was amazing but the food was... okay
This is one of the most charming and delicious places to eat in Toronto.
Always sensational ....never fails to impress
New menu items
Vibrant and welcoming even on a Tuesday
The celeriac salad is magnifique!
Go easy on the cumin
Small intimate restaurant with a fun vibe and good food.
I still can't stop thinking about the wonderful dish I had last night at Le Baratin. The swordfish was cooked perfectly, and the boursin melting on top of it made the whole thing heavenly. I loved the taste of the ratatouille sitting below, absorbing the flavour of the fish. And excellent service too! We're looking forward to our next meal at your beautiful restaurant.
It’s been our favourite date spot for 2 years and they made Jordan’s birthday celebration extra special!
It's hard to recommend this restaurant - it is so wonderful it means I might have trouble getting a reservation down the road! But I will continue to do so. :)
Best french restaurant in Toronto.
The outstanding was perfect.
Cute little spot. Food was good, service was good. It was extremely loud when we visited, can be hard to have a conversation. Also the tables are quite cramped together, I think this contributes to the noise because you're essentially sitting right beside another table with barely enough room for a person to fit between the tables. Value was pretty average, it was about $140 before tip for two people (we shared a starter and shared dessert). Overall would come back but probably would plan to visit at a less busy time as the noise was a bit annoying.
