Ile Flottante (former Les Deux Singes)
Bus 55 St-Laurent, stop at St-Viateur Street.
An exquisite experience in every way
Service, presentation, wine, food
Perfect in every way. The food was great, they accommodated for vegetarian very well, and the service and wine pairings were phenomenal. Would highly recommend!!
We celebrated my husbands birthday at the restaurant and had the best three hours tasting amazing food made with love. Every course blew our taste buds wanting more! Highly recommend doing the wine pairing as they suggest the best wines that go with their incredible food! To top everything, the service was really warm! Can’t wait to taste their next seasonal menu. A must do in Montreal !
The food was beautiful but also, overly complex. It seems that the chef is enamoured as much by the number of ingredients and the micro chopping technique as the actual harmony of the dish. The quail was honestly a bit dry and the accompanying medley of vegetables was hopelessly over complex, leading to a confused dish with no identity. The "potato and truffle" dish was quite simply, not something you would expect in August - it was winter. The "bookends" so to speak: the gaspacho and the dessert were the best dishes, the tartar lacked soul and was a bit over-chopped, losing a sense of horizontal identity. I give this restaurant nonetheless a high review because good things are going on there but someone needs to take a strong whack at the quantity and complexity of the dishes, so that one can stick with the elegance but pare things done to genuine flavour essences - this means making hard choices with the dishes and being confident that the real ingredients and not just their rendering will carry the day. Good luck!
This is like no other Resto in Montreal; unique vision of food, ornate without being fussy. Friendly service, excellent value. I will be going back in a month's time.
Seriously good food. Only 3, 5, 7 set dinners, but very high quality.
The food and service were excellent. We are foodies and enjoy restaurants all over the world. A 5 rating would have been in order but the wine offerings were extremely poor. Undrinkable really. I would encourage the establishment to increase the price for the wines and offer much better wines that come closer to the quality of their wonderful offerings from the kitchen. That said - we would return in a heartbeat.
Amazing food! They accommodated for my gluten free food restriction and it was excellent! Very creative, big portions, we were stuffed with the 5 courser! Would go again and highly recommend!!
Every course was both a flavor explosion and a work of art. The creativity and taste combinations were superb only equalled by the beautiful presentation. The amuse bouche was more like another course so three courses was more than enough for me. Despite the elegant food, it was relaxed atmosphere and the wait staff and owner could not have been more accommodating. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal.
The food was delicious, the ambiance was lovely, a great upscale spot for a date in Mile End!
outstanding and amazing food for a reasonable price
veny nice people
definitely on the top 5 tables in Montreal
Great food. It is original and healthy. The service is friendly. However, I wish they had a more experienced help.
We've been here several times at different times of the year, and had lots of different dishes, and the chefs never fail to amaze!
I tried the wine pairings for the first time on this visit and I would really recommend it. The wines were really interesting choices and actually improved on the perfection of the food.
We had another wonderful experience and will definitely return as often as we can. Thank you so much to all the team!
One of the best vegetarian meals of my life. Lovely, warm service and absolutely delicious and inventive food...every course was terrific and the pacing was perfect. We could not have asked for a better evening, and we look forward to dinner at Ile Flottante again.
Food and drinks were delicious, creative, and presented beautifully. Service was attentive, laid back, & friendly. We did a 5 course dinner with pairing and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.
We didn’t expect to have such devine experience here. We went to a michelen restaurant the next night for my birthday and after this it was just terrible. In my memories of our montreal trip this is going to be my birthday dinner, so thank you for that.
The staff of all women were very considerate, friendly and engaging! Pro-tip --do the three course tasting menu, rather that the 5 or 7, because the food is delicious but, rich! The portions are also a little big for a tasting menu (which is fine) but, means you should go with the three course. The golden gazpacho with fresh melon and tomato was the BEST thing we ate all night and it just the amuse bouche! :) The wine pairings were on point too. We'll definitely visit again when we return to Montreal.
Wonderful, Wonderful and Wonderful!!! I will come back every time I'm in Montreal and I will recommend this restaurant to all my friends.
Food was wonderful despite aggressive and unrelenting music. We even requested that the music be muted but the management said that it was at the lowest level that was possible. I'm skeptical, so we won't go back because of this.
extremely tasty menu! everything was delicious and the wine perfect for the meals. they really put a lot of effort into the meals, the presentation and overall the service was perfect!
if you want to eat out in a chic place, try this restaurant!
The food was amazing. The taste and the presentation as well. I loved the fact of being surprised by the degustation menu. And the service was also very good!!! I would definitely recommend this restaurant! One of the best in Montreal.
Delightful experience. Cozy environment and spectacular food. Servers were friendly and knowledgeable about the food and wine. They modified the menu to be 100% vegetarian for my husband. Highly recommended.
Il Flottane is rated #1 by any media outlet that does things properly. There is one very simple reason: it's chef is an artist, and the people who serve you are seriously professional and extremely welcoming.
Indeed, when I am in Montreal, I try to eat at Il Flottante as often as possible.
All tasting menus, adjusted to any food restrictions apparently by substitution with a vegetarian or other option. Choices are 3, 5, or 7 courses. Waiter discourages 7 as "too much to eat." One of us had 3 and the other 5 courses--every dish was truly superb. I suspect that they were short staffed that evening as service was quite slow, even when not full.
Amazing food. Top notch service that patiently explains the courses. Would have loved to have a written description but they don’t do that anymore. However they provided pen and paper and helped us make notes. Still think this is about the best restaurant in Montreal.
Exquisite. Service and food were both impeccable. The small touches make such a differences- they know their service and they know their food. We're spoiled in Montreal with so many restaurants- although many are 'hyped' and lack the special touches. Ile Flottante is delicious beautifully plated food, served in a wonderful ambiance- a memorable experience. Their 'amuse bouche' on the house was outstanding- best and most interesting take on gazpacho I have ever seen or tasted (with a barely-sweet strawberry sorbet- wow). My friend took the 3 course tasting menu like I took the 5 (impromptu dinner)- they served us matching plates together for the 3 similar. They never took away either of our plates until the other was done (those 'small touches'). Cocktails were great (Paper Plane is a fave of mine and they have it on their menu). Wine list was great (orange wines too). Flexibility with vegetarian options as well. Overall, just wonderful. I will be going back very soon.
Fantastic food and extremely friendly staff. We came for a bachelorette party and couldn't have marked the event any better! Thank you and see you soon!
Everything was great in terms of service, quality of food, cocktails, ambiance. Only negative was some of the plates were extremely salty, which made us not appreciate those particular dishes.
Ile Flottante; I've been there a dozen times in the last 3 years for various occasions. It's difficult for restaurants to reinvent themselves when expanding and changing the name to keep their identity. Ile flottante has done that impeccably. They kept the same formula that made Les Deux Singes an exceptional restaurant. Friendly, humble and knowledgeable staff serving creative food that is technical & balanced while playing with textures & flavours in a modern ways that pushes culinary boundaries while remaining excellent value for your money. That same attention to detail and excellence is found in their wine and cocktail menu. Montreal has no shortage of restaurants but this one truly stands out above all the others.
Outstanding, one of the best restaurants in Montreal! Our third time and can't wait for #4!
Fantastic supper, and staff could not be better. Prix fixe menu comes with 3,5,or 7 courses. We each had the 5 course, and were stuffed, even though the portions weren’t huge. Extremely creative without being “gimmicky “. Would definitely go again!
An amazing spot for a special meal. Creative cuisine with the freshest of local ingredients. There are so many layers of flavors in their dishes. You will not be disappointed. A talented chef, service that spoils you, and great ambience. Truly the best restaurant in Montreal. I dine here every time I visit this beautiful city. Make a reservation. Their recent renovation has made a few more tables available, but it’s still tough to get a seat here without reserving in advance.
Inventive nuanced dishes brimming with seasonal splendor. I’d return in a heartbeat. Try the amaretto sour with chili.
We had a lovely dinner during the weekend. The service was quick and easy. Everyone we interacted with was extremely friendly. Portions were slightly bigger than expected, but we were pleasantly surprised. In the end we were quite happy that we decided to go for the 5-course service instead of 7. A treat for eyes and tongue!
One of the best restaurants in Montreal or the best for the last 6 months
An impeccable meal that perfectly combined beautiful presentation and outstanding delightful taste. One of the best I’ve ever had, and very reasonably priced considering the quality. We chose the 5-course meal, shared a signature ile flottante dessert and both sampled a few cocktails, while allowing a glass of wine to be picked out for us to complement the meal. The unassuming vegetable-based dishes were absolutely delightful, only to be surpassed by the beef tartar and perfectly cooked quail later. All in all, this is a restaurant I would come back to every season to experience their latest iteration of menu.
Nous avons eu une superbe expérience! Très bon service et super bon vin. Nous avons pris le 5 services et c'était un peu trop pour nous avec la mise en bouche. Nous recommanderions le 3 services pour pouvoir en profiter davantage!
Outstanding creative courses beautifully prepared and presented. The service was lovely and the ambience was delightful. We had the five corse prix fixe with the wine pairing. We will definitely return.
Les plats étaient créatifs et savoureux à souhait, de la vraie bistronomie comme on l’aime.
