Belated Mother’s Day celebration with my daughter and granddaughter
Service was unprofessional and management was rude and condescending.
My friend of 40 year met me for lunch.
We had a wonderful catch up and wondered why we had not done this before!
We will be back!
Overall this was an incredible place to meet my friend whom I had not seen in a very long time... The Library Bar provided privacy, comfort and quiet to be able to have a good conversation..The food was excellent however very difficult to eat the little side salad and would have preferred my quiche on a plate rater than a board. still highly recommend
Treated my mom to Afternoon Tea for Mother’s Day, 2018.
Great quiet space, wonderful food and delicious deserts! Highly recommend the Ontario Ice Wine tea if you like a slightly sweet tea!
The food was great, and the surroundings are beautiful. Just a bit dark even during the day. I was on the far inside of the room and my sister was still difficult to see because she was back lit from the window on the other side of the room. The service was also great. Waiters were always around checking in with us.
The desserts were really great, especially since one of them was the Queen's Biscuit Cake, and another was Elderflower and Citrus, similar to the Royal Wedding Cake.
It's a great plate to go for High Tea for any occasion! Hopefully I can go back soon!
I brought my mom here for high tea the day before Mother’s Day. It included a pot of tea per person and a selection of sandwiches and mini desserts/pastries that were tasty. The mushroom was the only sandwich that we I didn’t care for. It is all very filling. We left with the desserts that we couldn’t finish, and I ordered a few tins of oolong watermelon loose tea as gifts. The tea prices are good if you’re used to purchasing loose leaf from places like Teavana. The breakfast tea was good too. Service was excellent!
We enjoyed high tea for Mothers day - May 12th, 2018. I found the sandwiches were a little lacking in both the filling and the freshness of the bread. The sweets were outstanding, each was better than the next. The tea, I chose Earl Grey, was wonderful. We were sat in a corner that was quieter that the rest of the room but I felt a little claustrophobic and it was quite warm in that corner. The service was spot on with the Manager coming often to see how we were doing, I liked this. Expensive at $ 200.00 including tip for 5 small sandwiches, sweets and tea. The ambience and service are worth it though. I'll cross this off my bucket list and was pleased but not overly impressed with this function.
We have been going to the Library Bar for many years and always a pleasant experience, with good service, great food and drink and a fun ambience. I highly recommend it.
Great atmosphere. Food is overpriced. Very bland. I had the lobster Shephard pie with a not so nice serving of shells. Very surprised about that in an upper scale restaurant. Service was pleasant.
Wasn’t aware children were included when I reserved. It was not identified as a family friendly venu and should have been. There were too few sandwiches for a lunch tea in my opinion: double the number and cut down on the number of sweets. The staff (aside from the check in area) seemed distant and uninterested, a far cry from my first encounter two years ago. My memories were positive and that is why I chose the Royal York to celebrate.
It was lovely and delicious! Just what you want your high tea to be! Really interesting choice of teas.
My problem was largely with the tea. The house uses a single brand that favours flavoured teas, something most adults don't really care for. I do not think my tea was steeped at a high enough temperature, and there was no way to remove the leaves, meaning the second was guaranteed to be bitter.
I don't really see a point to having a menu if you have no choices. Almost 3/4 of the food was dessert. I do not think it would be that difficult to split up the menu into different plates so people could order what they want (more or less), say two plates of sandwiches, one of dessert, et cetera.
It's a beautiful room and the staff was nice, but the food didn't quite match up to the price point.
Staff always very professional and welcoming.
Not sure if there is a heater problem or leaky windows there. This is the 2nd time I’ve been there within a month or two and both times we found the temperature to be cold. The Library Bar should be a warm cozy place for drinks and food...
We arrived about 15 mins early and was told that they would not seat us until our 2:45 time. When we were seated, it did take some time for our first plate to arrive and then our pastries later on. The down side was that close to 4pm we were notified that service was over and were rushed out. The food was okay-the sandwiches better than the sweets; service was also okay. Compared to other afternoon tea served at other locations, this was disappointing considering the cost.
The ambience was lovely and the room was cozy. It was a great afternoon with the girls!
Great service by Ada. Lovely atmosphere.
Too much fat on the roast beef in the roast beef sandwich. "Au jus" dip was really gravy. Sandwich would benefit from a true "au jus" dipping sauce.
The library bar is lovely, but I expected a better quality of food for the price of the holiday afternoon tea. We skipped a few items simply because they were just so dry and bad! We were served by a number of staff, some were absolutely wonderful and others seemed downright grumpy and rushed. Was definitely hoping for a better experience for the price - next time it's back to the King Edward.
My wife and I took afternoon tea in the Library Bar right before new years eve 2017. Ambient environment is superior, décor is very classic but service is about average. There is no alternative option for the afternoon tea as they only one option $60/per. My wife told the server that she was allergenic to sea food, but for some reason she still got a lobster sandwich. Sure my wife double checked and they made the exchange shortly. There was nothing wrong to the end but I have to give only 3 stars due to the omission of the service.
Dined here twice and had excellent service both times. We tried all different cocktails and they were very good. The second visit was a family outing downtown and we had light dinner. The prime rib sandwich and the lobster sandwich were delicious and the sides were just the right amount. Would definitely dine here again! The hotel is also spectacular to see especially during the Christmas season (great decoration and ambiance).
I am 74 years of age and have always had place for the Library Bar in my heart. Lots of great memories going way back. On December 12 I had an annual Christmas lunch with former associates. I ordered the prime rib (?) sandwich ($26). I couldn't get past the first few bites. It was full of gristle and chunks of fat. I didn't complain to the nice waitress. She wrapped it up
for me to take home. On examination at home, it was awful, the amount of gristle and fat couldn't have been a kitchen accident. My first LB complaint in 40+ years.
The high tea was OK, though I could have done with more sandwiches and less pastries. The service was not great-- brusque and borderline rude. Took an hour to get our order even though they had been previously advised of allergies and dietary restrictions. Then they tried to throw us out by 4pm despite serving us super late. Overall OK-wouldn't rush to do it again.
We were booked for afternoon tea at the Library Bar, Fairmont Royal York. The entire experience was extremely disappointing. Upon arrival, the server was surly, and seemed huffy as we were a bit late due to the Santa Claus Parade road closures. She didn't make us feel welcome or appreciated, but was very business like in her manner. On top of that the food and tea were extremely underwhelming. The sandwiches were dry and flavourless, the tea was just bland, and the pastries were no better than a coffee shop. In addition, the seating was quite uncomfortable. The only bright spot was the server who provided us with hot water, as she was smiling and gracious. Having had afternoon tea at the Savoy in London which is a Fairmont property, I would have expected a much better experience. I would not recommend afternoon tea at the Library Bar, Fairmont Royal York.
Fantastic afternoon tea, beautifully presented and the attention to detail was great. Afterwards we were brought on a guided tour of the hotel which was really special. We ll be back!
Enjoyed an afternoon tea with a great friend.
The sandwiches were tasty and sweets 👌🏻 Perfect!
This is our second time at the library at the Royal York hotel for high Tea and will be coming again ❤️
Fabulous food. Great value.
Loved the ambiance.
Attentive service but not intrusive.
I ordered the salad with tomatoes, arugula, bocconcino, etc. and added salmon. Although it was very tasty, I was disappointed with the portion of salad - it was way too little considering the cost. The salmon was tasty and a good size. There should have been a least double the amount of salad on my plate!
Very pleased and such a beautiful table I was given. Thank you to everyone there who made me feel at home.
The staff are extremely courteous and attentive and make you feel valued and welcomed.
Great atmosphere, everything I was hoping for, we had a great time!
Attended afternoon tea for my birthday. Followed by tour of rooftop gardens and bee apiary. Highly recommend the Ontario Icewine tea.
Really enjoyed the delicious mimosas, food, and the free tour of the rooftop beehives after.
Nice but initial service received from the hostess tinted my overall experience (so important to me as a diner). Our wait staff was excellent. The food and tea menu offered some nice choices. Not my favorite but would possibly do again in the future.
Beautiful room. Wonderful service. The food, though, was pretty but not as tasty as it could have been. I'd go again but it might not be my first choice.
I was expecting great things from this place. I realized that it would be expensive but that wasn't a problem as it was a special occasion. And I love the service associated with upscale bars such at the American Bar in the Savoy London.
Unfortunately the service was average at best. I had to wait for someone to take my order and then my neighbor finally got her attention when I was trying to ask why I hadn't been given nibbles.
It just didn't have that extra something that I was happy to pay for.
Excellent from start to finish. The only thing I'd change is the lighting...too low. Hard to read the menus.
Great roast beef sandwiches! Kid friendly. Terrific service.
Service was fast and friendly. Lunch food orders came up very quickly. Great place for a business lunch.
Good food and excellent service by our waitress. My only criticism was that the kitchen rushed out our main course when we had not finished our soup. As a result, our table was crowded with food which made it awkward to manage the dishes and I had to struggle with either letting my soup go cold or my main lunch going cold. As a result, service would have been a 5 solely based on our waitress, but this aspect brought the rating down.
