Within a beautiful Subiaco heritage building, a new neighbourhood wine bar has entered the scene on Hay Street. In the 1920s, the building was home to a provisions merchant owned by husband and wife Emily and Charles Lums. Their shop, EA Lums & Co, was a place for locals to grab quality ingredients from a family-owned shop.

With the appointment of Nick Young as Head Chef, Lums offers a brand new, vino-friendly food offering.

Nick’s resume boasts a wonderful mix of fine dining and funky neighbourhood eateries including Wildflower, Must, Bivouac and Lallah Rookh. With extensive time spent working in rural luxury resorts and Margaret River wineries, Nick brings a passion for fresh, local produce, heirloom varieties, preserving and fermentation.

    Incredible food, lovely atmosphere & a great wine selection. Perfect place for a work lunch or afternoon / evening drinks with friends. The staff are also really friendly & helpful.

    We came here for a small work Christmas party, and couldn't have been happier. We did the 3 course fiesta, and the staff and chef were so accomodating for a few small dietary requirements. On top of that, the food and wine was as always outstanding, and the service went above and beyond. We'll be back again and again!

    A really good choice for our evening out. Being a Friday it was very busy but the staff were great. Would have liked a bit longer at the table but we weren’t hassled to move and knew there were others waiting to sample the delights of Lums.

    Wouldn’t book the back courtyard ever again. Literally had staff pushing past us with garbage bags and vapes all night whilst we tried to eat our meal. Pretty much a couple of picnic tables next to the toilets. Then we were told they’d ran out of plates, so we needed to eat off of serviettes which blew my mind!

    Great food, a shame the service could not keep up with the kitchen. Bar staff seemed more interested in flirting with one another than serving customers. After pouring the wine the bartender almost forgot which wine was in each glass. We tried to order 2 bottles of wine but of course the 2 we picked were no longer available... why not remove it from the menu? Not ideal being a wine bar and not having many of the wines...

    Maybe consider the size of share plates in relation to the size of the tables. 3 or more share plates don’t fit on a table for 2 people. Not having table service was strange considering it felt like a restaurant , having to go to the bar to order wasn’t reflected in the prices.

    I always loved this bar. Yesterday, Saturday, 19.08. we caught up for the first time with our friends after having our little baby and brought our baby with us. We picked a time that is less busy during the day for a quick catch up and picked a time where our baby normally sleeps plus an outdoor space. In my booking I added into thebnotes that we'll have a pram and baby with us. Our baby didn't cry during our visit but made regular baby sounds from now and than which didn't seem to bother anyone. We even got comments from other people saying how good she is. The waiter was extremely rude and when my partner went to get a drink inside the waiter just got back from cleaning up our table and said to his workmate "babies are the worst". It hurt our feelings hearing that and we don't feel comfortable going back there. Real ashame that people are so ignorant and unkind... don't go there if you have a baby.

    No one welcomed us or acknowledge at the main entrance and table. Made a reservation and table wasn’t set, and it had only one chair. Never received a menu. Food was average/poor and the few wines we tried to pick were not available. Honestly felt like we spent a date night in a pub.

    A perfect day to sit outside at Lum's and enjoy some food and wine. We enjoyed the gnocchi and octopus and both dishes were yum. Our waiter was super friendly and helpful. Definitely going back.

    Generally enjoyed our time at Lums. Wish we’d known it was order at the bar for food and drinks prior. Not our preference. Food was nice as was the wine. Wish you success in the future.

    Rude staff on arrival, mains took 2.5 hours to come out and they were cold, desert was different to what was on the set menu. Overall experience was expensive , long and not good. Would not recommend.

    So delicious. Beautifully cooked food with interesting flavours, a great wine list, and a nice vibe. All ordering is done from the bar, so the service is a bit backed off, but this really doesn't make any difference - the quality of our meals was exceptionally good.
