We were disappointed with the placement of our table (beside kitchen) but were told there was nothing else (no effort made to accommodate our request but I understand it was a table for 8). Food was very good but our service was inconsistent. Went to the lower level for an after dinner drink but were told that was closing (Sat night 10) so we went to the main level which has the nicest decor and ambience of the whole restaurant. We had a server who had a terrible attitude and was rude but luckily another served stepped in and took over. They all gave us the clear message that they wanted to close and go home. Summary - great calamari and spicy potatoes for sharing and excellent grilled octopus for main. Service not so great
Great cocktails (had the Lena & Old Fashioned). Fantastic appetizers (I recommend the grilled calamari and also the shishito peppers), entrees, and dessert (recommend the churros). Attentive service without being overbearing.
Brunch with friends there, ambiance and service is really good. Food menu for dinner much better :)
Great short rib and lamb again! First time to have seafood tower and branzino ceviche was amazing.
Food and service were both excellent! I came back the next night for drinks in the bar downstairs, and again, a wonderful experience :) I’ll be back!
Our waiter was professional and friendly. However, I was very disappointed with the food. I ordered spaghetti with burrata and the spaghetti was overcooked and mushy (reminiscent of spaghetti in a can). I was very unhappy with my choice, as I expect pasta to be served al dente.
Only complaint was the seating location in the upper restaurant. Did not know that there was additional seating there so would have asked for main bar and window area. Sat in main restaurant last time. Would request that next time.
Otherwise very good, again.
It took them almost 1hr to serve us our food when the restaurant wasn’t even full and we were there for what was supposed to be a 1hr lunch work
Overall, a good experience. I am not familiar with Argentinian cuisine so I can not speak to the authenticity. Food was good, drinks were amazing and service was great. Plus the decor was exquisite.
Totally the go to restaurant, the food is different and location is absolutely on point!
Food was great (I had the cod, which was excellent), nice spot for an after-work dinner and drinks. It was kinda cold inside when I was there, but its a good restaurant nevertheless.
Yuca fries were great. The full gaucho is great meal
Food and ambiance were amazing. Our server was friendly and courteous but it took a while to get our food and the bill...might need to consider hiring more servers especially on Friday nights
Out of this world! One of my favourite restaurants in TO! Yum Yum Yum.
Aside from noise level including background music we enjoyed our meal. Service was great. Food was very good and an interesting menu-with options for the lighter eater, and vegetarian. Setting is fantastic.
Great evening- fantastic spot
Food was very good, also my friend who has some dietary restrictions was accommodated well once allergies identified. Service was very fast and friendly. Overall excellent experience - recommend!
I put notes that it is my friend’s b-day and no one even asked if we wanted to offer her cake. Disappointing!
great cocktails, delicious food! Would highly recommend.
Service was just average, nothing stood out.
No specials or bread offered.
CHORIZO OMELETTE states potato tortilla but it came with chunks of potato on top instead.
Salmon was good.
Cappuccinos were lukewarm.
The food was amazing. It is definitely on the $$$ side for brunch but worth it. The one thing that I would mention is our first server was fantastic but it seems she may have gone on break and we were given another male server for the last 30 minutes who was a bit more dismissive with our requests. Aside from that the experience was really good and will definitely be back!
Fabulous food, great service and a hidden gem!
Innovative and refreshing dishes, great for a lazy weekend lunch. Visually appealing, retro style decor, nostalgic location and great ambiance. Friendly staff.
It was set menu on which was fine but the food was awful. On top of that they charge you $6 for bad table bread!
We had visitors to Toronto and wanted to take them somewhere a bit different, and this was a great choice. Shishito peppers - yuca fries - spare ribs - tagliatelle - grilled octopus - churros with chocolate sauce - mango sorbet - it was all outstanding and perfectly cooked. We had a gluten intolerant diner with us and the waiter was well informed and relaxed, but vigilant about it, and happily lots of dishes at Lena are naturally gluten free, so this diner had an excellent choice for once. The dining room is really well designed for lighting, comfort and conversation. We’ll definitely be back.
The service and food was amazing it’s one of my favourite places to eat on the city
Lovely evening out
It was a good experience and an enjoyable evening with gourmet food
If I could give more points for food and service I would.
Lena is easily the most beautiful restaurant I’ve been to in Toronto. The high ceilings, the Art Deco details, the amazing centre column, the big windows and the colour scheme are all perfect. The attention to detail, with the wonderful wallpaper repeated in the menu’s front by pages and the urns sporting fabulous and strange “trees”, makes a few hours here feel... frankly, not enough time.
The food? Meh. The cheese biscuits are amazing and my friend liked her tagliatelle. My brisket burger was greasy and dull and the fries were chunk potatoes, also dry and not all attractive. My tea was not hot enough to steep so I asked for a new pot. Same problem. Really? Boiling water should be pretty basic.
The service was friendly but inattentive. My friend asked the waiter to come closer and speak up, as she couldn’t hear him at all. He did neither. He missed part of her order, which she had said but also pointed at in the menu, and when she asked about it he didn’t apologize, just told she had not ordered it. When we protested, he shrugged and said, “Do you want it now?” We asked for the bill three times before it arrived.
All in all, I’d return for the ambience and atmosphere but would definitely eat minimally.
I think this restaurant is confused about what it is. With a name like Leña you would expect to have a South American or Spanish cuisine. This was nonexistent. Apparently they only serve ceviche on weekdays, Wednesday to Friday. This was very disappointing. There’s nothing exciting or inventive on the menu, it’s the same food you can find anywhere. I will caution you that the mark-up on the wine is 400%! We ordered a bottle of wine that is $15 at the LCBO and they were charging $62. as a note, industry standard is 250 to 300%. As for service, when we arrived, the restaurant had a ton of empty tables. We were 20 minutes early, before our early evening reservation (5:45) and they insisted that we sit at the bar until “our table was ready”. In addition, the server at the bar was nothing but rude. I would suggest that you stay away since there are plenty of restaurants with better service and better food in the neighborhood.
One of my favourite restaurants in Toronto. Food never disappoints. We did the buck a shuck. Great oysters with a fantastic bottle of a white Penedas wine. Amazing Argentinian style empanadas with chimichurri sauce. We also loved the grilled calamari, which was cooked to perfection. The calamari melted in my mouth. Grilled mushrooms on a skewer was also perfectly cooked. The yuca fries is a must and goes well with anything off the menu. We ordered the steak frites to share, which was sliced so that it can be shared. Steak was juicy and flavourful without overpowering seasoning. The only disappointment were the shishito peppers which were very spicy. Normally, shishito peppers are not hot. The service was adequate. Noise level tolerable. Beautiful decor and I never tire of the exquisite Art Deco bar. Overall, highly recommend this restaurant!!!!
The food was great and our server, Shawn, was excellent!
Amazing food & excellent service. Choc mousse cake was to die for!
Amazing service, wonderfully knowledgeable staff. Food was delicious and very well priced, upstairs eating area is cosy, great for anything from romantic dinner to group dinner. Lena is my favourite place to eat in the city
This was my second visit to Leña. My first visit we sat by the windows and enjoyed the ambience of the high ceilings and large widows. On this visit we were seated in the low ceiling much darker dining room directly outside the entrance to the kitchen. I didn't know this room existed. If I was in this room on my first visit and would never have returned. I now know with future reservations it's important to specify where I'd like to sit.
We were seated in the upstairs room which I didn't know existed - had assumed we would be in the airy street level space. We did not enjoy the upstairs - deafeningly noisy and our table was right in front of the 2 kitchen doors that open into the dining space so at least one guest is staring into the kitchen with servers constantly going back and forth on either side of the table. We asked to be moved and this was done with bad grace. However the food was delicious and our waiter was pleasant. A request for bread was met with mild constenation and took at least 10 minutes to arrive, otherwise the service was decent. I like Lena downstairs but would not venture to the upper dining room again.
A busy day with the Holiday staff parties. We’d reserved for the front area but we’re situated beside the kitchen. Food was good. Service was outstanding. Noise was horrendous.
This was my second visit to Leña. Everything that I ordered both visits was delicious. The main floor is exceptionally beautiful but I find it very noisy. The second level is also beautifully decorated and is much quieter, but there are no windows.
Leña is on my list of restaurants that I will return to time and again.
Waiter was blah, stuck in back upper floor by the kitchen yuk, variety of appies to share limited. I would recommend for the main area or lower lever to friends not where we were. Good Cab Sav I had though. Otherwise not worth the money.
