This was a first date and the server was really “friendly”… however he made it extremely difficult to have a conversation with my date. I believe his name was Emmanuel or something similar / unique and had a man-bun. He explained the entire menu in way too much detail. He also argued with me PUSHING for me To order more and more food. It was a CONTINUOUS battle with him, and he was talking down to me like I was a child… which did not favor me on the date. Our 2 appetizers, our main dish each, plus sides was plenty for us to order - we ended up even taking home food… Yet he kept insisting on adding 2 more appetizers AND salads and more sides etc. All his recommendations were also the highest priced items on the menu.. it was obvious what he was trying to do (drive up the bill). I’d order an appetizer and he’d recommend getting 2 orders of it.. saying they’re “priced to order”. When I said one order is fine, he basically laughed at me saying I didn’t understand what priced to order meant. It was incredibly embarrassing and off putting - frankly it ruined the vibe of our date. He kept coming back repeatedly to refill water glasses that were 90% full, and asking what else we’d like to order.. Pushing it on us. It made my date feel extremely uncomfortable and I was about to go get the manager but was trying to just let it go. I’ve never had food pushed on me so much… this place was recommended to me by 2 people and while the food and ambience was amazing, I don’t think I could ever come back. I’ve never ever ever had an experience like this before and I’ve been to 100’s of nice restaurants.

Amazing experience. Mark was a great host and took excellent care of my guests. He was super knowledgeable about the menu and gave wonderful recommendations. Tim Love always hits it out of the park.

Absolutely delightful dining experience! We had the Stagecoach Margarita at the bar before dinner and WOW! Best marg ever (as it should be for the price but so worth it!). Food: most excellent. Service: outstanding! Faith was our well versed and attentive and most lovely server. (We were sure to let her manager know she’s a keeper!). More on the food: The duck rabbit rattlesnake fettine-delish and what a treat! Their little gem salad was a truly grand Texas version of a Caesar. I had the elk/foie gras sliders and would go tomorrow again -so perfectly done and tasty with blueberry compote. The diver scallops were perfectly prepared and the risotto with green chile was another outstanding TX take and delish! we will be back soon!!

Once again, we had our minds blown at Lonesome Dove! We had a show to attend so went in the early side. Our cocktails were creative and delicious! Each course from the hush puppies (hand delivered), chef’s salad special and the to-die-for LD Mac and cheese and best pork chop ever made this a perfect start to an even more perfect evening going to see Chris Stapleton at The Moody Center. The owner(?) came to our table and remembered us from when we were here two years ago! We will always return to Lonesome Dove when visiting Austin🩵

The complaint here is largely the food. The service was great! The food came out really quickly, so quickly in fact, that I suspect most of it was already fired and just shoved on a plate. The grilled bread that came with the bone marrow was cold, the crab was lukewarm and tasted soapy, the hush puppies were gluey and warm ish. The bone marrow was delicious, and the rabbit- rattlesnake sausage was fantastic, however. Overall the food was under seasoned, and a massive disappointment for the price point and would have been disappointing if it were a free sample at Costco. Would not recommend.

My husband and I did not enjoy ourselves last night as we dined at the Lonesome Dove. First of all we ordered an appetizer (Wild Boar ribs) and they were quite literally the size of our pinky fingers. I had the pork chops which were fairly dry, but a very large dinner portion. My husband’s steak meal was also pretty small and lacked flavor. Our waiter, Jeremiah, was very polite and professional but OMG he would not leave us alone. Every 2 seconds he was coming back to our table to ask us questions or pour us more water. I get that he was being attentive, but my husband and I felt like he was the 3rd person part of our private conversation- and to make it worse I was talking to my husband about breastfeeding and BOOM there was Jeremiah hovering over us. It was uncomfortable, but I know he was doing his job. But let your clients eat and talk in peace and privacy. Im happy to pour water into my glass from the water bottle if that means I can talk to my hubby about personal topics.

My apologies that you and your husband did not have an enjoyable 2nd anniversary. When it come to the food, we try to provide a unique experience by serving wild game. Our dishes are served and priced by the weight. Unfortunately, some game meats are more expensive than others. When it comes to the staff, I apologize for how much time Jeremiah spent at the table. We coach and teach to be there for the guest with attentive and engaging hospitality, however, the service should be invisible so that the guest doesn't realize that a server is there. Dining here was so fantastic! We ordered the dry aged bone in Tomahawk which was cooked and seasoned perfectly! We also ordered2 orders of the Hushpuppies because the first order was so delicious we wanted to experience it again. Literally the lightest hush puppy I’ve ever had. We also had the Rabbit-Rattlesnake Sausage which we just wanted to try and it was very tasty! The service was impeccable. Would definitely dine here again!

This is one place you need to absolutely checkout and enjoy. Whether you are coming into to Austin to visit or you are a resident looking for really good food, LD is worth every dollar. The environment is energetic, staff is very attentive and the food is rich in any flavor you crave! P.S. Don't forget to try out the spicy margs they offer or the famous lava cake!
