The iconic, l’escale restaurant bar, or “port of call” for seasonal Mediterranean cuisine is designed to transport the ambiance of Provence to the Gold Coast of Connecticut. Two-hundred-year-old stone terra cotta tiles from Provence adorn the floors with a wood burning fireplace lending an unmistakable charm and beauty.

Founded by Rick Wahlstedt in 2003, l’escale has reached institution status. Located at Delamar Greenwich Harbor Hotel, the restaurant’s intimate decor, along with its wrought iron tonelle covered waterfront terrace and exquisitely designed menu by award winning Executive Chef Frederic Kieffer will deliver the Côte d’Azur right to your table.

L'Escale has it all: excellent food, service, wine, ambiance - both inside & outside dining - and location. I've eaten here outside on a beautiful summer evening and inside, on a cold winter night by the fire. All wonderful. Please open up a place in Killington, Vermont!

A tradition to take my cousin when I visit. Excellent food and service. It’s great to sit outside when weather permits. Love it!

The best place to have my birthday dinner. Was as amazing as always but I did notice for the first time, the service was slow and iconic seasonal dishes sold out by 8.

Very nice dining experience. All of the food was very good, although not exceptional. The service was outstanding. It was our anniversary and we were treated very well by the staff in recognition of that.

I ordered the beet and goat cheese salad. Got 4 very small beets and looked like the dregs of the endive. No greens in salad which was disappointing.
Also ordered tuna tartare. Disappointed again. Had peas in it and not a lot of taste. Had to ask for crackers/toast. Served me crackers right out of the box.
Usually beet salad full of beets and tuna tartare tasty served with toast points.

Had an absolutely wonderful experience. Food and service was outstanding. The only negative was that after our wonderful meal served by our wonderful waiter, a woman (who I assume was a manager or host) kept coming over to ask if we wanted the check while we were still enjoying our dessert. After we paid our bill and were still seated finishing our cocktails she made a point to come over and collect the bill we had signed and start removing things from the table. We had been there for an hour and a half, not a crazy amount of time for 3 courses and we were celebrating an anniversary. It is a pet peeve of mine that a restaurant experience needs to be eaten in record time and then rushed out. Not the experience I was hoping for at the end of the night and literally, and unfortunately the only negative of our entire meal.

Beautiful Ambiance, great location, upscale look, the bread and the desert just fabulous, but the fish had too much pepper and was clearly overcooked... for both my wife and myself...

L'Escale is located by the water. The surrounding views are picturesque and serene.
We were fortunate to have our table on the patio with lots of fresh air. Food was
excellent and service efficient and friendly. Very nice experience. Will recommend
this restaurant highly. In addition reserving the table on line was easy and quick.

The food is wonderfully impeccable. The service very good. The outdoor seating is very refreshing and large. Truly a wonderful experience and I would love to return with my family.

My only complaint is their policy about not seating you if a full party has not arrived. Things happen. If one person is stuck in traffic because of an accident and the others are there and on a schedule it’s not right not to seat those that are there. We had one person traveling 1.5 hours to get there and she was caught up in traffic. She had no problem with us going ahead and ordering without her and letting her catch up. We felt awkward in having to lie to say we were all there so we could be seated and then felt like we were being watched and stared down for our actions. Perhaps management can put some thought into this policy as it also did not work for our hypoglycemic friend that needed to begin her meal.

It's hard to get a reservation here. There were no weekend reservations available. For our Wednesday reservation, we were told on the phone that the only times available for 2 people were 5:30 pm or 7:30 pm. But when we arrived at 5:30 very few table were occupied. We left after 7:00 pm. The restaurant was never more than one third full. What's with that?

Usually really love this place, but the receptionist was rude, and our server, having checked with us and to be polite, leaving us to chat a bit and choose items from the menu, seemed to forget us. It was out of the ordinary in my normally excellent experiences at L'Escale.

The outdoor dining option is wonderful but for the seating! The folding chairs are very uncomfortable for anyone who needs the support of a solid chair. I have learned to filch a pillow from the banquette to put behind my back. A simple solution would to have waiters offer a cushion from a collection designated for that purpose. This is an elegant place and diners shouldn’t have to keep shifting to find a comfortable position.

The best kir royale ( champagne and chambord) made by Victor..The food was just great> The chicken paillard ordered by two at our table was right on. The current "special" dish of sauteed softshell crabs over cavatelli, was amazing and succulent.
The desserts were so good, especially the profiteroles with not too sweet chocolate.
Yes, we are regulars and will be back very soon!

Love the food and setting at L’escale.
The service suffers from the collective “team” service “We are all here to serve you” model where no one is accountable resulting in the reality that there is no one there to serve you.
Legions of floor staff walk past tables without even the slightest glance at the table or the customer.
The mediocre “service” level dims the brilliance of the cuisine.

Totally disappointed by my experience here. Seven guests, $500+ bill, not the issue. I was the host for BDAY celebration for a friend. I had to request for water for the table. No one established themselves as our server at one point I walked to the hostess desk to request that our table be cleared. There were dirt gnats flying from the plant behind the table. I specifically requested a medium burger, which came well over cooked. I was not happy - would not rush back, otherwise friends enjoyed the drinks and mixed on their opinions. Bday celebrant was still grateful.

We had a table overlooking the water on a patio outside. Since the weather was on a chilly side, we were provided with blankets and the heating lamp was on, so we appreciated these nice accommodations. Plate of salmon on watercress bed with roasted young potatoes and toast was quite nice, however we thought, a bit pricey as well as the rest of the items on the lunch menu ( our dish $21, simple hamburger over $20). Overall pleasant experience and likely to come back.
