We did not know what to expect having booked this so last minute. Superbly thrilled. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Space was casual but not a dive at all. Food and wine was fantastic. Highly recommend.

A very good French Bistro experience. Very loud and lively. Obviously a neighborhood favorite. Looked like lots of regulars. Food was very typical of a French bistro. Good wine list and service was friendly and professional.

Wonderful food and ambience, don't miss if you're in Quebec City!! I was delightfully surprised given some of these reviews, but they were wrong. The food is terrific and so is the staff! And you can't beat the location. The lovely outside dining is perfect too on a warm evening.

Service and ambience was first rate! Unfortunately, only one third of the choices on the menu was available. We were limited to three choices. This was a bit strange for a Saturday night in September, but perhaps a boat tour had been through earlier. Fortunately, we are easy going and just chose from the remaining three items. The food was very good.

Couldn’t be better, our server was excellent, attentive and engaged. Food was super, dessert enjoyed around the table and great pours from the bar. We liked it.

A charming experience with good food for breakfast and lunch. Best to make reservations, is busy and also serves the hotel above. Good location for walking to other sights in Quebec City.

Our fish and chips and salmon tartare both had quality ingredients and skilled execution. The wine list by the glass was interesting, including my husband’s Aligote and my Fremantle de Bourgogne. Friendly and skilled service. Thanks!

Louise Tabern is in a lovely stone building with a lively bar. We were optimistic about dinner. After reading in reviews that the artichoke hummus app was good, we went with it. There were 4 small pieces of pita already soggy from sitting in a pool of oily mash of artichoke pieces and hummus. Pass. My partner ordered a burger and told it had to to be medium cooked rather than med rare due to Quebec regulations, but he’d tell the chef to go on the rarer side. That didn’t happen and so the burger was dry. I ordered the fish of the day… halibut on mashed cauliflower. The latter were large chunks of the vegetable and I couldn’t eat it. It was impossible to determine the sauce ingredients. I would definitely pass on this place and try a lovely bistro called Echaud not far from it if you want a good meal.

Overall, we had a lovely experience dining at Louise Taverne. We were able to sit outside on a lovely night in Quebec, which was perfect. The service was decent. The cocktail menu provided many interesting options, including our favorite the Paper Plane. One downside was the vegetarian option, which lacked the composition of a complete meal. The lamb and halibut were very good, with complex flavors and components. We would recommend Louise Taverne to friends traveling to Quebec City.

The ambiance and location here are wonderful. The hummus was a very good appetizer. Recommend the burger and fries. We ordered a variety of dishes, and everyone thought the burger was, surprisingly, the best.

We stumbled upon ouise Taverne while looking for a less-tourist-ridden spot in Old Quebec on our recent visit -- and we enjoyed it so much we canceled our dinner reservations and mad reservations to come back! Its excellence was made clear by the fact that -- even at 8:30pm on a Thursday night in late July -- it was packed with locals. The staff we encountered all spoke excellent English (but were nonetheless indulgent of our attempts at French). The wine list was also good and included some interesting local options. Would absolutely, positively recommend!

This was probably the best meal we had while visiting Quebec--fantastic food and drinks, great service, and a warm, unique atmosphere. Perfect for a date night! I highly recommend the artichokes & hummus appetizer.

Service was inattentive and it took over an hour to receive our mains. It does ruin the dining experience when you are constantly looking around for your server and wondering when your food will arrive. Our experience in QC was that service was lackluster generally. But, the food was excellent here. They need to do a better job with air conditioning during a heat wave. It was very hot in the restaurant. If it’s a cool day and you are patient, you will have a delicious meal here.

Some of the food was great like the bone marrow appetizer and the hamburger. However, there were some real misses like chunks of fat on the lamb and the overcooked creme brulee. The waitress was also absentee for much of the meal. The experience did not live up to expectations.

We had a nice table, plenty of time to wait (but did not wait too long). Food was not as great as pre-COVID. A lot of QC restaurants cut their menu in half due to Food Costs and cut in staff. I had a great time with good company but if I were alone, I’d bring a book.

It was a very expensive meal for a very bad food. Shocking!! 279$ for a basic meal. Fish and chips! And a few other dishes. Worst fish and chips of my life. Frozen fries. The next night I did proper research and found Chez Boulay And incredible restaurant. On Micheline guide and it was 170-$ however we had no wine. The food was simply amazing.

The front desk clerk couldn't find my reservation and told me that the restaurant didn't do business with Open Table for reservations... You read that right. Yes sir. When paying the bill, the restaurant therefore refused the Open Table dining check reward. For the rest, very ordinary restaurant, correct food without more. The resto's website is outdated, which includes an outdated menu. The dish I wanted and the wine I wanted (website menu) were not available. The waiter didn't seem to care. Very ordinary lunch service, not proactive for two cents. Like: I have to serve you because you're there... In short, 1 out of 5 as a rating is even generous on my part. Go your way ! L'employé à l'accueil n'a pas trouvé ma réservation et il m'a dit que le restaurant ne faisait pas affaires avec Open Table pour les réservations... Vous avez bien lu. Lors du paiement de la facture, le restaurant a donc refusé le dining cheque reward Open Table. Pour le reste, resto très ordinaire, nourriture correcte sans plus. Le site web du resto n'est pas à jour, ce qui inclut un menu pas à jour. Le plat que je désirais et le vin que je voulais (menu du site web) n'étaient pas disponibles. Le serveur avait l'air de s'en foutre éperdument. Service le midi très ordinaire, pas proactif pour deux sous. Du genre: je suis obligé de vous servir puique vous êtes là... Bref, 1 sur 5 comme note est même généreux de ma part. Passez votre chemin !

Some mix-up in the kitchen meant that our food took a really long time to arrive - which was problematic as we were dining with a toddler. Food was ok but not as exceptional as I'd expected from the reviews: a burger was quite overdone, side salads a little bland and wilted. The space is warm and charming.

As soon as we entered Louise Taverne, and were greeted by the charming (and funny )host, we knew we'd found a great place. We sat at the bar, ordered cocktails and beer, fish and chips, boudin noir and boudins blanc, and were tres content. Highly recommended.
