Le Champlain Restaurant - Fairmont Château Frontenac
Le Champlain is in Quebec City, Quebec and it is a beautiful eatery that is a part of the Fairmont Le Chateau. The restaurant is a classic landmark that offers top quality cuisine thanks to the talents of Chef Stephane Modat. The eatery serves dinner and Sunday brunch. The dress code at the eatery is smart casual.
Le Champlain has some excellent options on the menu that you can try. Some of the appetizers include the citrus grilled octopus, wild ginger oyster cream soup and the smoked sturgeon. Main course options at Le Champlain include the Scandinavian char, elk, roasted lamb loin and roasted guinea fowl.
Food was OK but ambiance and service made it A+
Excellent Food with attention to detail. The flavors were exceptionally well developed. Very good service. Wine choices are very good, but the "by the glass" selection is a bit disappointing. Very good cheese selection. Duck breast was heavy on the gristle (which may be normal as I do not eat a lot of duck breast) but the portion size was extra large to compensate. Gluten Free food is equally tasty although selection is less.
Everything was excellent. Best meal I've had in a while, and the service was top notch.
We were staying at the Frontenac so the Champlain was an easy choice for dinner. Amazing menu with plenty of options depending on your pallet. Great service and amazing views of the St. Lawrence from the restaurant. Great experience on every level!
Sublime excellent service
My husband and I had such a wonderful experience at Le Champlain... the staff was super friendly the food was outstanding the creme brulee was absolutely delicious... we look forward to our next visit... Merci 💕
Wonderful. Best foie gras ever.
Fabulous presentation.
Knowledgeable waiter
Great wines
We thoroughly enjoyed our appetizers. My husband had the sturgeon and I had the snow crab. I had roasted halibut, a special for the night and delicious. My husband had the scallops on the menu and he enjoyed his meal. Our servers were fantastic - attentive but not overbearing. The pacing of the service was perfect.
Elegant, lovely and memorable. It’s unique and charming in every way you could hope for. Keep up the great work.
C’est notre deuxième visite tout était parfait l’ambiance ,le service ,la nourriture. Notre serveur nous a même montré la cuisine ,ce fut une très gentille attention. Merci pour cette belle soirée! Nous y retournerons sûrement ...
Such a lovely and special restaurant! The history is amazing and the waiter is very kind to share it. The food was fantastic, some caribou and Arctic char was simply incredible. We will be back!
We had the tasting menu with the wine pairing. Each dish was amazing and the wine paired to it was spot on! The our head waiter was friendly, attentive and professional, and described the wines very nicely as he served it. The waiter who delivered our courses was very knowledgeable about the ingredients and method of preparation. Both were patient with our questions, happily tolerated my rather rusty French speaking, and spoke in to English as necessary to give a full description of the food and wine. I thoroughly enjoyed the dinner and will definitely return on my next visit to Quebec!
We arrived at reception. The woman was on the phone. She didn't acknowledge us. The call ended and she went away. No greeting!! NO "I'll be right back!! NOTHING !!! Several minutes later we were seated by a man who was appropriate. We were dissed.
The hotel is a tourist trap. The bar was vulgar and TOO loud.
Les tables sont trop longue pour avoir une conversation .
Mais la nourriture est excellente un plaisir pour le palais .
One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to in the world. Unbelievable atmosphere, service and innovative food preparation.
We did the chef’s tasting with wine selections. Expensive, yes, but what a meal! From start to finish the food was creative, beautiful, tasty, and unique. Really fun and special evening. Take and Uber or walk, though, you won’t want to drive in that area of town, or after all that food and wine.
Thank you for a wonderful time and great service. Dining here was one of the highlight of our trip. Bonus: My. little princess get to dine in a real castle :)!
Beautifully decorated, lovely menu and food, and exceptional service.
Very over price. But my husband enjoyed his meal. But for myself, I was disappointed.
But I must say, I will gladly go back.
Beautiful setting, with great service and the food was innovative and delicious. Our waiter was both attentive and entertaining, would recommend for a special occasion as it is fine dinning. A wonderful experience and great way to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary.
Very historic place, loved the Chef’s selection. Had the scallops and they were outstanding. Served local specialties and local products, delicious
Our head waiter Wilson was outstanding - very attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. The cuisine was varied and the pairings were well done. Recommend for special occasions.
Our meal was delicious and Allysson provided us with wonderful service.
We had an excellent meal in a beautiful setting. Could not have been better.
Excellent and creative cuisine. The service was also excellent. First class all the way!
I had a terrible experience. I had the pre-fixed menu and found some items unpalatable. Unfortunately all they did was comp me some bottled water on a 100 meal. I found the value for the money to be very very poor for this suppose high end restaurant.
They take advantage of the tourists because they think that we won’t be repeat customers. I am writing this to warn all tourists to stay away.
Absolutely first rate in every way. Jonathan our professional waiter was exceptional along with everything else about the evening!!
A ‘stand out’ life experience!
Food was not bad. Service was very poor. Worst dining experience ever. Never go there. If you’d insist going, please check very thoroughly your bill. They might rip you off.
Food was very disappointing, you pay for the location and the service.
Perfect dining experience with incredible food in an amazing atmosphere. We did have a window table which is far better than interior tables
Great tasting menu, nice staff
The room is well situated, overlooking the St. Lawrence River. Diners are warmly greeted and offered a glass of sparkling wine. There are other special treats, like a small hors d’oeurves and sorbet after the entree. The St. Lawrence Bay scallops were cooked perfectly. Our waiter was very attentive. We throughly enjoyed the experience.
We had the taster's menu with the wine pairings. Every course was a delight. Also enjoyed being greeted with bubbly and charming wait staff.
We had a lovely dinner at the Chateau. The decor is stunning. And that’s what you are really paying for. The food was complicated and I don’t think I would choose the tasting menu again. Instead I would pick something from the main menu as other tables were more pleased with those options. I would go again as it really is a beautiful place and the service is excellent.
1. Freezing by the window at the veranda. Cold air from above. Cold air from ventilation.
2. Asked our waiter politely if we could rise the temperature. Answer was" NO it's the maximum. I will bring blankets to put on ventilation ".They never came.
3. More than 20 minutes to be asked what we had decided.
4. Asked him to suggest some dishes and he replied. " No I can't do it. All our dishes are good. " No effort to help us.
5. Asked him to put in the centre all dishes one by one - only the soup that was first to be divided into 2 bowls. He said ok. One ball came only. When we reminded him he said that the chef wouldn't do that.
6. Asked our red wine to be served in a bigger wine glass and he said" No. With the small one I know how to measure the amount of wine I am going to pour you. If you have ordered a bottle, I would have brought you the glass you asked".
5. The most ridiculous part is that when he brought the bill, he told me. It's 190 DOLLARS. If you make 215 that would be fine .
Never again. My expectations were as high as the hotels roof. Unfortunately we were let down.
Outstanding as usual. A place we never miss when in Quebec. Francois is an outstanding waiter very well versed in the foods/wine and most pleasurable. From the moment you walk in you know you are in for a treat prices here equivalent to other 4 star rated in the States but food quality service and presentation nears a Michelin star. When in Quebec do not miss this place. Pre dinner cocktails at the bar that also overlooks the St. Lawrence River a great way to start the evening, but don’t expect the US pour in Canada 1.5 once is the rule though you can order a larger drink at a much larger price
First time trip to Quebec. This was a high point.
Very disappointed. Way over valued. Much better places in Quebec City.
Everything about this restaurant is amazing. The welcome, decoration, food and service. Definitely will return.
We were late for 1 hr due to the snow storm on our way driving to Quebec City, but the restaurant still reserved the window seats for us as what I reserved online! Very appreciated for that thoughtful arrangement! The atmosphere and foods are all great, there were also extra free snacks served before meals for refreshing our taste bud. Will recommend anyone who'd like to spend special occasion with their loved ones!
