everything was good but the music was so loud we couldn't really talk even after we mentioned it to the staff, in fact it seemed louder after. Not good at all.
Love the look. Nice deal on the cocktails. Service was friendly, but nothing to brag about. Food was salty and servers weren’t really engaged with the menu to offer insight or suggestions. It was just a “can I take your order” type of deal.
Loved everything except the noise level. Every staff member they we encountered was polite, helpful, efficient and well groomed.
Nice ambiance, kitchen took a while but we didn’t mind since we were celebrating Valentines Day. Beautiful place to spend a nice dinner out.
The service is extremely slow, and the food is nothing special for the price.
We had Octopus (was very chewy)
The chicken dish (dry chicken)
The veal (very confusing and not presentable dish)
And the Pasta (that was decent).
Went here to celebrate Valentine's day, food was pretty good, service was just ok though
Only thing that stood out as negative was that they're oysters were not the best. They were very watery and flavorless, so we went to Oyster Boy right after for some good oysters!
Everything else was amazing!
Food excellent. "at the table" service good/attentive. Review is less stellar than we would like due to the experience with the Hostess. We arrived, impeccably dressed, happy and excited about dining; the Hostess spent some time looking for our reservation, told us it didn't exist, finally found it, then asked the woman who took us to our table to take us to table #X (can't recall) - the woman gave her a 2nd look as if to say "huh? why?" and the Hostess insisted. It was so quick we didn't even recall this exchange until we arrived at our table - passing all of the other diners, and were seated right next to the kitchen/servers area, at the one table where the banquette splits (=uncomfortable) and NO ONE ELSE at the tables anywhere near us. Why? Because we booked through Open Table?? Who knows. We did move one table over, and no other parties arrived at the tables around us at any time we were there. We barely spoke to the Hostess save for a "hi, we have a reservation tonight". It's left a very poor taste (pun intended) for this restaurant. Front of the house experience = Lena won't be around much longer with their current Hostess. Good luck.
This is not a Latin restaurant, it is Italian. The food did not really represents Latin America at all.
Went for dinner on Valentine's day. Food was fabulous, service was excellent.
Great food! Amazing representation of Latino food. Get the octopus!
Having gone here for drinks in the past, I wasn't particularly excited to have dinner. I should have been. The service was superb. The ambiance was great, except for the noise level which was the main drawback to an otherwise sweet Valentine's dinner. The music was so loud we had trouble hearing each other across a two-person table.
The food was surprisingly good and while on the expensive side, still very enjoyable.
Definitely a good place for a romantic dinner or a date.
Our server was a sweetheart and was attentive and prompt. The food came out quickly.
Overall I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly satisfied.
First time visit. Food was delicious and well presented. My friend and I went for galentine's and opted for for the fixed menu with pairings, pricey but worth it.
Very good service, great food, good decor/atmosphere but music is too loud for the dinner crowd, very hard to talk to anyone across the table.
Too noisy to talk. Shrimp Linguini was very ordinary, pasta was overcooked and had been sitting for too long before being delivered to the table
I would recommend the restaurant but it would have to be a qualified recommendation. It's an attractive, art deco room. However, it's a little too casual for me and the tables are way too small to accommodate sharing plates. Portions are reasonable, but quality is uneven and a number of the hot items were quite tepid. Prices are a little elevated given the above and the level of service, which is decidedly average.
The food was fantastic! My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed empanadas for appetizer, lamb and steak. We also really appreciated the excellent wine by the glass list.
The service was so-so, our waitress was slow and not very attentive- but the food was the real star!
Food is delicious with an inspired, authentic menu. Great options in the appetizers for vegetarians but would be nice to see some more in the entrees. This was my 3rd time in the past year here and I would give it a higher rating but I have experienced the same issue in service on all 3 occasions. Starts off well with very friendly and knowledgeable staff but after receiving entrees, it falls off and you continually have to chase down waitstaff for desert menu/coffees and the bill. An easy fix to improve 😊
It took 25 min to get our food order in and the food was underwhelming
We found the food average to mediocre. We had the shared menu...in hindsight we would have been better off having individual mains. The prices were reasonable though...
I say try it, went with a group of friends and there were 6 of us. Ambiance and atmosphere were just wonderful, and the Latin music playing in the background was splendid. Made me want to getup and salsa or bachata ;) The empanadas appetizer were delicious!! You get 3 pieces and reasonable sized; more than enough for one person, but sharing, nah uh, definitely put in more than 1 order.
The entrees caused mixed feelings: 2 ordered the squid ink fusilli pasta (which was interesting bc the squid ink wasn’t just a sauce, but rather the pasta itself was covered with it) and the Steak & frites - both absolutely loved their dishes! The rest of us ordered salmon dishes & sole. I thought the salmon was done well and sat on a bed of chick peas and salmon caviar. Each of its own were really good, however, together, it left a bitter taste in my mouth - I could have done without the salmon. The others echoed my thoughts on the salmon. The sole was a whole fish that came with rice and potatoes, but rice was too mushy.
Overall, I’d go back for the atmosphere, the empanadas, that pasta dish, steak dish, and possibly try something else.
Great food, great service, highly recommend. Thanks!
Despite it having been a very busy Friday night, we both enjoyed our dinners thoroughly. Afterwards I thought I’d probably not been adventurous enough in my choice of entree. Time constraints made it impossible to have dessert, but I have decided on the one I’ll pick when I visit next, Churros.
Great service. Very charm waitress (Camila). great experience!!!!
We went for the winterlicious experience. Service was great over all - very attentive and knowledgeable. There was a bit of a miscommunication with the starter, we had asked for one but got something else which wasn’t a big deal but they apologized, let us keep the app and brought us what we originally asked for. They were both tasty. Music and overall vibe was amazing too. Thanks to the Leña team :)
I went for winterlicious with a friend and it wasn’t bad. Food was good however it was extremely loud and hard to even talk to one another. Extremely packed. The butternut squash soup was amazing and the beef serloin was too rare for my liking. Over all not a bad experience!
Winterlicious menu - shrimp/artichoke starter was very good. Piri piri chicken was good too. Striploin was so tough I had to send it back. I had the salmon which was fine but nothing special. Service was OK.
The butterfly shrimp was impossible to eat and I could have done without looking at the eyes.
What to do? It was the last day of Winterlicious. Do we go somewhere or not? We went. 1:30. We had to wait about 5 minutes, which was unusual. But then, they were busy. The waiter told us it was a mad rush today and the next day, calm. We were seated in the lounge area and ordered our Estrelle Damm. Service was excellent from then on. Not that it wasn’t up until then, just not the usual excellence. Both appetizers were tasty: Buttercup squash & hominy corn soup – thickish – and shrimp & artichoke pate-rich-with crunchy taro chips. The Atlantic salmon was perfectly done, the accompanying tomatillo salsa verde, bland. On the other hand, the saffron & shallot marmalade was great, the eggplant it was on, so-so - but no reflection on the chef, neither of us think much of eggplant (except in baba ghanoush). My Guajillo veal meatballs were a good choice, symmetrically arranged around the plate -not significantly better than piling them somewhere on the plate. What can you do with a bunch of balls? The Dulce de Leche Torte was good. The roasted coffee beans an interesting addition, but not too much to my liking. On the other hand, the orange & almond cake was sweet, and very much to my liking. Great service, moderately noisy, great food. $77 after taxes, before gratuity, with two beers.
I've been to Lena for a regular dinner as well as for Winterlicious. I would say that the meals are well worth the money (I left very full and satisfied) but the thing that blows me away the most is the exceptional service. Both instances, I felt like the service was incredible:
1. It was my friend's birthday so I brought a cake to surprise her at the end of our meal. Since they knew where my friend was sitting, they had me stay behind for a minute before bringing me up as they didn't want the cake to pass by my friend the same time I arrived at the table.
They even cut the cake for us and packed it up at no charge which I thought was extremely kind of them!
2. It was Winterlicious and I forgot I had plans for later so I asked the server if they could have the courses come out quicker. They actually told the chefs and my whole meal came out in under an hour which was amazing.
In conclusion, definitely come here if you want delicious food and amazing service! The ambiance is perfect for a date night, birthday dinner, company lunch/dinner, you name it !
The staff was amazing and accommodating to our table's food restrictions.
Very slow service. Dinner took us 3 hours. We only had 3 courses. It was very busy at first but towards the end was quieter. There should have been no reason for it to take that long.
*One warning - music is loud, talk shouting to your dinner guest is a thing, so maybe not the place to breakup or... is it?*
Lena was alive with a buzz. I wasn't expecting it to be a quiet place but I didn't realize how vibrant it would be. The tables and bar stools were filled with a great mix of people doing a great mix of things; young, old, classy, casual, business dinners, first dates, anniversarys, girls night out and solo drinkers.
The service was excellent, very responsive and the food was interesting and imaginative, with our highlight being dessert. In summary, Lena is a fun and happening Toronto spot to get dinner or a drink. It's not the stand alone best bar or best menu or most eclectic place in the city but it does every well enough to not offend the sensibilities.
My friend and I went for drinks and a snack @5 on Tuesday, by 6ish they gave us the bill without us asking for us to leave. We wanted to get some food but the snack was uneatable so we changed our minds. I don't mind if they have a policy against letting people have drinks for more than an hour, but at least clarify that instead of passively giving us the bill to leave asap.
I would recommend Lena Restaurante at a non-Winterlicious or Summerlicious time. I find, as with most restaurants, that they are preparing a high volume of food in a short amount of time. This can sometimes impact the quality of the food. I think the food was well prepared, perhaps the hot meal just sitting in a warmer too long. The service was excellent and the ambience was really nice as well.
Amazing food and service. Only downside was that despite making advanced reservations we were seated in the lower level on the premise that the patrons seated upstairs had made advance reservation. Also the noise level was on the higher side.
Great ambiance and wonderful food. One of the beat places to go for Winterlicious.
Sean did a great jump taking care of the table. Food was awesome. Thank you.
Don't get the dulce de leche Winterlicious dessert. Basically 3 shortbread cookies stacked with condensed milk on one side, blueberry jam on the other, with crushed esspresso beans on top, and a dab of dulce de leche as glue. Not a very attractive nor creative dessert. Flavors did not mesh.
Venue was bright, clean, spacious. Music was a little loud.
Winterlicious entrees were well portioned, almost generous. Appetizers delicately sized, very promising.
