*Please note that tables will turn on busy evenings...
We hope to see you soon.
$100 seafood platter is not worth it in my opinion. Also after placing a call ahead of time to confirm, the menu and environment is not kid friendly. No booster chairs, and only thing on menu for a 2yr old to eat would be fries.
Food and service was very good. Poached halibut with vegetables was delicious. Quite dark in the restaurant. We sat by the bar. Overall good dinner.
Amazing experience! We were adventurous and ordered the 6 course chef’s tasting menu. We were not told what the chef would prepare in advance. Each dish was a surprise and cooked to perfection! We had a wonderful time and diners nearby watched in amazement as each of our beautiful courses arrived. Very memorable and fun evening. Highly recommend!
Everything was lovely. The roasted quail, lamb loin special and duck breast were exquisite. Will definitely come back!
Very FRESH and unique. delicious baked oysters, and creative scallop - corn puree soup. summer root vegetables wonderful. perfectly poached halibut. wonderful food - truly captures 'farm to table' french&canadian cuisine mix.
We were intrigued by the Quebecois farm to table style, and a picture of a wall decorated with slices of wood.
The halibut, served with almonds, mushrooms radishes and sprouts, was a revelation. The sauce of mustard maple and lemon simply blew my mind. A real feast for the senses.
Like many old buildings in Montreal, it is tricky to access, through a low door and down a steep stair. But the restaurant more than rewards the effort.
Too overpriced and the food wasn’t even good, or warm...
All was good - the food, people working and the ambiance was excellent. We were the last to leave and it was 30 minutes past their normal closing hours, and we never felt they were concerned with getting rid of us. They are a very nice team who own/run L'original. It's a great place to go.
All aspects for the entire evening were superior
Cant wait to return
My wife and I went to L'Orignal for our 35th wedding anniversary supper and we were not disappointed.
the meal and service was beyond terrific. an extremely talented chef with a clear vision of his food. great plate presentation and out of this world flavours.
do not miss a chance to experience this restaurant !!!!
The food was OK, but not exceptional. The place is dark and underground which is unfortunate on a sunny summer day.
Ordered bone marrow and was a joke. 2 bites, average flavor. Steak tenderloin was extremely average. Flavors are not matching price point. A very good meal, but nothing about this place has me anticipating a return.
This is our fourth time at L'Orignal. Every time is better than the one before it. The food is wonderful and the service is absolutely unmatched!
Excellent restaurant: excellent food and service. Not too loud. Perfect meal with colleagues.
What a wonderful place! The atmosphere was so perfect. The food was delicious and staff was friendless.
Definitely a place I want to eat again when I visit Montreal!
Thank you for the nice evening!
A wonderful restaurant with fantastic food and a gracious staff! Able to easily handle gluten intolerance! Wonderful bar and wine list! Not to be missed!
Fun place with lots of interesting décor. I had the walleye which was absolutely fabulous - my favorite fish! My husband had a delicious bison burger with their truffle poutine - wow! The restaurant was relatively quiet and on a Tuesday night, not crowded. But we were seated next to a large, somewhat noisy group - would have been better to sit elsewhere, though we did not complain or ask. Still, we thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant.
Dined with friends during a Montreal vacation. The food was excellent and the experience was unique. Loved the decor-sort of “North woods meets fine dining “ we had many wonderful meals in Montreal’s excellent restaurants, but this was a special experience.
Service was amazing, we are a gay couple and the host offered us to move to a more intimate setting when the table opened just after we sat, it’s refreshing when people don’t assume everyone is straight..Food was delicious, ambience top notch..highly recommend!
Friendly knowledgeable and attentive staff serving a healthy farm to table cuisine.
The food was great; interesting choices, well-prepared which given how slow service had been she decided to eat it anyway rather than wait for it to be switched to what she actually had ordered. So, if you have the time, you can get a very good meal here at a reasonable price, but plan on some bumps in the road with respect to the service.
Our family of four had an excellent experience. The service was attentive and very friendly and the recommendations did not disappoint. Portion size was just right with everything being very fresh and each item in the dish was very complimentary to the overall taste of each bite. I love the vibe of this restaurant, and each time we make a visit to Montreal we make every effort to dine in this very charming establishment. Thank you for such a lovely and enjoyable meal and atmosphere!
I was disappointed that the menu was changed. There is no tartar dishes anymore. less vegetarian options.
The menu in the restaurant did not include some of the meals listed on the website, particularly some of the game dishes which is the attraction of the restaurant. The desserts were outstanding.
Run to this restaurant on a Saturday around 8 it was full but they found us a table. Not inexpensive but flavors jump out. Worth every penny. Service is top notch our waitresses were very attentive and friendly. Tasting menu amazing!!Wine pairing is excellent. Presentations are at the next level . Can't wait to return. There are nice to have and must haves in the restaurant world, this is in the must category. Don't be in a hurry. Enjoy the experience. We were there late and it was awesome !!
$30 for a hamburger and fries
Charming restaurant tucked away in Old Montreal. Rustic, cozy and romantic atmosphere. Service was great and the menu options were reviewed in detail. The oysters we had for an appetizer were stellar as were the two main courses - short ribs and the freshest salmon ever. We will surely be back on our next visit to Montreal.
Do not recommend the pre fix. Presentation was horrible especially the dessert which was slop on a plate.
Excellent food, excellent service and dynamite music..Wonderful small and intimate restaurant on a side street in Old Montreal. It will be a regular stop whenever we are in the area.
Romantic, intimate, interesting menu, great meringue & raspberry dessert!
There isn't anything we wouldn't order again! In fact, we tried to go back on Sunday but they were closed. This intimate setting made for a comfortable experience with exceptional food and welcoming, warm service. They smoke their salmon in-house, which pretty much melted in the mouth. The dinners were great, with equal attention paid to the meats as well as the accompanying vegetables. And dessert was a great finish. I wouldn't hesitate this to anyone who wants an enjoyable night out of memorable food.
Great service and ambience. Sticky toffee pudding dessert was delicious
Nice place to share a great lunch or diner. There are only a few tables, preserving the calmness of the room. Great !
Delightful meal. Food and service both.
Friendly staff, wonderful food. We had the schnitzel and the bison burger, two of their classic dishes. The rhubarb compote with choux, creme anglais, and pistachios was delicious.
Seafood flatter was very good. Lobster crab and oysters.
The appetizers and main dishes are very good, maybe the dessert is possible to skip but everything else is great. Nice local ambience with a good house beer.
Lovely bunch of guys working there, they made the night for us. Food was excellent too. Highly recommended.
Upon arriving at L'Orignal, it has a quaint, cozy and welcoming atmosphere. I thought, this is going to be a great restaurant. Our server was pleasant and friendly. We were in a group of 5 people. The prices are rated as $$$ so you expect the food to be good. My husband got the bison burger and they had suggested to him and he agreed it should be med/rare. It came well done. Our oysters were good, but pricey. I had the scallop and shrimp special and it wsa great, but a very small portion for the price. A man would have wanted at least double the size to be satisfied with the price. The other couple we were with had no luck. They ordered the bone marrow appetizer and there was nothing to scrape out. They had to complain and then we all had to sit and wait at the end of our meal while the kitchen made him a better one. We all would have preferred they just take it off the bill, and we could have been on our way. If they are going to charge these prices they need to step up the quality of the food. In Old Montreal they are surrounded by so many better restaurants.
