Out on patio it is wonderful, not noisy. We watched the sunset couldn’t have been a more beautiful view.

The hostess was lovely, but our waiter left a lot to be desired. We initially wanted to order a salad and a sandwich and share. Our point was to ask if we could get two different dressings, and he jumped in and said they won’t split it, but you can do want you want at the table. He then said there would be an extra charge for a second dressing. We were fine with that, but when he came back to take our order, we learned that the sandwich comes with a salad. That would have been helpful to know. He then told me I’d want the fries. I didn’t want the fries. He seemed very annoyed with us. If the menu or he had explained about the salad, we could have avoided this situation. Apparently they switch to a smaller menu at 2:00, and seemed very worried about getting the order in. If that is the case, why did you accept a 1:45 reservation? I went with the grain bowl which was fine, but not very exciting. The view was lovely, the hostess was lovely, but the rest was just fine. I don’t think I’ll return. It’s sad, as years ago I enjoyed many delicious meals at the Claremont. I guess times have changed.

Everything was top - notch. Very pleased we went, and would definitely return on our next visit to Berkeley. The only downside was that I thought the prices were too high.

I've lived in the East Bay for a loooong time and never visited the Claremont. We ate on the outside patio, looking out to San Francisco, on a beautiful summer evening. The view was spectacular (though bring a hat for the sun). The tables are well spaced, there's no loud music,, so it very easy to converse. The food and cocktails were terrific too, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Parking in the Claremont's lot is free with validation, and it's right next to the restaurant, so no worries about finding a space. The oysters on the half shell were excellent (mid-sized Atlantics) and the "sliders" (more like a French dip with shaved prime rib) are a must-have. But beware- this "appetizer" would make a good dinner for four, if you bought some sides to go with it. This is a great choice for a special occasion, or if you want to impress a visitor from outside the Bay Area.

The menu is limited. The sunset view on an evening without fog is beautiful. The noise level inside for conversation is very loud. We like to sit outside.
