Le Champlain Restaurant - Fairmont Château Frontenac
Le Champlain is in Quebec City, Quebec and it is a beautiful eatery that is a part of the Fairmont Le Chateau. The restaurant is a classic landmark that offers top quality cuisine thanks to the talents of Chef Stephane Modat. The eatery serves dinner and Sunday brunch. The dress code at the eatery is smart casual.
Le Champlain has some excellent options on the menu that you can try. Some of the appetizers include the citrus grilled octopus, wild ginger oyster cream soup and the smoked sturgeon. Main course options at Le Champlain include the Scandinavian char, elk, roasted lamb loin and roasted guinea fowl.
Service was stellar. Presentation very creative. Food flavour only average, which was disappointing. Over cooked caribou, zero flavour and dry.
The restaurant is very nice and the staff friendly and helpful. We did not do the tasting menu but did 2 appetizers (foie gras was okay but La Continental Restaurant’s was much better ). The scallops were good but wouldn’t order them again. Red deer steak was delicious.

Food was excellent. We had the prix-fixe menu. Service could have been better. One server didn’t announce what was being served until I asked.

The hotel looks so stately and elegant but inside it was as busy and chaotic as Grand Central station. The restaurant was far more subdued and the pace of the five course dinner was relaxed. Although artfully presented, nothing was even close to be the best thing we ever tasted. Plus I felt sick about 4 hours later. The wine pairings were also nothing out of the ordinary with the exception of the ice wine with dessert (which was our least favorite course). I would go for the scenic view of the river and order off the main menu if we ever return.
We’ve eaten here many times. It is quite inconsistent. We were finished with dinner in one hour! We ordered a half bottle of wine and had to take nearly a full glass each back to our hotel room when we left! We elected not to have dessert because of how quickly the appetizer and main courses came out. The food was bland and nothing special. For the nearly $300 paid we expected more. We are big fans of Le Château Frontenac and were extremely disappointed in tonight‘s meal and too quick delivery of the food. The lobster terrine was tasty but the scallops and the cod main plates had no taste. There are incredibly wonderful places to eat in Quebec city and this is not one of them.

Views were spectacular. Ask for seat by window. Food was even better. Though not on menu, they make a wonderful charcuterie board. Seared foie gras melts in your mouth. Scallops were perfectly cooked. Great experience.
The views from the front half of the restaurant are beautiful overlooking the river. The service was outstanding from start to finish. Needless to say, the food is fabulous. Each dish is picture perfect and the food is cooked perfectly as well. The flavours are wonderful and jazzed up but does not overwhelm the underlying basic food. There are so many extra touches throughout the meal like a complimentary glass of champagne to start. The wine list is quite good. A truly delightful experience from start to finish. We will be returning for sure.
The food was good, but we thought it was way overpriced. We had a lot better meals at other restaurants in the area that were half the price. Their wine list is ridiculously overpriced as well. Our waiter and the overall service was outstanding!
Two words: abaolutely amazing!!! Allyson, our server, we named "Superstar Allyson" for her passion and impeccable knowledge of the food and Quebec City. David, the manager, came by several times to make sure everything was perfect. David: EVERYTHING was perfect (congrats on your soon to be wedding, by the way). Music was our favorite French romantic playlist. We did the chef's (Steven Modat) tasting menu and classic wine pairing. Absolutely amazing. We came for our 4 year wedding anniversary and this will be a place we remember forever. Will definitely come back. Food was something you want to swim in. And scarpetta (scrape sauce with bread). We were seated in the previous prime minister's library / office. Just amazing. Bravo, bravo, bravo 🥇🏆

We took our 12 year old granddaughter to dinner as a special treat for her 12th birthday. It was just the right choice, very a gracious to a young girl straddling the line between needing a children's menu and wanting to be an adult. Memory made.
The waitress was very accommodating. The food was superb. A little hard to eat here however if you are a vegetarian. Only a few options. But tons of bread and cheeses! The ambiance was exquisite. The whole restaurant was gorgeous. Highly recommend if stopping Quebec City.
Amazing 5 course meal with gorgeous view! This is an experience that should be savored. Had a lovely time with harp & cello music while we were dining. Suggest that you also have the wine pairing with the preset dinner as they truly do complement one another.

This was a top shelf dining experience all the way. Service, food, ambiance were beautiful. Had some interesting and unusual dishes and wines. Even as a 'splurge' restaurant, it didn't break the bank. Go. It's worth it.
Unbelievable food and service. We did the tasting experience menu and each item was sepctacular. We had the wine pairings and the waitress explained each wine to us in detail. This enchanced our experience even more and they were All well paired with the food. The atmosphere was beautiful. We would love to sit by the fire next time.

Quebec City was a stop on our cruise. Because of flooding issues further along our route we had to spend the night in Quebec. We decided to enjoy an evening at Le Champlain Restaurant. From the moment we walked in the door until we left, it was a fabulous experience. The host presented each of us with a kir at the door as he explained several beautiful architectural features of the historic restaurant as well as the sculpture suspended from the ceiling. The menu featured many local game delicacies. The service was impeccable. We were fortunate to have a table by the window, and the views over the river were gorgeous! The wine list was extensive. Desserts featured new twists on favorites. Great attention to detail overall. Too bad we live so far away. This is a great restaurant for a special occasion!

Fantastic food, service and ambiance.
My wife and I were celebrating a major anniversary and the team at Champlain made this dining experience extra special for us.
We had the 5 course tasting menu with the wine pairing.
Started with Arctic char, next was a seared foie gras followed by deer tartare.
We finished with a boneless loin of lamb (like a filet mignon)
Hands down the best piece of lamb I've ever eaten.
A couple of great desserts finished us off - along with some espresso.
Each course was meticulously prepared with interesting accompaniments to create unique flavor combinations.

This meal was one of my top 5 dining experiences ever - and I've been to some really great ones.
My experience at Champlain was simply outstanding! I would rate my overall dining experience as one of the best dinners of my life. After being warmly greeted by the hostess and treated to a brief Château Frontenac history lesson, she sat us in the small and very cozy library room - a beautiful wood-paneled room with views of the Terrace Dufferin and the St. Lawrence.
I had the five course “Experience Modat” tasting menu with the premium “wine discovery” wine pairing. Every course was a culinary work of art. We started with a beef cheek amuse bouche (served like a lollipop on a metal stick). Next, we had a delicious king crab appetizer. That was followed by a surprisingly tasty red deer tartar with a wild mushroom mousse. Next came the seared foie gras, which was deliciously decadent and served with just a few caramelized almonds and fruit. It was perfectly paired with a delicious Riesling. The main course was a simply incredible smoked filet mignon with porcini mushrooms - without doubt the best beef I have ever had. That was paired with a huge Super Tuscan wine that complemented the beef perfectly. Finally, the desert was a crime brûlée wrapped in a thin dark chocolate - so good!!! It was paired with a spectacular 40 year old port.
During the meal we were also treated to fresh bread and a delicious butter served in a form fitting wooden box.
Our waiter, Jonathon, was absolutely incredible. His knowledge of the menu was encyclopedic and he masterfully coordinated our dining experience. Champlain should be very proud to have Jonathon representing them - I can’t say enough good things about how great he made our experience.

Fue una gran noche, porque le pedí matrimonio a mi novia, todos muy amables en el restaurante, muy cooperativos para hacer de esa noche una gran experiencia. Nuestro mesero Manuel muy atento, amable, agradable , me ayudó a grabar el momento exacto en el que entregué el anillo. Pedimos el menú de degustación con maridaje (paring) todos los platillos sensacionales, el foi gras espectacular al igual que el cordero. Gran restaurante en el hotel mas bonito de Canadá!!
What an incredible dining experience. We had a group of 8 for dinner and from the moment we walked in we were all overwhelmed with how wonderful this restaurant is. The food and service both were exceptional and the views breathtaking. I would highly recommend for groups or for a romantic evening!
Daniel was our server and guided us through the menu and provided excellent service. The 5 course tasting menu accompanied by the discover wine pairing gave us an opportunity to taste wonderful Canadian/Quebecois dishes and explore some new wines.
Ce fut excellent. Belle ambiance. Bon service. Mercredi pour le cadeau du livre sur la gastronomie sauvage. Super beau livre!
