Library Bar - Fairmont Royal York
Was there for afternoon tea and found it a little bit noisy because of the number of large parties.
My go to. Centrally located. A bit pricey. Great service.
Quiet and nice. Good food attentive. Good location
As always this one of the best afternoon teas in Toronto. They just know how to create a lovely experience and the quality of the foods and teas is remarkable. The attention to detail and customer service is absolutely amazing. The experienced staff explain every item carefully and patiently answer all questions and give wonderful recommendations about the various teas. Highly recommend afternoon tea at this place!
Expensive but food is good and service is very good
I thought $23 for the Canadian Breakfast was way overpriced I ordered my eggs scrambled but they were 'drippy' not even scrambled enought to call them runny. Sure the presentation and service were nice and the room has a wonderful cozy atmosphere (save the drafty window we were seated at) but I felt value was lacking and i was sorely disappointed. I really think the meal was worth about half of what i paid and I would probablby not return.
Went for afternoon tea and have a lovely time. The decor was lovely and the snacks delectable.
Good food and service, but the pricing is too high.
The food was fine, but the prices are too high. The staff are friendly and do their job well. The temperature for the morning breakfast seating was freezing. I had my winter coat and my legs were still chilly. I let my 7 year old sit on my lap to stay warm.
We only seem to attend your wonderful restaurant on very special occasions which is because it is so truly special!! Why would go anywhere else??
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time here during Christmas Day. We ordered the charcuterie board and some wine. It was good but would have been better if they provided more crostini and cheese. I really love the salami, prosciutto and apricot jam! We wanted to try the High Tea at first but it wasn’t available during that day. We’ll definitely visit again for that!
We were initially at a window seat and it was chilly - we were moved to left of bar and it was cozy. Light overhead was very bright and (eventually) this was turned down. However it appeared to operate all lights in restaurant so other patrons had to use Iphone flash lites! Some rewiring required!!
Overall very enjoyable lunch - we will be back!
Christmas brunch and they were not ready to cook probably a quarter of the menu. Service was fine, the individual was pleasant and apologetic, but the room was cold and drafty and at the end of the day the food was over-priced for what you get.
Food was horrible and over priced. Waiter was unprofessional and made a scene when we told him about our disappointment. Went on Christmas Eve - expected much more from this restaurant and the hotel...
Christmas Tea with son and daughter-in-law. Lovely time. Staff worked extremely well together covering all requests quickly and with a smile.
Always a great meal and service at The Library Bar!
The Cobb salad was the worst I’ve ever had.
There's nothing negative that one could comment about this beautiful place... Great food, Great staff and the warmest welcoming place I know.... Thank you Marina for always wearing a beautiful smile and giving a warm greeting to everyone that drops by for lunch or a casul drink... Hugs to all of you XXOO Deb MacDonald
The Royal York is lovely and the atmosphere at the Library Bar was very nice however the experience did not meet expectations and value was not reflective of pricing.
From a service perspective, we received our tea right away and someone then did come to us to explain the service. Unfortunately we sat there for 45 minutes before receiving the sandwiches which was around the time everyone around us received their dessert tray.
We then felt rushed because the dessert came before we even finished our sandwiches and immediately thereafter we got a small piece of cake with a candle to celebrate my friends 50th birthday.
Tea was cold....it got warmed up once thru the entire experience and that was only at the end, about 20 minutes before we were to leave.
All in all, we were disappointed. I did not bring this up there as I did not want to upset my friends b-day. I am not one to complain however for the price, this experience came in well below expectation.
Yummy! Been here many times and always love the food.
Enjoy this restaurant. On this last visit it was quite noisy but usually the noise level is not too high and the setting is lovely. Food is always good.
The Library bar is one if my favourite spots! The service is professional and I always make a reservation to ensure I can get in.
Service was excellent! I had the crab cakes which were loaded full of crab and a side of fries - food was yummy and piping hot.
I’ve been to a few Fairmont High Tea’s - this was the worst. You felt rushed from the minute they seated you, would never stick around for questions once they showed you the menu. Didn’t explain any of the teas, after a while of trying to get their attention and asking their recommendation I got a quick “earl grey” answer. Why would I come to high tea to drink a generic tea? Sandwiches were hit and miss, nothing special about the sweets. Online the cost was $50, but on the menu it increased to $60.
I made a reservation for the afternoon tea for me and a girlfriend and asked for accommodation to our pescetarian/vegetarian diet. I was promised they would replace the sandwiches with meat to a unique vegetarian equivalent. When we came in, they had just doubled up on the vegetarian sandwiches (rather than making new ones), and that reduced the options quite a bit (went from 6 to 4 types of sandwiches), which was rather disappointing. Other than that, we enjoyed our time here. It was also nice that they brought a lighted candle with the cheesecake for the birthday celebration.
The food was good and nicely presented; however it was a bit overpriced for what you got. I was surprised that the online menu had said $50/person at the time I made my reservation, but then when we got there it was actually $60/person. (And for $60/person, it would have been nice if they gave us clean plates for our desserts, rather than making us use our dirty sandwich plates.)
It was a fun treat for a special occasion. The experience of dining in this historic hotel was enjoyable.
I was pleased overall other than the size and type of the table we were given, especially since I made the reservation a week in advance. I should have complained at the time.
The sandwiches nor the desserts were fresh. For the price there is better high tea to be had in the city for sure. The service was also quite bad, disorganized and absent.
Excellent as always. Hostess Marina does a wonderful job at making you feel welcome and our server Daniel was very accommodating and pleasant. I do not care for my food on a board and he gladly served me on a plate. My only constructive criticism would be to do away with the boards.
Great old school bar and restaurant. Reminiscent of 1970's Bay Street. Service is spectacular. Prime rib roast beef sandwich goes very well with a Bombay Sapphire Birdbath Martini. My "go-to" for my annual Christmas lunch with my best friend.
Lovely spot for a nice lunch. Diverse menu, cozy atmosphere and good service
Have been going there for years and always enjoyable. Unfortunately this time I had a medical incident and blacked out causing a panic among my luncheon companion, staff and other patrons. Staff were wonderful and an ambulance called and I was taken to emergency and in hospital for 2 days. Special kudos to Marina the hostess and Majid our server who were excellent in handling this emergency situation. Marina even called since to inquire as to my well being which is exemplary service. I will return and soon.
We wanted a pleasant lunch with good conversation with old friends. That is what we got... and the service was excellent. We will make this a regular event.
This place is a hidden gem. Quiet, excellent service, wonderful food and in an old library bar that provides an cozy and intimate ambiance. Love love love going to this place.
I would never order hot food as the kitchen is so far away it always arrives lukewarm at best. The cold salads good though.
The staff were patient with our clumsy luggage and unavoidable need to make cell phone calls.
The food and atmosphere were nice, but the service was slow and discourteous. My friend had a dietary request that the server got wrong. What I really didn't like is that they failed to collect the billfold for payment to deliberately 'up' their tip - we finally left because they were so slow collecting payment - and they ended up scoring a very generous/excessive tip. It felt like they did it intentionally. I really did not like that. While it may be a nice spot for a drink after work, I would not go back for a meal. I was less than impressed with the service.
Always a pleasurable visit and have been going there for years. The staff rember me and always make me feel very welcome. My only constructive criticism would be the wooden boards they serve the food on. I do not particularly find them attractive or sanitary. In fact they are messy and I much prefer my food on a plate. That's all.
